I tried this place based on the Unilocal reviews and I had a great experience. I got an oil change on my boyfriend’s 2007 Corolla and the total was $ 26.
I had looked around for the cheapest oil change at first, assuming that all oil changes would be the same, but was l was lead to places with $ 10 oil changes whose reviewers mentioned technicians leaving caps off or breaking things… So I found A-​1 and thought it was every bit as reputable and reliable as the reviews made it seem. I was helped quickly, and the owner was great. He was even telling the customer in front of me what he could do at home himself next time to save money.
I also asked him about bringing in my 2015 Forester for service here instead of at the dealership — he said he had the Subaru oil and could do it all. When I told him everything that I needed changed at my last service appointments, he mentioned that they probably didn’t need to change my cabin air filter as often as they were and that he would show me how mine looked every time and let me decide for myself. I appreciated the honesty.
There’s a small waiting area, nothing fancy, and the building is located next to Pancake Circus.

Whenever I have any issues with my car or before a long drive — I come in to ask Ron for advice. He is one of the best people to work with in Sacramento. He is knowledgeable about his trade. He so kindly always helps me fill my tire pressure and let’s me know if there is anything wrong with my tires. He has also recommended me to local places within my price budget in Sacramento when I have had tire troubles. I trust him completely with my car and it is so refreshing to have a friendly encounter with someone so genuine and warm when you have car troubles.

Huge nail in my tire coming home through downtown. Called and they got me right in. Very friendly and fast.

Ron is always nice and honest. He will tell me what repairs and maintenance is critical and which ones I can put off. My girlfriend had always been nervous to go to a mechanic by herself, but she knows A-​1 is a good place to do business. Save yourself the trouble of looking around and just go to Ron – your wallet and piece of mind will thank you.

Ron is by far the best to work with, I dropped my car off at about 1:00pm, thinking it was going to be a big issue, but 2 hours later and $ 49 out the door the issue was fixed, so far his shop is the best auto body shop I’ve been to since I’ve had my car!!! I will deff be going back if I ever have any more issues

Took my car in for an oil change and tire rotation today. Service was excellent, friendly and fast, and the price was terrific. As the daughter of an independent auto repair shop owner, I prefer to patronize this type of business. And I hit the jackpot with the good folks at A-​1!

I take my car into A1 whenever anything goes wrong from needed oil changes to anything else. Ron (owner) is very friendly, very honest and very fair. I usually drop it off, go across to Pancake Circus and wait for Ron’s call. I will never go to anyone besides A1!

Ron is a very professional and knowledgeable mechanic. I walked in the door on a Friday afternoon at 4pm after breaking down on the freeway. I asked Ron to please replace my alternator and he looked at the clock and all the work he already had to do before leaving the shop for the evening and he said no he wasn’t able to. I informed him that I had to get back home to the Bay Area. He agreed to do the work, but said it would take until 6pm. He replaced the alternator and battery and I was on the road by 6:10pm. I really appreciate his willingness to help me. I highly recommend his work to others. Thank you so much Ron!

I have had fair to poor experience with the chain repair and oil change places. I do like supporting local businesses when I can, and this place is very convenient to my residence.
What I like:
I can book an appointment online.
Prices are competitive.
Ron seems friendly, decent and honest. He doesn’t try to add on things I probably don’t need (unlike the chains).
By the way, this place is right next door to T-​1 Automotive. I know nothing about them.

Took my 99 Subaru Outback Limited here to replace the passenger side wheel bearing. I called around to various mechanics and A-​1 was among the cheapest, and was by far the friendliest over the phone so I decided to give them a shot. Ron, the owner, was extremely friendly and took my car the same day.
I was not sure if I needed just a bearing, or the hub as well so Ron said «No worries, I’ll just order both parts and if it turns out we don’t need the hub, I’ll just return it, no problem.“I just purchased the car two weeks ago knowing that it would need some work put into it, but definitely underestimated the amount of rust damage to many of it’s components. Ron immediately contacted me to let me know that the hub was so badly rusted that I would need to replace the entire knuckle, of which he found a used replacement part, and said he would not charge me for any additional labor. (Are you serious? Awesome!!) He kept me updated and informed throughout the whole process, and made sure to check with me before attempting anything that might cost me more money than I was prepared to spend.
He also let me know that my front rotors are completely warped, and that I will need to get them replaced soon if I want to keep driving the car. I already knew this, but it was good that he confirmed it. Also, when he test drove it he suspected a hole in the muffler based on how noisy it was. Again, thank you for letting me know!
After all of that, he went ahead and pulled the codes from my check engine light, free of charge, let me copy them down, as well as gave me a very rough estimate of what problems (based on common Subaru issues) might be throwing those codes,
My car no longer makes a horrifying wheel noise when I drive it, I have some ideas of what i need to do next, and I have no doubt that I’ll be coming back to see Ron. Given all of the extra work that needed to be done and new parts that needed to be ordered, I STILL walked out paying less than some shops had quoted me for JUST the bearing. All the while, I was treated with respect, and with a smile.

Last chance last call!
Told him our problem, come in to our shop and we fix it. I was thinking dang he’s going to trap us and charge extra fee.
Arrive at the shop, quick diagnostic and immediately knew the problem. $ 85 an hour, not too bad and no choice
4 ½ hours later I get the call that’s it done. He not only tells me all the problems he fixed and showed me the area that had to be fixed but called me throughout the 4 hours to keep me updated. I get the bill and was stunned to see he was honest with his labor, 1 hour. Honest and great people is hard to find.
I will come back!

Took my car in for a diagnostic this morning and was not charged! My car has been making a droning noise when accelerating and drives bumpy/​clunky, so I have been meaning to get it checked out. My husband kindly researched places in the area open on Saturdays, and he found and selected A-​1. The service we received was friendly and helpful. When we got the call that they had driven it and checked out what could be causing the issues we brought to their attention, they didn’t experience what we had described. So we took them out on a test ride on the freeway, and while they made suggestions of what it could be, they were hesitant to do any work and suggested we wait to see if it worsens/​gets louder so it would be easier to pinpoint and less guessing, and also less $ to spend trying to fix it. We appreciated the advice, that they checked it out, and that they didn’t charge us for the diagnostic. We will definitely return in the future!

So I live in the neighborhood and have been coming here for years. They are great for all kinds of services. I regularly get my oil changed here as well as tune ups and brakes. They are the best repair shop in the area and prices are very fair. I strongly recommend anyone looking for services on common vehicles to use a1.

Best price for AC around. $ 50 for inspection and would’ve been total of $ 79 to top off refrigerant but turns out I had too much. Ron is an awesome owner and not out to scam anyone. Tons of coupons and deals through email too.
