Jax Kar Wash

We were about to head out on a 2 week driving vacation and my wife requested that I get my truck detailed first. My previous detailer had closed so I checked around and settled on a shop that was charging $ 129, but it was 15 miles away and they needed 4 hours to do it. My wife suggested this Jax location as it was close and she said they worked fast. When I took it in they quoted me $ 149 but said they could do it in 90 minutes while I waited, so I went ahead since we were leaving in 2 days and my time was valuable. Well, it turns out you can’t get a «real» detail in 1−½ hours. I got a quick interior clean and nice exterior wax, but they missed spots all over the place. The exterior got a wash and wax, but no detailing whatsoever. There was dirt all over the trim. The inside was the same. Major surfaces were covered, and the seats were shampooed, but that’s it. The rear cupholder, which had a sticky drink spill in it, was never opened. Seams on the dash had dirt in them that was visible from 4 feet away.
If this had been $ 75 I wouldn’t have cared, but this was no better than I could have done. For $ 150 it was a rip-​off. They did do a good wax job, but otherwise I felt cheated.

I stopped going to this location about a year and a half ago, the staff basically acted like they were doing you a favor poor attitudes, lack of enthusiasm. The over all product was not all that bad just all the up selling was bothersome. My regular car wash was closed today and since Jax is close to home I thought I would give it a try, hoping things would be better.
I was pleasantly surprised, no pressure at the front boot, just the information I asked for. They did a good job on the inside, and as a plus they did not play around with the controls for the heat or radio and lights, as most places seem to.
Over all I was completely satisfied with the leave of service from the staff. «very much improved». The management staff has really picked it up. I intend to stat using this location much more frequently.
Please keep up the great work, the is a great location for me to frequent.

I purchased a bumper to bumper detail a while back, finally had the time to redeem my purchase yesterday. Dropped my vehicle off, removed EVERYTHING that didn’t come with the car, and I was told in 1.5−2hrs my car would be ready. Please keep in mind, I’m pretty good with maintaining the cleanliness of my car. Came back in 2hrs, to find the guy still cleaning the outside. I waited until he finished, he asked me to check my car out to see if it was to my liking, very professional. For the price I paid, I’m expecting my car to be immaculate… however it was not. The interior was barely wiped down, there was obvious dust, sticky spills still visible throughout, the back had not even been vacuumed, my rims are full of smut, my middle console wasn’t even touched. I politely asked him what should I have expected from a bumper to bumper detail? There were just so many things missed. He apologized and told me the manager only gives them a certain amount of time to detail cars and he ran out of time. Seriously? So who loses in this situation? Me, of course. He offered to wipe down everything I pointed out, but did a poor job as I still see the same dirt and stains this morning. I didn’t have time to speak with a manager, but I will be going to do so today. Bottom line, don’t waste your money here for a full detail, it’s not worth it at all.
Update…
I went back to the car wash to hopefully get the detail I initially payed for. Spoke with the manager, voiced my complaints and pointed out the areas that were not even touched. They were very professional and said they would take care of it. After about an hour, the guy who cleaned it a second time came in and ask me to look the car over as he was finished. I point out the SAME things that were untouched after the last detail and are STILL untouched after the second. His response, «two eyes are better than one, you must keep a clean house!» My console was untouched, my air vents were untouched, my seats were untouched, my rims were untouched.
If you want to pay for a detail that you will never receive, come here. If you want to stand over the worker’s shoulder to make sure they do what they need to, come here. If you want to come back because of the poor job, only for them to fail twice, come here.
The owner would like me to update my review, and I would, but I’m unable to give 0 stars. $ 5 car wash… that should be the expectation when coming to Jax Car wash I’m Royal Oak

Out of all the Jax… this is the worst! I have the unlimited club plan, but I only come to this location if I absolutely can’t make it to another. The staff at the outside booth is ALWAYS rude… including the manager. Attitude reflects leadership. The young lady inside was pleasant, but that is the extent of the pleasantries. While I am satisfied with the Jax chain overall, I would never pay to come to this specific location.
Update — Kudos to Jason at Jax for reaching out to me to find out the the issues. While I still stand by my review, I appreciate Jason for taking the time to investigate. I hope the recent changes in management that Jason spoke about brings improvements to this location.

Took my Audi in to get carpets shampooed. OMG! They used so much solution that the comfort control module under the carpet was flooded. I spent over $ 1,000 to get replaced. If you need something other than a routine wash… go somewhere else.

AMAZING. Just simply amazing. I’m SO super impressed with the staff and service I received today. I did not come in today with a simple interior job– someone had an accident in the car! Being my first time there, they were very professional, courteous, and happy I was there. The front desk associate (Monique, I believe) was very pleasant to speak with, and when I asked about different packages, she was extremely helpful in answering my questions, and exposing their offerings.
Edward, the gentleman in charge of cleaning the interior was very kind about the situation, explained the detailing process to me thoroughly, and did an amazing, thorough job! Will definitely be back-​hopefully with an easier job for them this time.

