Southlands Christian Schools

SCS is one private Christian school I would highly recommend to any parents who are seeking for a higher standard of practice in education that you won’t find as much anymore in public school. My kids started with SCS by attending their summer camp and fell in love with the school because of the staffs and the culture of excellence that the school carry throughout the entire campus from the security, janitor, administration, teachers, etc. You will even see the President of this entire organization «Mr. Duncan» out getting down and dirty kicking ball with students. My son who is autistic attended the summer camp and he came home saying «Mommy I must be famous everybody know me here» because all staffs really take the time to acknowledge and know your child so they can cater to each individual needs and for a mother to a special need child that was a shower of joy that just pour on you. My oldest girl just finished her first academic year with SCS and she was skeptical at first because of the changes from public school to private. First few months was a huge adjustment she experienced from having to be structure, better organization, better time management and self discipline. However, she adjusted very well and promoted to middle school with honors and «YES» straight «A’s» and throughout the year you will find yourself being called in to meet or receiving email from the principal or her teachers to acknowledge your child’s progress, outstanding job, and concerns. She loves her school and They really do care about how your child does academically, spiritually, and overall performance. My youngest is a preschooler and she loves going to school and their program cover all the developmental skills. This coming Fall my other Child will start her 6^th grade with SCS and I can’t wait since it will reduce one more destination for pick up and drop off! My only wish is SCS will soon offer IEP program for special needs, may not be in time for my son but it will make a huge different for some parents who are seeking for better solution for their special need child that public school can’t offer because of budget but some parents are willing to invest for better environment and program for their special need child but just can’t seem to find a place that offer that. I give this place 5 stars for its excellence in services, practices, operation, and academic program.

I wasted a year in southland. I transferred from a public school and transferred again after that year to Sierra Canyon. I was a international student and the teachers were really not nice to us. Some people thought that we did not respect Christianity that is because we were not raised with it. My cultural background was absolutely not respected and I cannot speak my first language in the school. This is really pathetic and it is not helping with our English. There were a couple of nice teachers but the rest of them were really mean; one of my friends got expelled only because he spoke a lot of Chinese, the thing is, he doesn’t speak English, not even a little bit, he only stayed for a month and guess what, he didn’t get his tuition back. If you cannot accept people speaking in their mother tongue or, you are racist, don’t accept us at the first place. Also, I paid a lot of extra $$$, the teachers wanted us to buy them stuff, how weird is that. Btw 90% of the students are international students.

This review is only from my personal experience as a high school student last year at the school. The other grade levels may have a different experience but my friends all agreed with this assessment as well.
At the high school some students just complained and they got good grades because the principal or the vice principals would talk to the teachers. Or the teachers no longer cared so they gave everyone high grades no matter how well they were doing in class. To give an example. I turned in the same homework in class each week and got full credit on it even though it was the same thing. The teacher would just check it in class and give me full credit each time. I did no homework in this class after the first week. Great for me but I learned nothing in this class. I new a student who did not get above a 60% on any test all year and managed to still get an «A» for the semester grade after she complained to the vice principal.
The Chinese students are also not very nice. Most of them swear in Chinese and make fun of Christianity and Christians in Chinese and the teachers and the staff don’t know the difference. One of my friends who spoke fluent Chinese was laughing one day as we passed by a group speaking Chinese and he said it was because almost every other work was the F word. I am happy that I left the school last year and went someplace better.

One of the most important aspects of a preschool for our family is that our child is loved and secure. Southlands preschool cares deeply about its students. My daughter loves to go to school and talks about her teachers and friends on the weekends. She gets a lot of cuddles and nurturing and teachers go out of their way to help the kids feel comfortable. The play equipment and indoor and outdoor decorations are creative and stimulating and they have a new curriculum focusing on aspects of language, spiritual, and physical domains. As a parent, I feel blessed to have found a school that is like a 2^nd home.

This school has been a huge blessing not only to my daughter (who graduated) and my son but also to my whole family. First of all, their teachers pour out, I mean they really POUR out their love, energy, time, tear, love and more LOVE to my kids. I can literally sense the genuine love in these teachers eyes and their everyday hugs they give to my son. Mrs. Lorraine, who has been my daughter and son’s teacher ever since they were two years old, is my kids’ second mommy. Ms. Esther, who is my son’s current teacher, always carries around this huge smile and so much joy, and I know her genuine joy rubs on to my son daily. Secondly, this school has an amazingly well structured learning program. All the staffs and teachers are very well informed about early childhood development, and the teachers’ lessons and daily activities are carefully planned to meet the developmental needs of my son. My son loves this school and calls it his second home!

