The Greater Rumford Community Center is listed on the National Historic Register. The building, formerly called The Rumford Mechanics Institute was built and dedicated in 1911.
It was founded by Hugh J Chisholm and financed by the Oxford Paper Company. In 1968 the Oxford Paper Company gave the building and land to the Rumford Mechanics Institute Association. The facility was created «to furnish the wage earners of Rumford the best quality of physical and mental, social and moral improvement, at the lowest cost.
» January 1961 the Institute qualified as a tax exempt organization under section 501©(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. In 1972, The Rumford Mechanics Institute was renamed the Greater Rumford Community Center.
Today the GRCC is supported primarily by membership fees, program fees and the Town of Rumford.

Robert (Bob) Anderson — GRCC «Program Director»
* Bob currently resides in the River Valley area with his wife Kim and children. Bob has two sons, Sam and Justin and beautiful twin daughters Kendra and Sara.
* Mr. Anderson’s hobbies include: Flea Marketing, attending Auctions, collecting «Vintage» Toys and Automobiles.
* Mr. Anderson’s other interest include coaching «Softball» for the Community Center, planning community focused fundraising events and umpiring the GRCC «Little League» baseball teams.
* Other Community Services include: The «After School» program board of directors. The «Children Outreach» board for RSU #10. Bob was the co-founder of the Western Maine youth basketball league. He served on the «Dixfield Recreation» community center. He has been a member of the Christmas in the Valley board of directors.
