Matthew Korn Architecture

We used Matt a few years ago for the renovation of our new home and again recently for some additions. Matt was recommended to us by a few friends who used him on similar projects. We had seen his work and were attracted by his designs. His initial concepts were right on the money and he transformed a small 60 year old shack into our dream home.
But the reason I recommend Matt is not so much his designs (he really does some beautiful work) but his hands-​on approach. He was very involved throughout the entire process and we always felt we had an advocate looking out for us until the end, even after he was fully paid. It is clear Matt loves what he does and gets very involved in making sure the project is done right and his clients are taken care of. Yes there were times it was hard to get him on the phone as one of the other reviewers complained about; I think he spreads himself thin due in part because he is so hands-​on, but our experience was anything but bad. He was there when we needed him, far beyond our expectations, and continues to be a resource anytime we have a question or need a referral.

Just the worst possible experience. I am not surprised to hear others praise Matt’s creativity and design work — we were pleased with that aspect of the job as well. But Matt’s budget estimates were so far from accurate; he didn’t honor a single deadline on our project, and when the job hit snags — he was difficult to reach and largely unresponsive. We felt we had been prioritized below other jobs — likely those where we hadn’t already collected 75% or more of his fees.

Matthew Korn was my Architecht PLUS on my house in Oyster Bay Cove. I say plus because he not only designed my home and provided wonderful plans but he was integrally involved in the construction and interior trim design. Matt and his entire team greatly exceeded my expectations and continually over delivered. Their level of detail cannot be described in words and is better suited for the pictures of the gorgeous projects they have been responsible for.
I have and will continue to recommend him to friends and family many of which who used him and were more than pleased.
Matt and his entire staff gave us a beautiful home. If you need an architect he’s your guy. Feel free to message me and you can come see his work first hand to gain appreciation for what an architectural firm of this level can do to make your property into a first rate home

I am writing this post as a response to the two negative reviews on this site. It goes without saying that construction projects can be stressful and often leave people scorned with their construction vendors — I would be interested to read the reviews these two people left on their contractors page! Everything on the internet must be taken with a grain of salt — including this post — but I offer a different point of view on working with Matthew Korn.
From the first moment my wife and I worked with Matthew, creativity and craft came first. We met with multiple Architects before awarding to Matthew and found their offering to be generic and uninspired. Maybe we just met with the wrong people, but in contrast to Matthew it was night and day. In the great room of his building there is a gallery of categorically unique, and loved artistic renderings of homes he has designed. Our home was designed from scratch, and no detail was overlooked. I work in a creative industry and have very high expectations and standards as they relate to design — and Matthew’s genius was evident from day 1.
As far as his ‘checking out’ after payment was made, I would also offer a different perspective on that. Matthew was there at scheduled walkthroughs, and ARB presentations. He also connected me with an incredible landscape designer and was very generous with his time, connections and experience.
In the end my family has a house we absolutely love. Hate seeing good, talented people trolled on the web and I stand by this 5 star review wholeheartedly.

I did construction in the Roslyn area within the past couple of years and worked with Matt Korn on my job. The plans were beautiful, the design and layout were great. But nothing from Matt was on time, the budgets were pretty much a joke, we were cajoled into working with «his people» who clearly seemed to have his interest at heart; and Matt was impossible to work with once he had our check. Without actually saying so directly, at one tense moment during the project it felt like he was «daring» us to mess with him or his people.
Upon additional research in speaking to others in the community, it appears that we were not alone in being sucked in my the upfront pitch only to be disappointed (or worse) as the job progressed. This guy seems to act like the building inspectors work for him and that he’s doing customers a favor by working on their projects. Not sure how he stays in business.
Warning to all: If you use Korn, don’t say you were warned!
