Specialties

Heifer Farm is one of three learning centers operated by Heifer International. Heifer International, a non-profit organization, was founded on the simple belief that ending hunger begins with giving people the means to feed themselves.

Heifer’s Learning Centers provide interactive, hands-on education that challenges and engages people to end hunger and poverty and care for the earth. We offer school or church field trips, multi-day or overnight educational programs for youth and adults as well as week long day camps during school breaks. Annual events like the Global Harvest Festival or Living Gifts Market are open to the public. Heifer Farm is open to the public 7 days a week for groups of 10 or less. Larger groups are asked to call to reserve a tour or program. Come learn more about Heifer International and explore our beautiful working farm and unique global village sites.

History

Established in 1984.

Most of this 270-acre property was donted to Heifer International in 1984 by the Williams family of Rutland, MA. The farm originally served as a livestock holding and shipping center from which animals were sent to communities around the world. Animals given to Heifer’s project families and partners are now purchased in the countries in which they are used. This reduces costs, utilizes animals best adapted to the environment, and contributes to the local economies. The farm now serves as an educational center to inform the more than 20,000 annual visitors about Heifer’s work around the world and our development model through field trips, overnight programming, day camps, and special public events for all ages.
