Specialties
Another Time Soda Fountain & Café is an old time soda fountain with soda jerks that serve fountain drinks the old fashioned way and real ice cream sodas. We also have 1 lb. banana splits and phosphates that date back to the depression era. We serve Blue Bell ice cream in many flavors. Not only do we have old fashioned ice cream but we also have daily blue plate specials. All from recipes of the past. We also have burgers that are handmade daily. We buy daily from a local meat market so all the meat is fresh.
History
Established in 2003.
Another Time Soda Fountain & Café is located in what was previously The Meyer-Foster-Mulcahy Building which was constructed in 1910 by The Land and Loan Company. Pickard and Huggins bought the building some time around 1911. Even at that time, the building housed a pharmacy and a soda fountain.
Patents for the soda fountain can be traced back to the early 1800s. Yet, it was the marriage of the drugstore and soda fountain of the early 1900s that gave birth to the American soda fountain. By the early 1920s, most drugstores had a soda fountain. Soda fountains exploded in popularity largely due to Prohibition which began in 1919, and the local soda fountain, which often also offered ice cream and sundaes, filled the social void that was created in neighborhoods when bars were closed. Soda fountains began to decline in the 1950s and 1960s with the advent of bottled and canned carbonated beverages.
