Master Tech

These guys are great. It was my first time getting service at this shop and I plan on coming again. I entered wanting to get an oil and filter change, but I knew there would be a few things needed to be fixed as well. It’s been years since my car’s last maintenance check. To my good fortune, my bill was extremely fair. There were no miscellaneous, arbitrary fees such as labor costs for a cabin air filter change (lol) or for balancing tires. Most importantly, my car left the auto shop in excellent shape.

I brought my car in right when he was closing on the day before thanksgiving, and I felt terrible about it. I brought my car to another auto shop recently and I kept having new problems surfacing. Today, I was trying to get my head lights changed and had brought it to pep boys which told me there was a 3 hour wait! Then I went to the express oil change place off Azusa and Colima, which I do NOT recommend going to. They told me my other light needed to be changed when it was fine when I had brought it in! It suddenly just stopped working right when I got there so I wanted to take it somewhere else. I found master tech on Unilocal and was kindly helped by Danny. He was very genuine and knew what he was doing. I would go back again. I felt like the other places might be cheap but they don’t do a good job. He is very reasonable and very genuine which is very important in any industry. Thank you again Danny for all of your help. I truly appreciate it!!!

I always bring my Honda cars To Master Tech for tune ups, oil changes and maintenance. I feel I’m getting honest, guaranteed work done at an affordable price.
Danny is one really nice guy and with his Japanese auto repair skill sets he’s the one and only person to call when my car is in need on care. I’d recommend this place to family and friends so that says a lot of this wonderful place.
I have two Hondas and a Toyota that I bring here for everything.

I went here due to all the Unilocal reviews and was pretty disappointed since their pricing wasn’t nearly as good as others have stated. I also didn’t find their customer service at all deserving of 5 stars and was average at best. I knew what needed to be done to my car and looked up several youtube videos to see if I could do it myself, but decided to go to a mechanic since it wasn’t something I felt comfortable completing myself.
I didn’t need an explanation of what was going to be done, but after the service was over, it would have been nice if he showed me the work or walked me through what was complete other than just handing me my keys (the wrong keys at that interestingly).
I have a 2002 Toyota Camry that had a Check Engine light with a P1135 code, which I got from Pep Boys who will check the code of a Check Engine light for free. This was the 3^rd mechanic I visited and the most expensive. Why did I go here then? Well, my dad who was driving me around to take me home while my car was getting repaired didn’t want to go back to the other mechanics so I just bit the bullet and went here.
The first mechanic told me it would cost around $ 250. The second mechanic told me it would cost $ 210, and this one told me it would cost $ 260. The prices weren’t that different so I just sucked it up and decided to go here.
Now the job was actually finished pretty fast, within a few hours, which was nice, but what rubbed me the wrong way was when I saw his billing statement. He had the oxygen/​fuel sensor for $ 200 and $ 45 in labor plus tax making it an even $ 260.
I know they sell this part on Amazon for like $ 70 (Bosch or Denso) and at Pep Boys and Autozone for a little over $ 100, so basically he charged me double what the cost is at Pep Boys, which is literally a few blocks away. Now maybe he used a sensor that was super high-​end that justifies the $ 200 charge, but if that were the case, he should have explained that the part was a top-​tier product and that was the reason for the higher cost, which he didn’t.
Now, I knew all this before I went to him and some would say that I could have just bought the part and then paid him for labor, which is true, but the tricky part about doing it that way is you never know what other parts are needed such as the special sealant they recommend when putting the plug back in or some minor things and that can be a hassle causing more trouble with your car down the road.
In some sense, I can’t fault him completely, but I’m not going to give him high marks when I know he’s not a very inexpensive mechanic and I’m not sure if he’s even fair with the prices for his parts. However, his labor costs seem reasonable.
However, i won’t be going back to him again.

This is my first time here, and I feel so lucky that i was able to find this place!
Because the price is very reasonable, and the owner named danny, he is very kind and nice.
When i asked some question, he answered me with very polite attitude.
And also the service was very quick and great!
I will tell all my friends and family that this place is the right place to fix your car!

I normally just get my oil change here because they’re super fast and nice. Today, I had other work done. My front rotors, back resurfaced, new break pads and filters needed some attention. They gave me a really good estimate for everything too! Thank God.
For a girl, I’m always paranoid about getting ripped off but this place won’t! They genuinely put customer care first. They even gave me advice about my accident (My car is slightly bruised at the moment).
Anyway, I really do appreciate kindness and would recommend them to everyone! The whole staff is very nice and helpful.

Thank you, Danny! Amazing customer service. I came in when they were about to close since it was after work, but he still took me in and did a full inspection. No up sells or any extra pushing! Great customer service.

