MC23 Salon

I was the highest bidder for a gift certificate for MC23 salon at our school auction last spring. I tried twice in the fall to make an appointment, but there was no availability that coincided with my busy work schedule. I pulled out the certificate yesterday to see if I could make an appointment, and realized that it expired on Jan 1 (10 days prior). I kindly asked if they would still honor the gift certificate, and was told they would only honor half. So in addition to $ 185 I paid to the school for the certificate, I now need to pay an additional $ 87 to use it. It costs them nothing to honor the certificate. So much for supporting their community.

I REALLY wanted to love this salon because it’s one of our small town businesses and so close to where we live. Unfortunately I’ve given MC23 stylists two tries now and both have been really disappointing. The first time my low lights (supposed to be blonde) turned out brassy and orange. Apparently, this stylist is no longer there. And the second time my blonde highlights were so uneven I had terrible roots immediately after leaving the salon. I’ve been getting highlights for a long time mostly in SF and as much as I wanted to, I wouldn’t recommend this salon to anyone looking for really high quality, great color. Especially for blondes…

Ask for Kimberly she is amazing! I live in Napa and I have been following Kimberly from Fairfield to San Francisco to now Ross at MC23 which is a beautiful salon btw, and I couldn’t imagine going to anybody else. She cuts and styles my hair exactly as I describe, I have long hair and she layers it beautifully while protecting my length and I end up getting compliments that my hair looks like a disney princess I love it! She is also a beyond FABULOUS COLORIST, I will never let anybody else color my hair she matched a photo I showed her perfectly, the color couldn’t be more on point, I cant tell you how many compliments I get DAILY after Kimberly does my hair. They also have a wonderful smelling product line called ORIBE and other salons have definitely disappointed me in the smell factor, not MC23 though! If you like getting told how great your hair looks do yourself a favor go see Kimberly at MC23!

Not only do I go to MC23 for my hair color and cut, but we also used them last month to do our wedding hair and make-​up for two brides plus our bridal parties. Kimberly is my regular hair stylist and colorist and always does an amazing job and is super sweet.
Kimberly and Hollie as a pair did a fantastic job at our wedding and our bridesmaids all loved their hair and makeup. My wife and I absolutely loved our hair and makeup and received so many compliments about how great we looked. What was also impressive is how Hollie really took charge when it started getting hectic in the hair/​dressing room with the venders and our bridal party coming in and out. She suggested that we have some privacy which totally helped us calm our nerves and was exactly what we needed right then. She read our energy very well and went above and beyond like that all day. These ladies are the BEST and we would highly recommend to anyone!

MC23 is a very nice high end salon. The service is top notch and the product lines sold are awesome — I love Oribe and they also carry Kerastase’. Everyone that works there is so friendly. I would give the salon 6 stars if I could :)
I see Kelli — if you want great color — give her a call. My highlights have been exactly what I want every time — and I am always changing things up. I always leave excited to show off my new color when I leave from a visit with Kelli.
Over the weekend I had a Keratin Smoother done by Kelli and WOW — I love it… my hair is so smooth — soft — shiny! I actually washed my hair, blow dried in under 15 minutes and did not even plug in my flat iron AND my hair looks like i just left the salon. I could not ve happier! If you have a little frizz you can’t control CALL Kelli and get the Keratin smoother done — so worth it!

I followed my stylist, Kelli Lynne, to MC23 Salon. The salon is very cute, cool and clean interior, professional, and friendly. I am consistently happy with Kelli’s work– full and partial blonde highlights. She takes care of my damaged pieces, and adds lowlights, etc. I would highly recommend Kelli to anyone looking for beachy blonde highlights!

I have been looking for a new stylist and when I saw their living social add I decided to try MC23. I am so glad I did. Hollie gave me the perfect cut! I knew what I wanted but I was also looking for her expertise. I have thick wavy hair and she knew exactly what I needed. Thank you Hollie. I will definitely be back.

Kimberly is amazing. She took me from very long hair to a super short, sassy, and stylish pixie. She spent so much time with me talking about the cut beforehand to make sure I would be happy and that we were on the same page. I brought several photos of haircuts, and she helped me figure out which would look best on me. Her color skills are great. I had long hair my whole life… and I am LOVING my new pixie. Oh, my, I feel like I’ve been searching for Holly my whole life! She is an exceptional stylist and colorist and just an amazing person to speak with. This weekend was the first time I ever left a salon chair and loved, loved, loved my hair. People on the street have been asking me where I got it done and I feel like I’ve been speaking about Holly more then my husband. :-) Seriously, I could not imagine going to another Stylist. Holly, thank you, thank you, thank you! You’re the best!

I found this place on Living Social and gave it a try. My stylist was very sweet and had some really good highlighting technique. Even though the deal was only for highlights, she put in some low lights, too. Beautiful quality highlights! And her cut technique was amazing– my hair cut was definitely my favorite part. However, she made my low lights way too orange and my highlights really white. My hair felt especially dry and crispy (I’ve had the same hair for years now so I’m not new to the process). At other salons, it did not feel this way. I think they might use really cheap products for the Living Social deals, which is NOT the fault of the stylist. It’s the fault of the salon. The stylist was super nice and sent me home with several expensive salon samples.
I came back for a fix it session and the stylist was fantastic. She put a tint in my hair and it looked awesome when I left. I went home and washed it a few days later with expensive color safe, sulfate free shampoo/​conditioner. It washed nearly ALL the tint out of my hair! This leads me to believe that the tint product they used was really cheap as well. My highlights look really orange and white again and my hair is drier than ever. Although I loved my stylist and she had great technique, I would never pay full price for this place.

