This is a great neighborhood bar and casual restaurant in Rumson. While it is a «local» place, the staff and customers there are always welcoming and friendly. The food is always good(thin crust pizzas are great) and reasonably priced. Being new to the area, I expect that this will soon be my «local» go-to place. Great job to all.

This was our first time dining here. I would not go back. The pizza was not good and had no flavor. Our French fries came out brown and tasted like dirty oil. We got home and all of us did not feel well. I would not recommend.

Val’s is my favorite place to be. I love the atmosphere here as it is staffed by very friendly people and it seems that most people that go there are regulars who will strike up a friendly conversation if you happen to sit next to them at the bar. From the owners to the wait staff to the people who regularly go here, nobody is shy and they all make you feel more than welcome to be there. They make some really great pizza here. My personal favorite is the Buffalo Chicken Pizza, but every once in a while I try something new like the Fra Diavolo pizza, the White pizza, Reuben pizza(which I think they make special on St Pattys Day), the Lobster pizza, and I’ve never been disappointed. They also have really good pasta dishes and give a really generous portion size. The wraps and burgers are also very delicious. Garlic knots are a must.

Have been back for pizza several times since last review and it has improved greatly. The pizza is back to where it used to be. Really good thin crust pies!

Had to meet in the area for a discussion on growing youth rugby. I’m glad the locals chose this place. What an atmosphere… treated like a regular from moment one. It helps of course when you are meeting with long time locals! Thin crust pizza was good as was the sausage with broccoli rabe… I’d prefer mine without pasta but I’m not griping! Also anywhere with Sam’s summer ale feels like home anyway

I’m biased. This place is where I fell in love with thin crust pizza. It tastes like childhood to me. I used to demand going to Val’s for my birthday every year even though it was out of the way. I think the sauce-to-crust-to-cheese combo is great. The crust is thin but dense. I love it. Adding parmesan cheese is a must to bring out all of the flavors. I cannot say enough good things about the pizza at Val’s.

Got pizza and a couple salads delivered. An hour and a half later an obviously stoned teenager stumbled up to the door with half of the order, a couple of ice cold pizzas. We had to wait another hour for the oven to preheat so we could reheat our«fresh» pies and for him to bring the salads. We order from this place often, probably will not order from them again.

Great service, but the pizza was so disappointing. Looking forward to pizza all day and it literally had no flavor.

Great bar staff and yummy food! The thin crust pizza is super tasty and the star of the show here. The garlic knots are famously cheesy and greasy, in the very best way. The spicy and rich Tequila Chicken Pasta is my all-time favorite non-pizza item(although if you’re super lucky, it is sometimes a pizza special — which is to die for). Sadly, their once famous Chopped Salad isn’t what it used to be and I find the sandwiches to be just okay — however, the burger is fantastic! In my opinion, the fun and friendly bartenders are a huge local draw and do a great job keep people coming back again and often. IMO, Val’s is still the best bar AND family place in town. The food remains a good local value and the bar atmosphere is fun, friendly and has great hometown warmth and appeal!

So I was taken here by a friend for dinner and wow that lobster pizza, yes you heard me correct lobster pizza is amazing. Full of taste and not greasy at all. They use very good products and the staff is awesome. I would have rated them a 5 star but they have no parking and that kinda was a bummer seeing that is was raining cats and dogs out and by the time we parked on the street and ran in we were soaked. But please note this place is another hide gem.

Hands down some of the best pizza I have ever tasted. I do beer promotions part-time and the owners and bar tenders are the friendliest I have ever encountered at an account. The atmosphere is laid-back; it is mostly locals and regulars. I always enjoy going here!

I have been here every week, since rediscovering this place after 15 yrs. Nice low-key hangout, interesting beers on tap, and great specials. Tuna bites are my favorite — ask for a side of cucumber wasabi! The longevity of this restaurant tells you a lot. Live music several nights a week is a major plus for me. The only problem? It’s sometimes too crowded to get in when the local HS has a football game!

First time here. Invited by a friend. A little off my beaten path. What a wonderful place. The servers treated me like extended family. Best surprise of all was the entertainment. Ronnie Brandt. Singer, guitarist and harmonica. Country, folk rock and requests. I felt like I was having a world class musician serenading me in this homey local enclave. I will for sure be back and a regular

This place is a local gem! We recently Moved to the area and we were having a hard time finding a good pizza spot… And then there’s was Val’s… All the times we have come here we sit in the bar area… Bartenders are always friendly fast and professional. And did I mention the pizza is amazing? Our favorite pizza is the buffalo chicken which can be made grilled or fried chicken it’s really good… The pizza dough is perfect!

I love this place! Pizza is amazing and always have great beers on tap. Bartenders are awesome. Matt and Bruce always take good care of my friends and I. Just moved into the area and I absolutely think I can be considered a loyal regular now. Love it and always speak highly about Val’s. Heard the shrimp pizza is unreal but haven’t had it yet!

Came here during a weekday lunch and ordered the chicken and spinach panini. It was delicious however the service was really slow. There was only one guy watching the bar and serving 5 to 6 tables at the same time. It took us around 20 minutes to get the check and pay. Worth giving it another shot.

I’ve always liked the bar. The staff is friendly(at the bar). And most of the customers at the bar have always been friendly. Tonight the food was disappointing. Onion soup was«fair» at best. And the«chopped salad» was a small portion with only a little meat and cheese. If there was an ounce of each, that would be alot. So I paid $ 9+ for a bowl of lettuce. But I’ll go back. I enjoy their«Tequila Chicken».

Great place to grab a beer and some food, either in the bar or dining room. Families in the dining room, but the good is pretty good. Garlic puffs are a must and the pizza is some very solid thin crust. Great selection on tap too.

Not sure what’s going on with the reviews below, but this place is seriously awesome. The staff is so welcoming and friendly, and the food is seriously awesome! Get the garlic puffs – omg! As new customers, Val’s gave my boyfriend and I free garlic puffs on the house just for a great new experience! Get anything that has lobster on it, and everything else is so delicious! Highly recommend – super cute.

For as long as I can remember every family mile stone has been celebrated with my extended family at Val’s.Unfortunately with such a large family reservations are a must and recently we were told no longer taken. With family that comes from near and far for the amazing service, food and atmosphere I can’t stress enough bringing back the option of placing a reservation. I would think allowing large parties to place reservations would be lucrative and good for the establishment.
