Specialties
For more than 40 years, Cloverleaf Fine Wine has been the finest source for quality, unpretentious wine advice in southeast Michigan. In the past decade or so, Cloverleaf has also become an outstanding source for the legions of passionate craft beer drinkers in the area. In an era when wine can be purchased at massive Big Box wholesale operations (and hey, we love Costco too!), there is still an urgent need for the kind of experience and exclusivity the serious Michigan wine and beer buyer gets from no place other than Cloverleaf Fine Wine & Craft Beer.
While we can recommend, appreciate, have and/or can find all the big 96 point rated Cabernet Sauvignons and Bourdeaux costing sometimes hundreds of dollars, our real pleasure comes from finding great wine values at all price levels for our regular customers. These are wines that way outperform those found ubiquitously on grocery store shelves – usually at much lower prices. And we believe in helpful, laid-back, and informative service.
History
Established in 1961.
For years, the Cloverleaf wine operation was based in the old Cloverleaf Market in Southfield, Michigan, at the corner of 12 Mile and Telegraph. When the Lutfy family closed the market and put up a gas station and convenience store on that site in the 1990s, the wine and liquor operation was moved to the Applegate Square on Northwestern Highway at Inkster Rd. In the spring of 2008, Cloverleaf Fine Wine & Craft Beer shifted operations east, to its current location in the subterranean level of the St. Clair Edison Bldg in downtown Royal Oak.
Meet the Manager
Tom N.
Manager
In 1980, Tom tasted a Chalone 1977 Chardonnay. It was rich, buttery and exemplified natural and man-made beauty like only wine can. Sunshine, nectar and craftsmanship transformed young Tom. His passion was supported by the fellowship of other enthusiasts: Tim McCarthy (Cost Plus), Joe Sanchez, Richard Vincent (Traffic Jam & Snug), Madeline Triffon (Unique Restaurant Corp.), Rick Lopos (Viviano), Chip Delsner (AHD Vintners), Dale Olis (Demorest), Shelly Eichner (J Winery), Paul Antonelli (Veritas), John Lossia (Merchant’s Fine Wine) and Elie Boudt (Elie’s) were among them. This round-table of tasters witnessed together the surge in quality of California wine during the 1980s, as well as the unimpeachable, classic flavors of Europe. In 1998, Tom joined Cloverleaf as a wine consultant.
