Metro Self Storage

Due to my downsizing a couple of years back, I needed a safe place close to me where I could store my stuff. Metro was the best place I found. They are clean, friendly and any issues I had (my door not opening; stuck) were handled right away.

I got a call from Metro a couple of days after posting my generally unfavorable review, and they wanted take care of my problems. They told me their maintenance guy looked at the roof a couple of months ago, and he would look at it again. The site manager took a look too, to try and determine where the water was getting in. Not sure what the maintenance guy did but it poured like crazy this morning and my unit stayed dry. Also regarding the frozen-​shut door in winter, they found a south-​facing unit for me (which should be less susceptible to freeze up) if I can get up the time and energy to move all my stuff to it. So in conclusion I’ll give them credit for working with me to fix my problems and I have raised my rating. Still not thrilled to be paying more per square foot for an unheated shed with no electricity, plumbing, etc. than you would pay for a 2 bedroom 2 bath condo around here with a 1-​car garage that’s twice the size of my storage unit! — do the math — $ 1150/​mo for a 1400 sq ft condo = $.82 per sq ft per month, not even counting the garage. $ 96/​mo for 100 sq ft storage unit = $.96 per sq ft. That’s 17% more per square foot for the storage unit than for the condo. Go figure. The website says $ 105/​mo so I guess I’m getting a deal at a mere $ 96. Unfortunately it’s all set by what the market will bear so all the storage unit places charge roughly the same. Somebody’s making a lot of money off of all our «good» junk, folks! Time for a garage sale! :-)

I have been a renter off and on now with Metro for almost 7 years! I am currently in Arizona and have NO problems trusting my belongings there !!! The staff are super helpful and very nice !!! I have had not one problem or issue in this entire time. I would highly recommend them to anyone and everyone ! John is awesome always has a smile and very helpful !

ZERO STARS! even negative stars if I could… I had been a loyal renter at this place for over 15 years… Under this NEW management I couldn’t get my stuff out of there fast enough… The prices are RIDICULOUS considering you can’t always get to your stuff and forget about getting anything for DAYS after a snow storm, because when they finally get around to plowing they leave so MUCH snow in front of your door you can’t get in without shoveling it out yourself… The people are rude and completely useless, a VERY dangerous combination for storing your valuables… Their security is a joke! They had CUT wires hanging out of their CC Cameras for years… And DON’T be surprised to find a truck or trailer making it impossible to get to your unit, it seems they’ll let their landscaper clients park ANYWHERE… The grounds are ALWAYS filthy with trash… AVOID this place at ALL costs, theirs a storage place nearby that’s run the way a Storage Facility should be run (across from NORTH Grayslake School)
