The Service: If you have big party, it is better to make a reservation because they don’t have too many large tables. Service is efficient but not too attentive. If you need service, you have to get their attention. The Food: Potato Pancake — Always ordered kimchi pancake and seafood pancake at Korean restaurants so this time we wanted to try something different. The pancake is crispy at the edge. Because it is potato so not too much flavor. I think I still like kimchi pancake better. Marinated Porkbelly in wine sauce — OMG! If you like porkbelly, you will like this dish! They marinate the pork in the wine sauce, super flavorful!!! Love it~ Army stew(Potato with Pork) — We have tried the army stew with spam so this time we wanted to try pork. HUGE pieces of pork with bone so the broth is extra yummy. They put big pieces of potato and many other vegetables too. When we almost finished the food in the pot, we added ramen. If you still hungry, you can tell them to cook rice in the same pot… OMG! The rice is soaked in the broth… they are not plain boring rice anymore, very delicious! If you can’t finish all the ingredients in the pot but you still want to try the rice, tell them to put the leftover ingredient in the to-go box first. If you don’t, they will just throw away and just save a little broth to cook the rice. Spicy Rice Cake — The rice cake is cooked perfectly. Very soft and good texture. Love the sauce, just a little tiny bit spicy. Very tasty! Steam pork with kimchi & vegetable — You wrap the steamed pork & kimchi with cabbage. The cabbage is slightly cooked already. The cabbage is super sweet. Big pieces of pork too! Two thumbs up! The Parking: Plaza parking lot(Free) P. S. Unilocal check-in one FREE soda

Good food, good service. We are so happy to choose this place to hang out. We ordered combo A– Boo Dae Chee Gae, with makkoli. Boo Dae Chee Gae was so good, a bit cheesy for us, but don’t worry, they can add you more broth to your pot, and it made the soup taste so good to our taste. We will come back again to try Gamjatang soup…

One of the authentic ones not Americanized yet; no over use of oil. Dol sot bibimbap was legit. Definitely not fast food junk. Dumplings are stuffed pretty fat. Love it here. Hope they stay this way untainted… I think the other younger consumer complain about the price, but I think it’s cuz they don’t use short cut/substitute ingredients for the main dishes…

I don’t quite know what the mediocre reviews are for but this place is the best place for(pork bone stew). They don’t use as much MSG as other places and the owner(waitress Dambi’s mom) makes everything herself. It’s a nice family owned local restaurant that is respected by Koreans that appreciate legit Korean food. I’ve tried many different places, and have grown up in LA, but would drive 30 miles out of the way to eat here. And… So I do at least every other week, and get the same exact thing…

3.5 stars I came here for lunch with a friend and ordered budae jigae. We were both excited because it was our first time trying this dish. It was a good dish to share and it was nice having it boiling right at the table. The small could have easily fed up to 3 people, but we just took the leftovers home. In my opinion, it was just mediocre. There was nothing especially unique about it, and it was extremely expensive! Nearly $ 20 each from both of us including tax… The dish was good but not good enough to pay that price for it.

The potato soup is probably the best thing they have and the most known for. So delicious on cold days! Came here on my lunch break and service was pretty slow even though there was no one in there. Probably due to the lack of workers, but the food was still great!

Everything is so mediocre here. I think I gave this restaurant way too many chances. But, today is the last time I will ever return. Food: it’s either too salty with too much Msg or too bland. Even the simple dishes like bulgogi and bibimbap were just bad. Ingredients were not even fresh at all. My mom was way too nice to complain and stopped me from doing so. It’s just a shame. Service: no one smiles here. Severs look miserable. I feel bad even asking for any refills because I feel like I’m bothering them. I left here spending close to $ 50(with tip) for LUNCH and super unhappy. Ugh

GAm ja tang was tasty. Not like ktown tasty, but definitely can’t beat their lunch special prices for $ 7.99 since it comes with sides and rice. Their mini dried seaweed side was enticing… I ate so much -.- The main dish itself had tons of mini pork bones, and too many mini«purée» bits of meat and veggie at the bottom of the soup likely from the soup being cooked over and over again. The meat itself was tender and just the right amount of flavor. Soup was delicious with a perfect kick of spiciness. I’ll be coming back again to try their army stew. Note: The only employee working when we went had R.B.F. aka resting. b@@@@.face but just return the same look and she’ll be nicer :)

The best kimchi jigae and budae jigae! This is the place is you want to get your fill. Nice and spicy and all sorts of ingredients thrown into the pot. Perfect to share for I would say up to 4 people. I only ever come here with one of my Korean friends. The two of us shared a kimchi jigae pot and I took home a ton — enough for a very yummy breakfast the next day. just add water and boil! :) Kimchi jigae has a ton of kimchi with tofu and plenty of pieces of chopped pork! Also added mandu(dumplings) which was A+. Army stew budae jigae(I’m sure I’m spelling this wrong) has all my favorite random crap like ramen and spam with kimchi in this hot steaming pot of stew. It’s so satisfying.

