FYI, I contacted Ace Auto to see about buying my vehicle that was deemed a total loss, and was informed they only buy Japanese makes.

Ace Auto Wrecking is an outfit that I worked with to junk my VW Rabbit after it was totaled in an accident. It was stress-​free, post-​accident, in how they towed the vehicle at no cost to me, and handled the paperwork to get it off my hands. Insurance took care of the rest of the process.
And now they also helping me determine if it is worthwhile for me to «junk» my 1988 BMW 528e or salvage the vehicle by securing parts from possible inventory available, and I am getting very helpful input into this process.

The alternatives presented to me are weighing out the options of whether I should attempt to replace my transmission and drive-​shaft (dependent upon available replacement equipment and the going-​rate for labor — or if it is more beneficial to scrap the whole car. I“ll be making a decision based on what I hear back from hear and other options available.

I don’t expect service this good from almost any place, much less a salvage yard! Honestly, some of the best and most thorough service I’ve gotten anywhere and still had a great price.
I found Ace on
where they had the part I needed at the lowest price. When I called, they were quick to find what I requested and spoke clearly (an unexpected plus for a salvage yard) to tell me the details I needed to know. Then, they emailed me a set of pictures of the actual part before I called back with my payment information. This was followed by an email scan of the receipt, picture of the invoice and picture of the UPS tracking number. Also, the young woman on the phone informed me how I could save money on the shipping while still getting the part in the same amount of time. After the part arrived and I had installed it, I even got a follow-​up email making sure that everything had gone as expected. This level of service blew my socks off!