Staff is caring and small class sizes. This is a gem of a school for the RH community.

I think this is the best Christian School in the area. I personally know the principal, Mr. Glenn Duncan, and also some of their staff/​teachers and parents.
I went to their SCS Harvest Festival in their Farjardo location on November 1, 2013, and my daughter and I had a blast. The staff, teachers, parents and children are friendly, warm and very welcoming.
Now, my daughter don’t attend this school, but this is the school I would put my daughter in, if I don’t homeschool her, yes, I homeschool my daughter :)
Love the people, the environment and overall atmosphere, and I believe your children will not only get the best possible education from SCS, but they will be well fed spiritually. God bless!

The teachers and staffs are so friendly. Some parents even have three or four children studying in this school. I know several people whose children graduated from Southlands Christian Schools. They are all highly recommended this school.

Never in my time as a minister have I encountered a school that carries such a culture of excellence as I have seen in Southlands. They have built upon a foundation so rooted in the Word of God, and it is evident in how the lives of the children of our church have been so impacted.
If you are serious about sending your kids to a school that will train them up in the way they should go, THIS is the place. Excellent leaders, excellent educators, and an amazing work ethic are the standard. And this is evident in the way greatness is exhibited, from the board all the way down to the teachers.

The school is great. My daughter has been there since 2^nd grade. She is a 6^th grader now. She loves the education and after school activities. My son is a kindergarten. He loves playing soccer and playground. He learns a lot from his teacher. All the teachers are well educated and nice. It’s a good environment for kids to grow and be successful.
A lot of parents are very involved there. And the principle is the best.

SCS is a wonderful Christian school. As a Christ-​centered family we not only expect high academic standard for our children, we also expect a school with high biblical principles. It is their mission to educate students in excellence & integrity, to lead and impact society by fulfilling their destiny for the glory of God. This is not a marketing slogan, this is SCS’ calling! I enjoy the close relationship with their teachers. To me, they are more than just teachers in the classrooms. We work as a team in order to strengthen our children in academia as well as in biblical principles. To my children, their classmates are more than just school peers; they have developed genuine friendships that could last a lifetime.

The standards are high and it’s a reallly good school for your children. I’m very proud to say that my kids went to SCS from preschool all the way to high school.
Teachers are very dedicated with the students although some are very strict. Academic goals are very high at SCS and students put a lot of effort into the AP/​Honors classes.

Both of my kids have been in Southlands christian schools since first grade. My oldest will be a Senior this year. They truely teach the kids how to become leaders in life and that, next to academics makes a great formula for success. Southlands is like a big family and we have always felt that our kids are in a very safe and trusted environment, and that is priceless. Southlands highschool graduates have been getting accepted to many top rated universities like UCLA, UCSD, USC, NYU,…

We have 4 kids in SCS raging from 2^nd grade to a Jr in HS. We couldnt say enough great things about the school and their staff. We have been blessed to have our kids start off from Pre K and watched them grow to where they are now, and we wouldnt trade our experience with SCS for the world. Sometimes you find a school with a great curriculum but the atmosphere isnt quite right. Or maybe the location is nice but you might have some reservations regarding staff or classroom feel. We are very proud to say that SCS has it all. The relationship not just with our kids to their teachers but our own personal relationships with the staff and teachers at SCS is priceless. I guess to truly sum it up… we are all family… through thick and thin. I also volunteer in my children’s classrooms and it is such a joy to see my kids react to their teachers the way that they do. My kids love their teachers. My kids love waking up in the morning knowing that their goin to school… and its like pulling teeth trying get them out of there after school. They just really love the place and would rather spend as much time as they can with their friends and teachers there. If you are in search of a school that has biblical foundations in their teachings, loving teachers who truly see the best and want the best for your child… where your child;s interest makes a difference… where prayer makes the world of difference… stop by and visit the school… or maybe come one morning and play kickball with the school administrator. Mr Duncan wont be too hard to find. He will be the one in the middle with all the kids doing what he does best…

Preschool is amazing!!!
My son had Mrs. Rosie, and we were so fortunate to have her as his first teacher. This is an amazing school with a staff that absolutely loves children.
We wanted to send our son to a Christian school, but academics was a top priority. Our son loved going to school, and he is more than ready for kindergarten.
Unfortunately, our family moved, so it’s not possible to send our children there anymore. If I lived a little closer, I would send them there as long as I could afford it.
If you are contemplating Southland, do your child a favor and enroll them.

Awesome preschool that really instills proper values onto these little kids. Clean, well-​run, competitively priced, and introduces Christian concepts to preschool kids in a way they can understand.