I haven’t tried their budejjigae yet but their gamjatang is ok. I usually go here around lunch time for their lunch special(Mon — Fri 11 — 3) since I usually eat alone and I’m hungry after getting out of class. They had 5 banchans like 2 types of kongnamul-muchim, seaweed, kimchi, and fried tofu. My single portion of gamjatang($ 7.99) was ok but it was still tough and lots of little shard of bones in it. The broth had plenty of potatoes and chopped kimchi, kinda spicy but was boiling hot for a while. I actually know what lady other people are saying but she was nice to me. She wasn’t a smiley person but I’m like that too(*resting bitch faces unite* whoo!) She was talkative when she explained to me about the dipping sauce that they give with the gamjatang. Plus, she refilled my water and banchans as well. It’s next to a sign called Pink and Blue inside a small plaza.

It was really hard deciding to give this place a 4 star or a 3 star… but just because of my personal annoyance at the one waitress there for her attitude, everything else was great though, the food, the style of the restaurant, and the other waiter were all great! But damn, to the girl who sat us I don’t know who stuck a stick up your butt… The ambiance was nice, I liked that each table had its own little private area with walls separating the tables, it felt nice and private. We ordered the budae jigae(army stew) which I’ve been wanting to try because it looked so good! And I have some weird obsession with ramen, and the ddukbokki. I would give the budae jigae a 3/5, it was a good experience, and honestly I probably would order it again, but it’s not one of those things where I love love love it and it’s all I want to order at the restaurant. It was a good experience, it reminded me of high school/college life, where you threw anything and everything into a meal, and ramen and spicy ramen powder was always the perfect base LOL. It was definitely an adventurous meal, the slice of cheese was surprising… then finding random pasta noodles(rigatoni, penne noodles) in the stew was so amusing. Overall, it was filling and yummy. But I’m excited to see what else they have to offer, I’m definitely looking forward to trying new things here! ***Note: there are 2 sizes, Small & Large. They say a small feeds 2 – 3 people but we split between 4 and it was the perfect amount! Order a small stew along with another dish and you should be good to go! The ddukbokki was good too, the sauce was a bit too sweet for my taste, but my boyfriend and our friends liked it! I loved loved the side dishes here though! I’m usually really picky about side dishes and only a handful of places have good kimchi, and this is definitely one of them! And they have radish kimchi! I haven’t seen that anywhere in ages. The other waiter was really friendly, we were constantly asking for side dish refills and he always gladly got them for us, pat on the back for that guy! Another cool quirk about this place is the after dinner yakult treat! So. Awesome. Why can’t every place do this?! I’d rather have yakult over peppermint and fortune cookies any day. And they serve it partially frozen, slushy style. Bomb. I’ll be back, there’s so many things I want to try!

BEVERYOBSERVANTORYOUWILLMISSTHISPLACE. Located in a small plaza, it is near the back with a sign that isn’t particularly apparent to those not from Rowland. I actually missed this place and had to turn around to get back. Parking was easy to find since the plaza has a lot so didn’t need to worry about that. Walked in and was the 2nd table in there. My friend was already there and looking over the menu. After looking at the menu for LONG time, we decided on the Gam Ja Tang and the Dok Bok Ki. The banchan was somewhat minimal compared to other Korean restaurants. We got bean sprouts, fish cake, kim chi, fresh seaweed, and dried seaweed. The server first brought out the gam ja tang(pork bone and potato stew). The stew was a bit water-y for my taste. I’ve had it where it was thicker. It came with 2 pieces of potato and quite a bit of pork. I’d actually like more potato but I can’t complain about having more meat either. It also came with a sauce that I wasn’t aware about so we had to ask the server. Vinegar tasting that was supposed to accompany the soup. I used it dip my pork. Not sure if that’s right but it tasted good! I enjoyed it but it wasn’t particularly great. The dok bok ki was better than I have had. It came with a lot more sauce than I had expected but it was good in this case because the sauce allowed us to go back for more sauce to drench the dok. The flavor was more brine-y and had flavors of seaweed that I thoroughly enjoyed. What we also did was taking the fish cake banchan and adding them to the dok bok ki. The prices are reasonable. The service is acceptable. The place is very relaxing and chill. As a bonus, they give you a yogurt drink when they give you your check. We were there for about 2 hours and they weren’t particularly busy but maybe because it was a Tuesday. I would come back to try the boo dae ji gae.

