Bad experience with Monnie. I have been going to her for facials from time to time since 2013 after buying the package. Everything I went there she tried to sell me different things… perming eye lashes, overpriced facial serum, Foreo facial brush etc. If I showed no interest she would try even harder, forcing me by telling me how bad my skin is and how it is lack of care because I am not using her product and not coming to her often enough. I tried my best to use up the package because I paid for it but every time it was a torture listening to her bragging about her products. I ended up going the very last time this week thinking that I can finally finish up the package. During the treatment she again trying to force me to buy the next package. She claimed that if I don’t buy the next package I would have to pay for this last time treatment because the original package expired a month ago. (she did not clarify this was a 2 year package to begin with.) I ended up having an argument with her as I refused to pay and she talked back saying very inappropriate comments about how I «calculate to pennies» and «she has 500 customers, no one can take so long to finish a package» etc. All in all, I would not recommend her for facials to anyone. Save your money and go somewhere else!

Bad experience!!! My hair color was totally mess up with Charlene !!! I want light brown n she show me my hair can’t bleach to «light «only like «coffee brown» but turns out my hair is «shiny orange «spend 70 on hair color n 20 tips !!! Totally not worth it !!! She still want to charge me for her mistakes to make it right !!! Well, since she mess up my hair I’m still not going back to her again !!!

Love Gary! He cuts my hair, and he’s good at what he does. The store is clean and the service is excellent. I’m always happy after I leave this place. I highly recommend it if you have Asian hair and want a professional and knowledgable hairdresser. It’s
$ 45 for a haircut and I leave a $ 10 tip. It’s worth it.

i tried many salons before. some barber just cut shape out, but my hair wasnt same as the photo i have expected. Hairstylist Charlene is really professional, and she is really friendly. i would like to come again!

Charlene is a very prossional stylist. She knows what you want and she will get you there. Hairstyles designed by her are very fashionable and gook-​looking. Definitely recommended.

I went here to get my eyebrows done for $ 10. It was my first time getting them done by a professional, I screwed up my own eyebrows by doing them myself before. but the lady over there fixed my eyebrows and made them look really good. she can speak cantonese (and i think also mandarin?) and she’s really nice and sweet ^_​^ it didn’t hurt much either because she was really quick with plucking them. you should also call to make an appointment, they have a lot of customers.

This review is for Monnie’s facials. I have been going to Monnie for facials since 2006. (Wow I just realized how long ago that is) I have always jumped from places to places until I found Monnie. Her prices are very reasonable and her facials are about an hour and a half. I get compliments about my skin all the time and I know part of that reason is her. I’ve referred several of my friends to her and they all love her. She clears away your dead skin cells… gives you a wonderful relaxing face massage. And to top that she also threads your facial hair and brows. I don’t trust anyone but her with my brows. Then she proceeds to extract pimples and puts on a whitening mask. The whole process is super relaxing. I wow HIGHLY recommend trying her out… oh and she doesn’t push products on you like some other places, but she’ll suggest her products if you ask her about them.

Hair cut for mens is in the $ 35 range. My stylist says they do hair for fashion shows and the like. I do admit that the cutting is more modern but it’s hard for an average guy like me to upkeep and put in the time to make it look great each day. I’d rather pay a little more to go to J’s Hair Salon (less crowded, and rushed too)!

I come here after reading raving reviews for Monnie’s facials. Unfortunately, I wasn’t impressed at all. Her facials are no more than average, and not too through. Pricing was good, but I highly recommend driving to Renee Tseng (Skin Resolutions) — her facials are uncomparably better.
I also tried Leo for a haircut. I agree with the others on Leo as a stylist, as I ended up with a haircut way different than what I asked for. It was a decent cut (not great)… from the other reviews, I would recommend trying Gary instead.

I love Monnie, don’t get me wrong, she gives the best facials and services there is.
But Leo… eh…his haircuts turn out hideous.
I go in ask for a trim, and my layers went all the way to the top of my ears. Maybe I didn’t tell him that I don’t want choppy layers, but he decided to do it anyways. Now its really hard to style and I have uneven layers, and I have decided to chop it all off today.
Don’t get me wrong, he’s a super nice guy, but I think I rather go to Fantastic Sams and get the same haircut for $ 10.
Paying $ 40 for a really bad haircut just isn’t worth it. Sigh.

