History

Established in 2011.

At age 14 my son Nicholas wanted to open an ice cream parlor to replace the long time Big Moo in town that closed. Colby’s opened in spring of 2011 offering the local favorites Hershey’s ice cream and Upstate Farms soft custard. For 29 years Colby’s has catered over 650,000 happy customers Pig Roasts and BBQ Catering. Over the years we have add your barbecue along with hots, hamburgers and specialty sandwiches to the store menu. Colby’s offers a great view of the countryside from our air conditioned dining room and outdoor decks. Colby’s has a large variety of fresh baked including cookies, pies, brownies cannolis, eclairs and other tasty treats from our bakery. We stopped in here on our way to pick up our CSA in Honeoye Falls. Cute, off the side of the road, plenty of parking, and nice staff. This is your generic «go and pick out your ice-​cream flavors from the bins on display» place. Pretty average, with pretty average prices.

Dropped in and got a kiddie Roadrunner Raspberry. It was a good size and was very tasty, but nothing out of this world. There was one server attending all of us who didn’t look very happy. Granted she was alone and had 6 customers to attend to, so I’m not torn up about her lack of enthusiasm. I want to come back for all the non ice cream items. Their baked goods and fudge looked quite appetizing. Also, they have a large menu offering main course meals and appetizers I’d love to try. If I’m ever in the area, I’ll be sure to give it another try.

Very disappointed with the service. We had to wait for over an hour for food that is just simply reheated and half our orders came to us cold. No apologies… just a it will be ready in 5 minutes. The staff is very young and clearly poorly trained in customer service. I won’t be visiting again.

A great alternative to local chain ice cream shops. Recently they got Hershey hard ice cream, and they use Upstate Farm soft ice team. If you have a friend or family member that has a dairy allergy, there are no options to supplement currently. On to the downside — they say they brew Finger Lakes Coffee, but everyone time I’ve came, they are «sold out». New management could really improve the customer service levels (a lack of direction for servers) and the proficiency in using the cash register (never accurate). Overall a nice atmosphere!

Move over Dinosaur and Sticky Lips, Rochester now has 3 options for BBQ!!! I happen to stumble upon this place and was surely impressed. A mix of food I’ve never seen all together before, BBQ as the main attraction, but also ice cream, and a bakery!?!
Located in Rush, you can easily miss it, but just look for the barn-​like structure. Apparently Colby’s as been a BBQ catering joint for over 2 decades, that unfortunately I was never invited to a party that had it. They have either pulled pork, pulled chicken and ends as options. I was lucky enough to stag the lunch special of a pulled pork sandwich and 2 sides for $ 4.99! What a great deal that was, and after referring to the site, it might be offered daily.
What I found it strange that the pulled pork was naked, and not dressed in any sauce. They had sauces in side cups, with options of boss sauce, franks hot sauce, and a kraft BBQ sauce. I find it unheard of that a BBQ place that has been around over 20 years doesn’t have it’s line of sauces. I tried it with no sauce which wasn’t all that great, after dressing it with kraft it was quite tasty. My sides were fruit salad, apple crisp and also happy that corn bread was apart of my meal. Corn bread was moist, and the girl behind the counter let me in on their secret, apple sauce! Fresh fruit is always a extra brownie points in my book. The apple crisp wasn’t hot, but cold, yet still good.
Didn’t try the ice cream, however they seemed to have a lot of options between 32 flavors of Hershey’s. What impressed me more was the bakery items that were brought over fresh from Leo’s Bakery in East Rochester! I’ve heard good things about Leo’s and all of the items looked really good.
I definitely plan on returning to get me some more pulled pork.