They have now damaged my car… twice!
I had a very similar experience to Laura M with the full detailing. They quoted me an hour or an hour and a half. When I came back two and a half hours later, they said it was still going to be another 45 minutes. I told them I would wait. It was clear that they rushed through the remaining work as there was still wax that needed to be buffed off, salt on my carpets, as well as a gouge in the rubber below my windshield. When I brought it to the staffs attention, they shrugged and told me they didn’t have anything that would cause damage like that. When I asked to speak to a manager, they said I would have to come back on Monday.
Add this to the fact that my car was down ¼ tank of gas, likely from the AC being cranked to full blast. Oh, and getting incorrect change, although they did call me to return the rest of my money.
When I went back to speak to a manager, they once again shrugged off the damage. When I went to Autometric to get a quote, they pointed out that the plastic piece between my passanger side mirror and door was also broken.
Jaxx policy to pay for any damage (if you can actually get them to accept responsibility) is to get quotes from 3 different shops. I think they bank on the fact that most people wont waste the time.
Needless to say, I’m not going back again.

Had bought a detail package in the fall and finally got around to scheduling my appt yesterday. I specifically requested Mike to do the detail as I’m a Jax regular and he always seemed pleasant when I’ve gone thru the car wash over the years. My car is a 2008 and this was the first time I had it detailed. I was shocked at how beautiful it came out, just like new! I even had a scuff on the outside of my car that he had gotten out. I was nervous scheduling my appt after reading previous reviews, but I have nothing but good things to say about my experience!

As soon as I posted my poor review Jason (VP marketing) contacted me. I was still at the wash waiting for my car to finish and I spoke with the manager and they had already seen the post and called the general manager onsite. They took my information and used security cameras to identify the employee. I was told the employee I identified would be terminated and given 2 free car washes to come back and review their service again. I’ll probably try another location, but the situation was remedied in a prompt manner by management, which makes me feel good that this was a unique occurrence.

Best service I’ve experienced at a car wash in years.
This reminds me of the wash by my childhood home in it’s heyday in the 90’s.
The front attendants were all very friendly and thorough with how they explained things.
The lot is neat and engineered for smooth flow traffic in and out and to the vacuums which are free to those getting a wash. Great suction too.
The $ 5.99 standard wash did my car just right. No scratches but all the road trip bugs are gone.
I’ll be back for a detail, although I prefer doing it myself, I trust the work here is quality.

I have been taking my cars to Jax for 20 years. I frequent the RO location. I like the Birmingham location a little better. They seem to do a more through job and the workers are a little friendlier. That said. There are a couple workers at the RO location who are awesome. And let’s face it, when you tip well, you are taken care of. I am assuming the workers work for tips. I see people roll up a buck and hand it over to the workers. Come on. I tip well and I am always happy with the care given to my car. I have used the detailing at the RO location a few times and have been very pleased.

Jax is a full service car wash — I have always been impressed with how friendly and diligent the workers are.
I am posting because unfortunately, our mirror was broken during the wash. Jax handled this really well and paid us in cash for the new mirror. They were friendly and professional in helping us. It was sort of a freak thing for the mirror to just detach and crack while the car was being «blown dried».
I will admit that I avoid taking our cars here because I get really nervous and freak out about pulling the car in just right — and I have confirmed with many of my female friends that they also hate this! So my husband takes the cars, including his work car which he is required to keep clean, and he is always happy with the result.