I was so excited to try this place out because I’ve been craving cold noodle, but I was a little disappointed. It’s located in the plaza with the buildings that have the blue roofs.(Thank you for a picture of the outside of the restaurant). The service was good. We were seated right away and the waiter came and brought us water. The waiter was really nice and came by a couple times. Okay onto the food… the banchan was really good. It was beansprouts, kimchi, seaweed, dried seaweed, and fish cake. The dried seaweed was weird but tasty. Cold Noodle… I really wanted to like this but it was just okay. I probably ordered the wrong one, but I wanted a little bit more soup in it. They did give a lot of noodles though. The wine marinated pork belly was just okay too. It was a little dry and overcooked. The flavor was a little different, but good. The potato pancake was. well half of it was good and half was just slimy. I’m not sure how it’s suppose to be cooked, but I would’ve liked it a little more cooked and crispier. We ended up bringing half of it home so we can pan-fry it a little bit more. I do want to come back to try some of the other soups and the original cold noodle, but I don’t know about the potato pancake. Points for the yogurt drink at the end. It was very refreshing!

I have been here a couple times with friends and boyfriend. We were debating whether to come here or Gamjagol nearby but since Gamjagol was closed on that certain day, we came here. The inside of restaurant is not that big but theres enough tables for many people. We ordered theit Gamja Jungol for 7 of us. Its basically Gamjatang but it comes in a larger pot to serve more people I guess. They were pretty good! The meat was so tender it came right off from its bone and the soup tasted good as well. It wasnt too strong nor salty but had just the right amount of seasoning. Sometimes when you order a gamjatang from a restaurant that does not specialize gamjatang, it can have that weird pork smell for not cooking the right way. But this place didnt have any of that. The portion was pretty big and generous amount of meat in them. Even the potatoes inside the soup was soft and yummy. Also tried their Bbyuh Jjim and Boodae Jjigae and they were OK. I didnt really like the Bbyuh Jjim. It was hard to eat and I mean I figured it would have less meat because its Bbyuh meaning bones but it was just weird to me. I will stick to their Gamjatang. The lady working here is weird though. Heard she is the owner but she has no expression on her face and very dull. She always looks like shes going to knock out in any minute. To add, She always looks tired. I wish she would smile and talk to customers and treat them better. Shes not necessarily doing them any bad or anything but I can see why some customers can be questionable by her behavior.

This restaurant is definitely hidden. I missed it while driving around in the parking lot looking for the place. I’ve been here on two different occasions now, one with my best friend and her family and another with a friend. Based on the menu and what people typically order here, you can tell they’re known for their soups(although the depictions of their naengmyun look most excellent!). A lot of them are family-style. One big piping hot pot cooked on an individual stove to keep the soup warm. Gum Ja Jun Gol — A spicy boiled soup w/potatoes and pork ribs. The soup is littered with spices suitable for all the potatoes and pork being cooked in the soup. Although the soup is an alarming dark red, the spice level didn’t taste as spicy as it appeared. The pork meat was soft and tender, falling right off the bones. Just when you think that was it, the ajumma comes by at the end with a bowl of rice and mixes it with the remnants of the soup. What was just a piping hot pot of soup, is now a spicy fried rice. Genius! Boo Dae Chee Gae — AKA army stew. I was first introduced to army stew at Hashigo in Costa Mesa. It is pretty much a glorified version of shin ramyun. Their portion is really enough to serve a small army, so beware. The stew had rotini, spam, sausages, kimchi, tofu, and a medley of vegetables. The flavoring was much more lax than the gum ja gun gol but still hit the spot on a cold winter day. The service started off great, only because our waiter was much younger. They were having a special, the day we got the army stew, where each person got a free can of soda. While we started chowing down, the restaurant started to get packed and our waiter completely disappeared. We had to flag down a frazzled ajumma for a to-go box and our check. Typical!