I got my air filter changed here and the guy was awesome! He changed it for me, cleaned my car and checked everything under the hood. Didn’t tax me! Awesome service and everything, definitely coming again :)

Master Technicians. Living up to their name located next to Carl’s Jr toward the back of the building. I normally don’t review unless I want to out of my own will.
But wow these guys revived my car back to pulse. Car died in the middle of freeway. A couple things went wrong previously including coolant/​radiator, thermostat, valve cover gasket, oils, filters, old sparks, etc. But man do these guys do a clean job. They fixed it all WITH THE CHEAPEST QUOTES!
They are 110% honest mechanics doing a really thorough job specializing in Japanese cars, down to the smallest details other shops may be ignorant of (silicone dabs on VCG, appropriate tools i.e. torque wrench used properly when needed) – and they do genuine, non half-​ass work. They really know their stuff. Danny the owner is a trustworthy and cool dude. He won’t rip you off with parts you don’t need, his quote on my VGC was only 110 while other places quoted me 250 – 350. Crazy. Quick and efficient always, I now trust their work ethics and will continue to come back here. Support the local!
I previously had a leaking issue which was magically fixed when it wasn’t even requested. Danny also quoted me a price which he didn’t raise even when the labor took longer than expected. I don’t understand why they shouldn’t receive 5 stars, they really are quick, genuine, honest, and cheap/​fair priced at the least.
Oh and one more, Danny took a look at me being a student and as if he understood my tight money, there have been times I know where he went out of his way/​profit to get things done. These are true compliments from within and I’m sure more will come as I come back. Thanks Master Tech y’all crazy!

Okay this is NOT a dessert or ice cream review LOL but hey, I DO have to drive to get to my dessert places and I canNOT do that without a working car~!
It seems that there are a few things that is hard to find, good dentist, a good doctor, yummy ice cream, and an honest mechanic who is good as well~!! One can go YEARS looking for the one who fits what you’re looking for, comfortable with, taste yummy (ice cream), and is HONEST. Now let me tell you, people think I am nuts to drive MILES to my dentist. But hello, I drive even MORE miles for ice cream. And it is just ice cream! Driving far to get your teeth fixed by an honest and GOOD dentist is important~! Driving miles for ice cream is just as important~!! To get your car fixed is also worth it if I want to continue to be the DQ like HELLO.
SO yeah. The review. The owner is NICE NICE NICE and if you’re female, like me, who knows ZILCH about cars, than this is the place to bring your car. BUT, Japanese cars is their specialty.
They won’t scam you or try to sell you stuff you don’t need. If you live near by or if you want to get dropped off the mall while you wait for your car, they can do that. Carl’s Jr. is right next door if you want go chill and eat while you wait as well. Or ask to drop you off at YES PLAZA. There’s Banana Bay or BCD TOFU, Tastea, Ichi Ichi Fusion Shabu & Tempura. There’s Honeymee for dessert at the plaza. Yum Yum~!! And a bunch of other shops.
You can wait here but the waiting room is very tiny. It’s fine if it’s not hot. Summer time I seriously die. Now should be fine. Bring your laptop, plugs, not sure about wifi though. So anyway, when they find something wrong with your car, the owner will take you to your lifted car, show you and explain what is wrong. I am telling you, no scams. Normally, when I take my car for repair, they just give me a list of things wrong, but I never thought to ask to see if I can check out the problems. I am so trusting, probably too much.
So whether you’re in the area or not, I’d take my Japanese/​Korean car here to get it repaired. Maybe you can get your oil changed, and they can look at your car to inspect it for you for any repairs needed. Oil change is $ 25~!! He’s had the same price for like 20 years lol. He said the price has NEVER changed. WOW.
Hours 8−5pm. Closed Sundays.
TRUST ME WHEN I SAY the owner is VERY caring~! You aren’t just a customer. He expects you to come back to him, so he will treat you very nicely. He is supposed to retire and his son is supposed to take over but I think he does not want to leave.
And if you cannot pay right away, he might let you make installments. MIGHT. Or maybe if you became a loyal customer. He is such a nice man. :)

I’ve come here for my last three car repairs and have always been pleased by the quality of work, the honesty of the workers, and the short amount of time each repair takes. I really appreciate the breakdown of each repair on the receipt they give you, and the location is very convenient. I will always give Master Tech my business and would definitely recommend them for any Honda repairs.

This place almost ruin my car. I used to go next door for my maintenance. But I saw so many good review, so I want to give it a try. I just had a routine oil change but nothing fancy. While I was waiting, the owner ask me how I find his shop and I told him that I used to go next shop of him. He started talking wrong thing about his competitor; how messy they are and do not tell their customer about their work in detail. I just listen and do not pay attention to him because I only believe what I experienced. After the oil change, I received my invoice and it had checked box show what inspection had done, like fluid level, brake, battery… etc. A month late, my car battery died. I could not start my car to work. AAA did a diagnostic test with a detail print out show battery was bad. Actually my five year old car is about time to change battery but the point is Master Tech failed to inspect and advice. Or they just claimed what they had done without doing it. The worst finding was before my next oil change due. I noticed my engine oil light went off occasionally on acceleration. On my oil change this time, my mechanic told me my oil level was way low, only about one quart oil drained out, but there is no sign of oil leak anywhere. So either Master Tech did not add enough oil or they add wrong oil grade. This will ruin my engine if I did not catch this on time. I will not recommend this shop to anyone from my personal experience.