This review is specifically for Leo. From 2000 to about 2005, Leo was the only person who cut my hair. He was absolutely awesome then. At that time, he wasn’t at Saloon for Hair. I was a loyal client who followed him everywhere. Even after I moved to the bay area, I still went to him for haircuts. If this review were written then, he would have gotten 5 stars. Something happened since he opened up Saloon for Hair, it’s like he lost his magic. The cuts there were inconsistent, you never know if it’ll be a hit or a miss. The very last time I went to him for a haircut (August 2008), it was a big disaster. I asked for a layered bob, he gave me a mullet! A mullet!!! My hair was almost like a grown out boys cut with a a few strands in the back that hung close to my shoulders. My bangs were so short I couldn’t do anything about it. I couldn’t wear a headband or pin my bangs up because at 1 to 2 cm long, it would spike up. He told me to comb some of the longer hair from the top of my head to the front. I was so desperate, I tried it, it didn’t work. I find it funny now but it wasn’t funny then. Every time I saw myself in the mirror, I got upset. I ended up wearing a hat for a month then wore head bands for another month before my hair was long enough to do anything about it.
The noble thing to do was to apologize and admit that he screwed up. he said he had to cut it like that because I had too much hair on top and too little hair on the bottom and the side. (By the way, I have a layer bob now, it seems like the current stylist I go to had no problem w/​me having too much hair on the top and too little hair on the bottom and the side. In fact, she doesn’t think i have that issue.) When I left Saloon for hair, he recommended that I should stick to long layered hair. A few days later, I called him and told him how miserable I was and asked him for a refund. He said he couldn’t refund me because he didn’t know how. (How can he not know how?) He said the best he could do was give me a free haircut next time. Hmm… grow out my hair out so that he can turn it back to a mullet!!! I think not.
So why a 2 stars? If it was based on my last experience it would be a 0 star. Since I would have given him a 5 star once a upon a time and a 0 star now, the average is a 2.5. I thought I would take off another .5 for not admitting that he screwed up.

i came here because a friend raved about gary and i didn’t want to drive to costa mesa anymore to get my hair did anymore. so i tried it out. geebus gary is great! he made sure that i got what i wanted (which was to cut all the dead parts but keep a good length since my hair is long). he also gave me tips on how to keep it healthy and stuff which wanted me to buy some new product as well.
also, the guy washing my hair was great too. some people just want to get it over with quick but he made sure water didn’t get in my ears (which happens often) and dried any area of my head that got wet (which not all people do).

Monnie for facial. I heard about her from my friend. I am very picky when it comes to facial. i have been to MANY places in LA, and she is really good and reasonable. I got the Ensyme Whitening Treatment. *i uploaded the menu* She did a GREAT job on my face. Deeply cleaned my pores, then get rid of the dead skin. My face was a lot brighter afterward. I will recommend you to get the package (10 times), so its $ 55 each. Good deal. She will also clean your eyebrows. You will not regret it gal…
Gary for haircut.
Gary has a good sense of styling. I recommend him to you all gals. He does not mess up your hair or give you some crapy layer. I had a hair dresser before that put his own creativity on me. of course. HE IS OUT. Even tho the drive is far, but i will only go to someone i trust for my hair.

Saloon is owned by the Chung brothers and Gary has been my Stylist for over 2 yrs now. Even though I moved from L.A., I come back for haircuts whenever I’m in town. Every time I come here, I try to convince Gary to open a shop in the Bay Area.
Gary is very passionate and diligent about crafting the art of your hair. He really listens to what you want and makes an effort to understand each client’s style. If you have a picture that helps. I totally trust him.
The newest hair wash guy is also VERY good, the haircut comes with this hair wash massage and it was the best one I’ve ever had.
Saloon also offers facials and sells hair products. Appointments are recommended. Parking is plentiful and free and located in the YES Plaza.
