Jo-Ann Fabrics & Crafts

This is my one stop shop for my business. Great selection of fabrics. Staff are always extremely nice and helpful to me and my service dog, and always remember us which makes shopping more fun. (although corporate needs to get them more staff hours, poor things are always trying to keep up and its not possible with so few employees on hand)

My wife wanted to get a pattern to make a dragon costume for our new miniature dachshund puppy. I’ve been to this store many times before, this one is quite small compared to others in the area. The staff is friendly and helpful, the store is clean and organized, just small. They do have one person that says, «Hello, welcome to joanns» every time someone walks in, it gets urinating after a while when you’re shopping. I wish she would say something different to mix it up.

I need to preface this review by saying that I’m not a big fabric or DIY person. I’m a girl with a giftcard, trying to make something that I saw on Pinterest (it’s OK, you can roll your eyes).
I spent entirely too long in this store only because I could not make up my mind. I went straight to the type of fabric I was looking for and actually appreciated that I wasn’t hounded by sales associates asking me if I was finding everything OK. There were plenty of employees around who looked pleasant, so had I needed help, I would have asked. When I finally did make my fabric decisions, the gal who cut it for me was super nice, which apparently is not the experience that some of the other reviewers had. While I was perusing the fabric, a number of other customers came in with very specific questions and the employees seemed very happy to answer them and physically guide them to what they were looking for. So, maybe I just happened to be there on one of those random days where everyone was in a good mood.
By the time I was ready to purchase my fabric, the line was pretty long, but my purchase cost less than I anticipated for some reason. In any case, I was on my merry way with a pleasant experience. I’ll be back if I ever need fabric again for random projects I come up with.
(And yes, my Pinterest project actually DID turn out. Phew!)

80% of the people who work here are super rude. They don’t go out of their way to help you and make things complicated by not letting you look at other merchandise while cutting your fabrics for no obvious reason. One person will tell you that you can double up a certain coupons while other employees will not let you. I definitely don’t recommend going to this location.

Visited this store for the first time. Poor store cleanliness. Customer service was awful. Once I found all the stuff I needed, proceeded to the front to find no cashier. Had to push a button to get someone to come to the front. They claim they take smart phone coupons, but they don’t scan it, so you have to read off the number. Had my coupon in the car, was told they won’t honor it later. Ended up returning my merchandise. Will not be back.

The one star rating is for the company in general, not this particular store. Poor quality fabrics, never ever buy their flannel. I don’t think it could be any cheaper quality. The whole fabric line is poor, customer service on the Joann’s website is non-​existent. They do not respond to problems. If you’re looking for cottons, go to one of the specialty quilt shops in the area. For other fabrics, you’re better off buying on-​line from elsewhere.

Fabric is, sadly, more or less my entire life. And my entire life would suck a lot more if it were not for the freaking awesome staff of the Round Lake and McHenry Joann Fabrics stores.
I can almost always find everything I need at one of the two, and can easily special order everything as well.

Pretty good selection of materials in this store.
Staff will not offer much assistance on their own. If you like uninterrupted ability to roam, this place is great.
If you want assistance, you’d better ask. Otherwise, you will still be there when they close.
Prices, hard to say for me as I’m not in these places often enough to know better. But since they had what I needed, they get 4 stars.
