Whenever I’m in Sacaton and need a good cup of Joe, I travel the extra mile for a cup of Kowee coffee. They hang in here tough, brewing Americano and vacuum thermos style beverages. Two of my three recent dark roast cups have been supplemented with a carrot-bran muffin. I shoot for the lowest glycemic index food I can find locally, these particular Kowee muffins are pretty good in the G-Index department. I look forward to the day people realize one of the finest low-glycemic, no-gluten, protein and sweetness laden foods on planet earth, once a staff of life for the O’odham people, now falls to earth, generally unused by humans, food for insects squirrels and coyotes. Embrace the mighty mesquite bean once again, toast it, grind it into flour, put some in my Kowee muffins! Smoothies abound here too, but I’ve yet to try one. The premises are beautiful, decoration contemporary Akimel O’odham/Pee-Posh motifs. There are several tables, a TV in the corner for keeping up with the world, and a nice little table with sugar, spice and everything nice for putting the final personal touches on a Kowee cup. In the area? Stop by Kowee for a cup of joe. It’s a fine place for informal meeting too.