I’ve just moved to Marin so was looking for a new hair stylist and found a great deal on Living Social to try out this highly rated salon. I went with the partial highlights, cut and blow dry and was so lucky to get an appointment with Holly.
I’m usually quite picky when it comes to hair but this has been a fantastic experience and Holly did an awesome job. My hair is very fine and I have a volume issue — she got me some great color and new cut in it that makes it look perfect. I’m so in love with it!
The salon itself is super pretty, great mix of modern and natural elements, brick stone walls, open ceiling, big mirrors, etc. The products they use are all top notch and I left with super fresh, shiny and basically «new» hair.
They’re on the pricey side, not surprising in this location, so I might not be able to get the full package every time but Holly will be my person of trust when it comes to my next hair cut. And I might occasionally spoil myself with color as its so pretty.
I didn’t gave her a lot of directions, just some general feeling I was hoping to get and she immediately got it and sent me off with a hair cut that is easy to maintain while looking natural and elegant.
Highly recommend this place! if you’re hesitant, test it out with the Living Social deal. Its basically a 50% offer.

Treat yourself to some highlights and a cut with Kelli – especially if you want some awesome bangs. She’s A+++.

Holly is the BEST stylist ever! I have very fine, naturally curly hair which is also a very dark brown. I’ve been getting highlights for over 20 years and have never been totally satisfied– it was always either too brassy, too light or just «off» regardless of how many top salons I’ve been to in both Chicago where I’m from or San Francisco– soooo frustrating!
However, shortly after moving to Marin I found MC23 Salon via a Living Social deal and am SO glad! I saw Holly and haven’t been to another stylist since. She nailed my color (buttery highlights) the first time which never happens to me and layered my very curly hair just right so it hangs perfectly either air dried or blown dried straight.
Plus, she’s just so personable as is Christy, the salon owner. This place ROCKS and you can’t go wrong with Holly. She’s AMAZING and I am VERY hard to please!

Kelli is an amazing and professional stylist/​colorist. I came in with a specific look I wanted to achieve and she was able to create it for me without hesitation. She was friendly and cheerful while working efficiently and accommodating my schedule on a Saturday morning. I would highly recommend her for all your hair needs. An added bonus is that I have gotten more compliments on my Haircolor that she created than any other color job I’ve had.

The absolute BEST haircut and service I’ve ever received at a salon. I highly suggest Kimberly. She’s very knowledgeable, highly skilled and explained everything she was doing. I learned more about my hair in the hour that I was there than I’ve learned. I can’t wait to go back!

Holly is lovely… so I have hesitated writing this review… but after reading several other remarks I need to also comment. She cut my hair twice a few months back and I am still trying to grow out the uneven layers and holes in my simple bob… A mess. Only about and inch to go. Too bad, I liked her but her technique does not match her suggestions.

I came to MC23 by the recommendation of a friend who always looks wonderful. I have a stylist in the city that I love but don’t love her color so much. So, I made an appointment with Hollie for a color. It turned out perfect– perfect shade of blonde, which is hard to do. A few months later I called to get a cut with her and when our schedules didn’t line up I saw Kimberly. The cut was exactly what I wanted and she was super friendly and very welcoming. This past week I went back to get another color from Hollie and decided last minute to drastically cut my hair. They were accommodating and lovely. AND MY HAIR IS PERFECT. I asked for light blonde, no brass, short cut. Hollie was attentive and a perfectionist. I couldn’t be happier and feel better than I have in a long time. Bottom line– this salon is a gem, all around.

I debated on writing this review for a while. I decided to come to this salon after I graduated beauty school and got my cosmetology license. I saw Holly, who was very sweet and nice. I wanted a new haircut transformation that would make me feel more professional as a new stylist. After going home and really checking out my new cut, I realized she had cut a hole in my haircut! I was very disappointed. It was awkward and unflattering. She started thinning my hair out so it wasn’t so bulky and that’s when she most likely gave me a huge hole. It’s been almost 4 months and it’s still a horrible haircut! I would be more okay with it, if it were a $ 40 haircut. But it was $ 100(just for the cut!) SO NOT WORTH IT! Overpriced and very disappointed with my experience. Sucks growing out a crappy haircut when I work in a salon myself:(

Kimberly is not only smart and super talented both as a colorist and overall stylist — she is also incredibly sweet, fun/​easy to work with and and attentive to individual wishes. I recommend her hands down! The whole experience from booking through to check-​in, color, cut and styling was Top.

MC23 Salon is the ultimate experience in quality, sophistication and customer service. The location and environment are conducive to relaxation and enjoyment. The minute you walk in the door, you will feel completely taken care of.
Christy is an amazing colorist, the best I’ve ever found. She takes the time to explore options to achieve the best results. Her talented approach to coloring and highlights leave my hair looking sophisticated, yet very natural. I walk out feeling like a million dollars, refreshed, bright and energetic!
I highly recommend all the services at MC23. You must experience this place, you will not be disappointed… ever!
