Royal Oak Dental has been in Royal Oak for 30 years. The office moved to its current location in 1990 from just downt the street.

My tooth was in unbearable pain, so i went to the Royal Oak Dentist office (where I had gone for a cleaning before). The dental hygienist flossed away at the tooth, causing more pain, and said that Dr. Gilbert could take a look at it in a «few days».
I couldn’t eat, sleep, or even drink anything because of the pain (which I had made abundantly clear when I came in). After much pleading, Dr. Gilbert came in to look at my tooth and said it was nothing and that if I was in that much pain I should see a Dr. that specializes in root canals. So… My tooth was fine, but it probably wasn’t?
I went to a specialist who informed me the tooth was a cavity. So I called back to Royal Oak Dental and they informed me they’d see me in 2 weeks! I basically told them that was a ridiculous amount of time to wait, and that they just saw me and couldn’t see I needed a cavity filled. So I booked an appointment with Dr. Ferrari in Troy, same day, and she took amazing care of me (seriously, the woman is a gem).
Never, ever, ever, go to Royal Oak Dental unless you want to be in pain for long periods of time, just because you’re waiting a week to a month to see someone who can help you. Not to mention they are horrible at diagnosing situations and will make it worse.
Dr. Ferrari informed me how stupid it was of them to have inflamed the tooth more by over flossing it, and the Dr. only looking at the tooth and not actually taking an X-​Ray.
Waste of money. Waste of time. Skip ‘em. 0 stars from me

took over 2 months for these people to complete a root canal. — in fact, they never completed the cap as I went somewhere else to get it completed because I was sick of waiting. - (my new dentist is AWESOME, i’d highly recommend Lisa Lopatin!!) — I was informed the previous work I had done at Royal Oak Dental would ALL HAVE TO BE REDONE because it was done so poorly (amounting to about 2 grand to save the tooth). To add insult to injury these dickheads sent me invoices for work scheduled but not completed. — I should be suing these ass-​hats but they aren’t worth my time.
I thought this place would be nice because it was in Royal Oak, it isn’t, avoid at ALL COSTS — the way they have their automated scheduling system set up should tell you they’re only interested in cranking out appointments for insurance money, they couldn’t care less about their patients. — and I can only imagine what they are paying their Eastern European dental assistance (bottom dollar wages, no doubt). Mr. Gilbert probably use to be a hedge fund manager with all the greed that is oozing out of his practice. — he’s good at making money, not dentistry.

If I could give a 0 star I would. Went there once and was told I had 4 cavities that needed to be filled. Never went back because I didn’t like them and 8 months later I went to a different dentist and had no cavities or any other issues they told me I had. My husband went there had to cavities filled that they told him he had and one had to be replaced by them and the other 2 he had done there had to be fixed by the new dentist. Worst place to go!!! Will never go back even though our insurance promotes them.

Dr. Gilbert and his staff have cared for my dental needs for over 20 years. They are a family-​oriented office and everyone who walks through the door is considered family as well. I have had several complicated dental issues over the years, and Dr. Gilbert researches the best solution and consults with his vast network of peers to ensure the best possible outcome.
In addition, Dr. Gilbert truly practices «gentle dental» techniques to ensure the most comfortable experience possible. Honestly, what more could you ask for?

I was a patient at ROD for about a year. The staff is kind, used technology effectively, and I really thought I had found my new dentist home. The last appointment I had was to replace a routine filling. The dentist asked the hygienist to give me the numbing shot (apparently this is illegal unless the hygienist has a specific certification. I can’t say whether or not his hygienist was certified). The hygienist missed the nerve and emptied the entire shot into the tissue in my cheek. This resulted in a second shot needing to be given. No big deal until the next day when I woke up and looked like I lost a fight with Mike Tyson. My entire cheek was swollen and bruised for over a week and a half. It was bad enough that clients, family members, and total strangers were stopping me to ask if I was hurt. I realize that some people are sensitive, but I’ve never had a reaction like this, not even after having my wisdom teeth out. I called them and they said to ice it and they would follow up to make sure I was ok, but I never heard from them.
The staff and Dr Gilbert were great with the exception of this incident. I’m bummed that I am back in the hunt for a new dentist.

Been a patient for at least ten years and have always had good experiences here. Dr. Gilbert is very thorough; never feel like I’m not getting quality care.
The hygienists in the practice are pros as well; no need to think of going anywhere else. In addition, it’s been my experience that rates are lower for those of us that don’t have dental insurance. Your mileage may vary, though!

Weird, unsanitary office that feels more like someone’s basement than a legit dental office. I went to them for help with pain and now I’m in more pain because of their incompetence. Stay away from this place.