This place deserves zero stars.
So it was payday and I got out of work early. I decided to treat myself and car to a detailing. I’ve never detailed my car and this place is always crazy busy so I decided to give it a try. Biggest consumer mistake ever.
First the guy who takes your money up sells you like a motherfuc*ker. I got the $ 160 deal which basically includes everything but you have to request the trunk and they clean nothing under the hood. I though that my car would look like brand new after spending $ 160 and the guy taking my money confirmed that.
So the whole process takes 45 minutes they told me. Sweet!
Yeah freaking right.
While waiting the manager that was «visiting» the RO location decided to talk in front of the guests about how the turnover is so high he never knows any of the workers. Geeze, the way management treats the workers like busy bees I can see why the turnover is so high. At this point I knew professionalism lacked here.
So after waiting 90 minutes for what should of been 45 minutes I go to check out my car that is done. First thing I notice is a big dirt mess on my car door handle that I showed the guy and wiped off with my own spit on the finger. Next… THERE IS A BIG RIP IN MY PASSENGER SEAT. I show the guy AND HE DENIES RIPPING IT. Hold up… WTF?
So a manager comes and checks it out. Yeah the guy cleaning it left one of the tools on and placed it on the side and it ripped my seat.
So I go inside with the manager while he never apologized and wrote up a report. He said they would pay for it and I needed to go to 17.5 Mile Rd and Mound but he forgot the places name so I’ll have to Google it. WTF? Seriously?
I felt bad for the worker as the managers treat them like crap. I know he got in trouble for that.
Ok so at this point I just want to leave. I get in my car and head home. The back window was never cleaned as my ashtray too. Looks like a few more spots on the upholstery that were not there before. The next morning I’m driving down 696 E and the sun hits my front window. It’s so smeared with cleaner I can hardly see. WORST CLEANING JOB EVER. I got scammed.
So I take time off work to head to 17 Mile. They give me the estimate. Guess what?! Jax does not like it and makes me take off more work to go to another part of town. That is total BS. Get your crap together and use one location for repairs. The supervisor at RO said that he was unsure why he sent me so far away with the first estimate. Yeah, me freaking too.
So at this point I’m in contact with the GM of all the carwash locations. I don’t think I should take another hour of vacation time to deal with this. The GM said I did. There were many phone calls between the GM of all locations, supervisor at the RO location, and myself. They always told me they would call me back by a certain day and never did. The GM said the supervisor should of called me back when he did not. The supervisor said the GM should of called me back when he did not. Yeah this is how this place operates.
They asked for my address to send me some free car washes. Yeah right. I want a REFUND.
In the end I got my car fixed. The location where I got it fixed was very unprofessional. Talked to them on a Friday and was dropping my car off Sunday night for a Monday repair. The owner told me to call him Monday and remind him my car was there. Ugh, ok.
DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR HERE!
Oh yeah I forgot that the estimate from the place which ended up doing the repair sat in the fax machine for 3 days while the manager did not check for it after I told them it would be there. How do I know this? Because 72 hours after I sent it I called to confirm they were writing the check ASAP. The manager never seen the estimate because it was still at the fax. He had to go get it and he didn’t submit it by the cutoff. I had to wait and extra week to get the money for the repair because of this. Jax is a hot mess. Stay far away.
So let me update this since Jax replied:
I live in Ferndale NOT BY MOUND AND 17 Mile. The manager who told me to go there DID NOT ASK WHERE I LIVE FIRST. Secondly, who cares if the review is 5 months later? Took 2 months (Oct) for you guys to pay the bill. :)

I’ve gone here for years because it’s close to my house. I prefer the Birmingham location. I have a lease right now so I’m not that picky… read on if you own your car. You can get a good wash if you are diligent.
Lot’s of references to the chip guy. Be firm and tell him you don’t want him to check your windshield. He is very pushy. He uses a dry rag to try to find chips — it will SCRATCH the dirty glass. He should ask after the car wash is done. Haven’t seen him in a while… Check w your insurance guy first and use a pro.
The help is very hit and miss. Mostly miss.
1) They pretend to vacuum unless you stay on top of them. You must request to have your mats rinsed if they are rubber. You must request to have the trunk area vacuumed.
2) They will steal your stuff if you leave it in the car. Sun glasses stolen — my fault for leaving them in the car.
3) The pre-​rinse guy is usually alone — does the driver side of the car only, at best. I pay him a buck to pre-​rinse my car thoroughly so that the first set of rugs doesn’t scratch my car — there is barely any water on the car going into the first set…
5) If they are busy it seems like they speed up the line so your car goes through in record time.
6) Full service is very lame the majority of the time. Poor/​partial window cleaning. Usually looks worse after. Wipe down is the same. I also ask for them to do it again and they do.
7) You have to get out of your car and watch them dry it or it will be a waste. I tip them a buck or two if I get out of the car.

Thank you for the note Jason — I’ve been going to this location for years and everything I’ve said is true. I believe if someone follows my advice they will be fine. You might want to post something about the faster rates on the line if you are busy. Read the reviews — the chip guys is pushy as all get out. Regarding my glasses, I didn’t realize they were missing until the next morning when I went to pull them out of the holder — so it was too late at that point to do anything about it.

I went through the quickie wash — not worth $ 9.99. There’s a drive through wash right by my house that does the same thing for $ 4.99. I wanted to get the dirt, bird poop, and bugs off my car. Didn’t work — there was still even the white wax crayon on my window that they used to mark what service I bought.
I will go back and see how their full service is when the weather breaks a bit.

Great if you don’t mind terrible service, high pressure sales people and scratches inside and outside your car. Oh and a crappy car wash. The vacuums don’t work and they will scratch your car interior as well. Luckily, they just raised their prices. Only reason I come back is because I was foolish enough to buy a year pass