If you want a honest mechanic this is the place. This small shop is very busy.
Why?
Because they are the best.
Honda, Nissan, Toyota and all the high end Japanese models.

I have a occasion strayed from Master Tech, but I always come back. Its worth the commute for their services. They been great to me and my vehicles for over 10 years.

When you have problem with your Car (Japanese car)… Let me tell you… come to Danny @ Master Tech.
I found his shop back then in 2007 when I need to do the timing belt replacement. I shop around and found that he gave me the cheapest price. That is the reason I let him do the job initially, but don’t get it wrong, he gave me the cheapest price AND outstanding performance.
I have no issue with the car afterwards and I always go to his shop for oil changing and ALL maintenance required on the car since then.
The most important part is that Danny tries to safe you some money. If he does not think the particular part needs to be replaced, he would NOT do it, instead he would try to fix it with his expertise and he would get it working at the lower cost for you, compared to if you are replacing the part.
That is GOLD!
I believe everyone would agree that it is hard to find a honest and trustworthy mechanic. Well, he is the one. You don’t need to worry being ripped off as you drop your car to his shop. He’ll get it done with the cheapest possible option.
Another service he offers is to drop you off to your office, or your house. He always drops me off for the car to be serviced, picks me up as the car is done.
Finally, if you need to replace your head light bulb, or any light bulb of your car with XENON kit white color bulbs, Danny also can do it!
I’ve just did it about a month ago. I planned to replace the car’s head lights, fog lights, rear light, license plate lights, dome lights… basically almost all of the possible bulb that can be replaced with white color bulb :)
As I bought the bulb online, I was about to return it as I figured out the instruction for replacing the bulb is quite a work. I give it a try and ask him, can you do it?
Voila… I got all my light bulbs replaced. I love the white bulbs. It is brighter and nicer I drive the car at night now.

I moved here from out of state and tried Master Tech after a co-​worker recommended them to me. Witt (the owner) really took the time to show me everything he was suggesting to do on my car, and also I just really felt like he was a trustworthy guy. Turns out he is the unofficial mechanic of my church — so many people go to him! A trustworthy mechanic is hard to find, but I do trust that Witt is not going rip me off and genuinely knows what he’s talking about. I’ve been going to him for two years for both of our family’s cars.

Danny is a great mechanic, and very reasonable to deal with. They don’t charge too much — always do a good job at a reasonable rate.
I would highly recommend anyone to bring their Japanese cars here. Have only had good experiences here. Have brought my car here 3 times already — 1 major fix, and 2 medium tune-​up fixups.

In 2002, I owned a Mitsubishi Eclipse. It was in need of service and because I was hesitant to go to the dealer, I found Master Tech in the Yellow Pages. Nine years, another car (Toyota Prius), and one move (66 miles away!) later, I am still going to Master Tech, because Witt is the best mechanic I have ever met. He is unfailingly honest and fair, and will not sell you any services and/​or products you do not need. Witt’s staff is friendly and incredibly skilled, plus they go above and beyond to make sure your car is in perfect condition. Everyone here works very quickly, but whenever my car needed work that would take more than a couple hours, Witt or a crew member would drive me home and pick me up when it was ready. I can’t think of many places that would do that.
Master Tech has a comfortable and well-​lit waiting room, but if you are waiting for your car and hungry, there are many places in the immediate area where you can eat. Carl’s Jr., Ajisen Ramen, Yogurtland, and Tommy’s are literally steps away from the shop. You will also find a number of other places across the street on the north side of Colima.
Finding a good mechanic in L.A. is like gold. You not only want to stick with them but you also want others to discover them. I truly cannot recommend Witt and Master Tech highly enough.
LOCATION NOTE: Master Tech is located in the center of the white, one-​story building just east of Carl’s Jr (which faces Colima) on the northwest corner of Colima and Fullerton. You will need to enter the driveway from Colima as if you were going to Carl’s Jr. but instead head left past the restaurant to reach the building.
JANUARY 2012 UPDATE: Master Tech now offers free Wi-​Fi! Ask for the password upon arrival.

I have been getting my oil changed and taking my car to Master Tech for years, even though I’ve moved out of the area, I still prefer to drive the distance to get work done there, it’s definitely worth it. Great, honest service every time and friendly staff. Highly recommend!!!

I usually do most of my own mechanic work, but if I don’t feel like doing it or simply don’t have the time, these are guy I go to. Prices are fair, they know what they are doing, honest, and good turn around time.
I sent my mother here for her power steering rack on her Toyota and they did a great job putting in a new unit, and the price was fair.
I wouldn’t hesitate to take a car to them for anything. Give them a shot if you like a place that does honest work at a fair price.
