That place was nasty and the food was gross. My steak tacos looked like chorizo tacos. The only reason I ate was because I was hungry! Never again will I go there… I feel like sticking my finger down my throat and throwing it all up. the service was horrible the girl gave us our food 5 – 6 mins apart. HORRIBLE! !!!’

Ay yi yi, I had such high hopes for this little taqueria. I love a little dive off the beaten path that doesn’t look like much but really delivers the goods. Sadly, it did not deliver on taste. The only other two reviews spoke highly of the carnitas and the steak tacos. And I agree that’s a great place to start, particularly if your establishment has«carnitas» in its name. I love carnitas, in fact, I’m hard pressed to think of ever having had bad carnitas– ever. Until tonight. I’m sorry to say this, but what a disappointment! These carnitas were dry and with very little flavor. How do you dry out carnitas? I don’t get it. Marbled pork, slow braised, nicely seasoned, usually stewing in its own juices… this is the fabulousness of carnitas that I have grown to love over at least 2 decades. Seriously, how do you muck it all up with an end result of DRY meat? I was flummoxed! In addition to the carnitas, we tried the steak tacos, and enchiladas suizas, both accompanied by rice and refried beans. The steak was okay but nothing special. I was happy to see the onions and cilantro options instead of lettuce, cheese and sour cream. That’s just a personal preference. The rice and beans were average, and all portions were what one would expect, adequate. The enchiladas suizas tasted allright, but I know my husband chose two kinds of meat, one in each, but I’ll be damned if I could discern the difference of either, and I don’t know why there was a red sauce instead of a white, as one would expect on suizas. The horchata was yummy though! The service was super friendly and fast and the interior was surprisingly more warm and inviting than anticipated from the exterior. I understand they have barbacoa on the weekends only, and the ball and chain wants to give that a try, so I guess we will begrudgingly return to check it out but i am not expecting much. Their prices are extremely inexpensive, and whilst I’m very appreciative of that in this economy, it can not make up for the disappointing food. Perhaps they are a hit-and-miss kind of place, or it was a slow night(only 1 other person made an appearance at 6:30 on a Friday night). But so far, it’s a miss for me, and a trip to Chipotle to satisfy my carnitas craving. Yup, you heard that right.

I don’t think I can ever move too far away because this place is a little piece of Heaven! I have eaten lots and lots of Mexican food in my time(I’m from Chicago, lived 8 years in Texas and have been to Mexico 4 times). If you’ve ever been to Mexico then you know about the street taco vendors. They usually sell 2 or 3 tacos for a BUCK! They are authentic and delicious! Carnitas Don Roy is what Mexico tastes like! I like the basics, so I usually go for tacos! You can tell a lot about a place based solely on their tacos. Their carnitas is soooooooo good, the steak tacos are the most flavorful tacos I’ve ever eaten and the chicken tacos have an out of this world flavor! This place is also wonderful because of the friendly service! The woman who primarily runs the place is part owner, so she cares about service more than some random employee might. She is PERFECTLY fluent in English and Spanish and is very, very friendly. The prices here are a bit lower than you would expect for such quality food! Their enchiladas suisas are great too! The salsa verde here is my favorite! I cannot have a taco without it! If you are ever driving by, or even if you live clear across town, this place is WORTHSTOPPING! The meat is authentic, but they also offer«American style» tacos(with only lettuce, tomato, cheese and sour cream) for those of you who do not care much for«onion and cilantro». Come and enjoy an inexpensive and high quality authentic Mexican meal!

Having moved down to this area of the world about 9 months ago, I have been trying to find places that would be just like the ones I had back home in the El Paso /Juarez area. You know the places. The ones that are your go to’s(and might be off the beaten path) when you want something that is just good and merit the drive. Well I had been hunkering for some carnitas(some real carnitas that have that brown coating you can only get from preparing them authentically). So there i am drving by and i spot something out of the corner of my eye. Hmmm… chicharrones on the window. What the heck, the wife and I needed lunch and we had tried various Mexican joints in the area. This would just be another to our list. Well we walked in and were greeted with an «Hola» and we sat down. The place is small but then again, i dont think they expect to have 100 people show up to eat. We were brought tostadas, salsas, and a menu. The menu is no frills with standard Mexican fare, however i wanted one thing and one thing only… CARNITAS. I asked for the half order(dine in only) and they asked if i wanted pure carnitas or ‘mixed’. She explained that mixed had buche(pork stomach), and cuerito(pork skin) so i opted for the mixed(yes, that is how i roll… hahaha). My wife went with the«Asada» torta. Well our order arrived and my carnitas were what i had envisioned in my mind. They also brought me warm corn tortillas, some more salsas, limes and diced cilantro and onions. My carnitas had that nice look of being authentic carnitas from michoacan. The taste… superb…tender beyond belief. The buche and cuerito were superb as well. My wifes plate was also generous and plenty good. Ok, the torta was huge. She had a tough time finishing it off, but it was that good that she made the effort. All in all a great place to eat. I have been back twice(once took my compadres who have lived in the area for 5 years now and they agreed it was the best carnitas they have had since they moved down here as well). I paid cash so dont know if CC are accepted. Drinks are standard fare with the addition of Mexican coke, aguas frescas(Jaimaca — hibiscus — hit the spot). I will definately go again and do recommend it.
