Ames Barber Shop

Being from out of town, I wasn’t sure about going to a different barber other than my own. Coming here truly brightened my day. Having a little OCD as I am, they were quick to comfort me and prove that their attention to detail was second to none. Highly recommended!

I’m a recent transplant to E. Rutherford, and I was starting to look a little shaggy. I’ve tried one other shop in town a few months back, and it was good, but I wanted to try someplace new. The 5 star reviews here on Unilocal drew me to Ames.
First impression, the shop is great. Very clean, bright, well organized. Not cluttered, plenty of room. Tastefully decorated, no loud or obnoxious music. I was the only customer — at noon on Tuesday (all I wanna do… is have some fun…)
As many of the other reviews mentioned, this is a mother daughter team. I got the daughter, as mom was chatting with a friend. It was a quiet day. I’m not sure where the mom is from, but listening to her brought me back to my days travelling all over. After listening to her for 20 minutes, I’m guessing Romania?
The haircut was great. The daughter really knows her stuff. Some scissor work, but a lot of clippers, and it came out really nice. Great attention to detail. I feel like a new man. Daughter wasn’t very chatty, but that’s OK, I’m not into barber shop talk, I’d rather get a great cut.
Price was a little bit more than I’m used to paying at a barber shop ($ 20, +tip), but given the size of the space, the fact that we’re in NJ, and the quality of the cut, totally worth it.
All in all, a 5 star experience!

Isabella gave me an excellent haircut that perfectly matches my style. She was extremely professional throughout and spent a large amount of time on making sure my haircut was perfect. The shop is very clean and modern. I was very impressed overall!

By far the best barber shop in town. This is a mother-​daughter operation and they take customer service very seriously. They are both always welcoming and extremely polite. Not to mention I had THE BEST hair cut I’ve ever had here! Highly recommend, would give 5+ stars if I could.

I don’t write reviews often but after today’s cut I thought I should give some credit where it’s certainly due. I just moved to Rutherford and needed to find a new spot. Unfortunately left my favorite Italian barber back at home, but I have to say I think I’ve actually found someone better.
Adrianna does an amazing job. She is personable, talkative, and she really cares about making you happy (assuming you’re not a rude douche). I appreciate how she is detail-​oriented and treats the haircut like an artist would treat their masterpiece.
I will definitely return to get the same level of service and attention, and to hear some great stories. I’ve yet to meet her daughter but I’m sure she is just as talented. Looking forward to my next visit.

I have finally found THE barbershop. Both Adrianna and her daughter, Isabella, are experts in this art. On top of that they are fun and professional. They will remember your name and haircut, and have many interesting stories to tell.
Every time I go, I’m sure to take a business card or two to handout to friends and family. They are extremely well. $ 17 – 19 without tip will get you a men’s cut and style. I have paid almost ten times this amount for a haircut (I am embarrassed to say that) but I have never had a better cut than at Ames.

Moved here a few months ago and needed a place to get a haircut — Adraiana does a great job — does fades, trims etc. — Great price, great person to talk to, has a great personality — good place to get a hair cut.

My son has been going there since he was a young boy, he has tried other shops but always goes back to Ames Barber Shop, they never disappoint, give a great cut and it is so clean in there! BTW he is 21 now and has moved around a lot and still goes back!

I went here for my first time today. I have just moved into the neighborhood, and I did not know where to go for a haircut, so I relied on Unilocal to help me out. I couldn’t be more pleased with the way that Adriana had cut my hair. Not only does Adriana give a great hair cut, she is also a very wonderful person to gossip with. I thoroughly enjoyed my first experience at Ames and will be sure to become a regular.

Adrianna is awesome! Very attentive, caring, and genuinely wants you to leave looking like a million bucks. And at $ 18, not too shabby.

Staff is very friendly and fast, easy to make an appointment. Unfortunately the younger stylist butchered my hair the one time I went there. If you care about your hair I would avoid this place.

Hubby comes here quite a bit. Brought the teenager and daughter did his cut.
Fast efficient. Great ladies.

Finally found a barber shop in NJ I’ll be going back to. After living in NYC and going to the same guy for 15 years, I’ve never found the right place in NJ. I spent a year in Hoboken and had good luck at Hoboken Hair, but since moving to Bergen County I’ve only found either overpriced salons or guido/​thug shops. Some of these guys do a great job, but for my career I needed something more professional. I looked up Ames online, liked the reviews and went on over. Isabella took care of me and did a great job. Very clean space, and very nice, friendly staff. I’ll be coming back here for sure.

I have been going to Ames Barber Shop for about over 3 years. I always go straight to Isabela. I found her through a friend reference and haven’t gone anywhere else since. She is amazing! She suggested a new haircut over 3 years ago that every single person in my life loved. I wanted a change, so I asked about new style last week. She said no problem, it’ll be beautiful! I put all my trust in her hands. Since Thursday last week, my coworkers, family, friends have been telling me over and over how much the new hair suits me.
Do yourself a favor and book an appointment with isabela at Ames Barber Shop !! You won’t be sorry :)

I’ve been coming to this barber shop for many years. I love the way they treat me as a customer and friend. Isabela is my favorite one. Not only she’s the best but also she can talk about anything!!!

New address, new shop. 55 Park Ave on the main drag in Rutherford. My favorite barbershop in town. So nice to see they were able to re-​open after the old 8 Ames Street spot burned down.
The ladies are terrific: Adriana and her daughter work together. I prefer Adriana who does a terrific job in trimming and shaping my beard very close. Don’t know why so many barbers around here find that so hard to do… I tried ‘em all. Most were too expensive and they were a little rough on the neck with the trimmer. Attention to detail, old-​school warm cloth on the face, all good. Highly recommended.
(By the way I think the 1-​star review is for the wrong shop – in my experience they have never had a male barber.)
