On Sat July 13th, 2013 we eagerly stopped at «ROYERS» upon reviews to eat, and while driving up to park there was this crusty olé grump standing halfway inside/outside the door with his arms crossed and glaring at us before even exiting our car. The 3 of us walked in and were seated at a less than ½ card size table. !!! My husband(a small guy) sat down in the chair and said he thought it was going to collapse and so I said trade out the chair next to you-so he did. Ok now here comes the best part of all !!! «The MENU» !!! We began looking and we each kept blinking our eyes like we needed magnifying glasses to make sure we were seeing the $$$$$$ before our eyes were correct and not a misprint. I don’t mind at all paying for a good steak but $ 55.00 get real. We all at that point had agreed to just leave and the waiter said«let me show you the lunch menu-which was dinner time actually– Haaaaaaaaa yeah right ! We didn’t even touch our glass of water in fear of what that might actually cost :/We calmly got up and left and the«OWNER» standing by the door with arms crossed again, didn’t even ask us why we were leaving(guess he used to it) if not then woohoo we are the first possibly to not be taken by the hoop-da-lah of this place– No siree will not be ever going back-EVER !!! We went down the road a piece and ate at K-Bobs and all 3 of us ate for $ 30.00 and it was great food. There is not one steak on this earth worth $ 55.00 sir. I buy grass fed beef and the tenderloin and has not ever cost me $ 55.00 for one steak-Get real. If you are a sap sucker for buying into the ambiance of dark and yuk-go for it its just the place for you. I only rated a 1 star because I had to to post my review !

If I was being taken away to prison and could have one last meal, it would be at Royer’s Round Top Café! I have never had a bad meal there. In fact, never had a mediocre meal there either! It’s always the kind of meal you can’t stop eating and you wish you wore your stretchy pants! And to top it off, best darn pie I have had!(Sorry Grandma! ;) Love everyone who works there and Bud has a special place in my heart! LOVEROYER’S!!!

You will not find a better steak or pie… not even in Texas. The Awesome Steak is truly AWESOME. I am somewhat of a purist when it comes to steaks and generally prefer them with minimal seasoning. However, the sauce on this steak makes it mouth-watering, The personality of the restaurant and owning family round out the experience. This place and people are definitely worth the drive from anywhere.

This might be a good place to eat if it weren’t for the fact the owner is one of the rudest people I’ve ever met & thinks he’s God’s gift to Round Top, Texas!

The food here is some of the best in Round Top. I have been coming to Round Top for the last 22 seasons of antique shows in Round Top selling antique maps, old prints and original art at Blue Hills antique show as well as at Marburger Farms( …) and have met hundreds of customers that love food at Royers as well. Make a reservation.

Wow! As Texas cliché as it gets but it is done well… And, Bud will remember your name/face and get you a table(even if waiting for 2hours on a Sunday with 100 other patrons) — prepare to sit with others family style… they fill the place and sit you where ever they can(tip — call ahead with a group and they’ll acoomodate that group). While waiting, a few of the galleries/shops are worth perusing. The food is a cross between comfort food meets upscale — We had the tenderloin which is tender and juicy and the shrimp-stuffed quail which is the best quail I’ve ever had… totally unexpected(we went for the legendary pies). Of course, no trip home is complete without a pie; we were too full for desert afterwards but took a whole pie to go – the legendary chocolate chip pie is great but try the others too, they looked fantastic. Great experience, funky/quirky and only in rural Texas!!! A great day trip from Austin or SA or Houston(only an hour east of Austin between 290 and Hwy 71… or 1hr 25min west of Houston). We’ll grab some friends, call ahead and do a Fri night or Sat night next time and make it a mini-road trip! A must do for anyone who considers themself a Texan(just like floating the Guadalupe, eating fried food at the State Fair or jumping in Barton Springs).

The market’s motto is: «Come for the antiques, stay for the atmosphere,»… I add to that: Don’t forget about the food! It seems that twice a year during Spring/Fall, I accept my lot in life to become an Antique Weekend Sherpa or mule to carry, tote, haul, and bargain for unique antiques that pry my wife’s attention, but as with any expedition or quest there is a reward for every trip… and that is the food at Royers Round Top Café(Zapp Hall). All of the food is excellent, and you should not expect otherwise when you know that Bud is behind the menu. My reward of choice? Simple, I enjoy the simplicity of the«Texas Caviar» on any day. It is a simple recipe that requires great seasons, mixing and a good marinade. Their recipe: Black-eyed peas, bell pepper, onions, Tabasco sauce, and seasonings … they list it as an appetizer, but I prefer it most as a meal for a mental energy boost to continue the expedition through the shops, tents, and reserved booths. To compliment their Texas Caviar I add to that a frosty beverage or a nice home made lemonade made right on the spot, whichever your choice you can’t go wrong. So the next time your expedition and travels bring you to the Spring or Fall Antiques Show in Warrenton, Texas. do not fret about if the trinkets and relics are not your thing, or that you can’t find what you were looking for; just direct your way to the shady grove area of Zapp Hall for some great food, relaxed atmosphere and the pride in knowing that Royer’s Round Top Café at Zapp Hall will be the best thing that you DO find. ~ Enjoy ! (As a note, Bud has a few personal appearances there… mostly to serve his famous pie on selected days of the Antique festival.)
