I recommend this place to everyone that asks me for a reliable and honest mechanic. I live far, but I still go there to take care of anything that costs more than an oil change.

my dad used to take his cars here, so now I take my cars. freeman is very honest and never recommends work that doesn’t need to be done. I once insisted that I needed new brakes since that’s what another mechanic advised but then it ended up that I just needed an alignment. I also got my door handle fixed. they charged me half what the dealership quoted.

This guy is my mom’s homie since gas was 80 cents. It is hard to find a good mechanic. Most of the ones my friends have experienced go something like this… They go in for 1 problem, and then a week later, they have to go in for another problem, and this cycle goes on. I swear it is from the mechanics sabotaging their cars! But you won’t have this problem here at Upstar. I trust that they’ll not only give me the best price, but provide the best service for my car. They also have free goodies and free coupons if you’re a continous customer :)
I’ve been here in the past for everything. ranging from an oil change, a synthetic oil change, tire change, a water tank replacement, a full car check to make sure everything is good etc. Whatever you need, this is your man!
I suggest walking to the Square supermarket and perusing around if you have to wait there for long!

I really liked you guys. My friend recommended me to come here for my car needs a few years ago, and I was completely happy bc finally we found a place we can go to for all our car needs. I also told people how wonderful your service is. or was. It was no bs honest business with you guys, and I felt the trust which is hard to come around. However, this all changed when I needed your help today. I came in asking for a price quote for a replacement for my front car windshield, and right off the bat the dude came off very rude and said it will take all day if not a couple of hours bc after installation it needs to dry. OK. Great. I asked again so how much will it be, and I wanted the original manufactured piece. Then he goes and and says why do I want to order the original… and that I’m being extravagant and overboard. He made me feel like it was a ridiculous request, but then proceeded to ask me for my car info. I gave it to him he made a phone call and I heard he was talking about my car situation with someone and somehow that conversation went on a tangent about something else and he clicked onto the other line and talked some more. Then after he hung up, more words were exchanged he said if I was still adamant about ordering the original part making me sound like some sort of fool. OK… why the heck would i change my mind? Well, excuse me your highness for my «unreasonable» request. I was very upset at that point. I asked him once more how much will it cost and instead of just giving me a price. he asked for my car’s vin number… I was thinking what was the phone conversation earlier for then. Do I look like I don’t know what is going on? Thank you for your previous services, and I appreciate it… BUT what happened to you guys?

Some people get a bad rap. Politicians, Car Salesmen, Mechanics… etc. Not all are bad, but finding a honest person now a days to do anything for you is a rarity. I’ve been patronizing Upstar for over 15 years now and have really no complaints whatsoever! I know, you need to call them to find out if your car is ready. blah, blah, blah. Their «customer» service is lacking a bit, but again, I would rather take honesty over expediency any day!
I owned a ’95 4 Runner and thought my transmission was going out, I took it to Upstar and talked to Freeman about it. It took about a day and it was only my mounts that needed to be replaced, only $ 150! If I would have taken it elsewhere, I could have been ripped off by them saying that it was my transmission!
Brought my own ceramic pads for front and rear brakes, had them replace the brake pads and oil change for my ’05 Infiniti G35. $ 104, dealer would’ve jammed me for triple!
If you want customer service and are willing to pay for it, take your car to the dealer and get soaked! My Chinese friends here at Upstar can take care of my car any day!

Been coming here for work on our cars since i was a kid. My dad used to always use this place and i have ever since too. I trust them and they havent steered me wrong yet. I recommend.

Like many reviewers, I bring my car here because my parents brought their cars here for years (that saids a lot right there) and now me and my siblings all use them for EVERYTHING related to our cars. I trust them not to rip me off. The prices here vs the prices at a dealer is night and day.

I was looking around to find a place that would help change my timing belt for a decent price since my mileage was over 100k. As a person who doesn’t know much about cars, I decided to Unilocal an autoshop that was located in my area. I found this place and decided to bring my car in. I made a horrible mistake. I was told my car repairs would be done by the end of the day since I brought it in at 8am. I was annoyed when they called and told me that they barely got my parts and that it would not be done until the next day. The next day came along and I called again and they were still not done! I finally decided to just come in to check on my car. I was really annoyed that they did not even bother to let me know that my repairs were done. I would have waited another day! Not only that, they even tried to overcharge me. I will not be returning here for future repairs.
I DO NOT recommend this place if you want to do major repairs. Very pricey and repairs takes forever to get done.

Ask the mechanic there and he called me back to me minor tune up would be enough

WOW! I WOULD GIVE THEM 10 STARS IF THIS ALOUD. If you have time… let me tell you a short story…
My front left tire was making a noise. I went to three place for advise. Goodyear tire, Meineke, and my own dealership. Each place quoted me over $ 2000 worth of repairs… BUT THEY EACH THOUGHT THE PROBLEM WAS SOMETHING DIFFERENT! Imagine how upset I was thinking all these experts could not determine my problem, but somehow each one had quoted me over $ 2000 in repairs !!!
I later went to Upstar Auto (2435 San Gabriel Blvd Rosemead, CA 91 770). Small and not name brand but highly recommended on Unilocal. These guys are SO TRUSTWORTHY and SO CHEAP! THey will tell you the truth and whether or not you even need repair.
Upstar Auto told me repairs MIGHT cost around $ 500 to $ 600 and would inspect my car for FREE! They first advised me the problem was minor and only would cause tire wear. I insisted I wanted it fixed because it bothered me personally. After I left my car with them for the day, they discovered only a few bolts needed replacement and ONLY CHARGED ME $ 60 !
Let me remind you. Both Meineke in Pasadena, my own dealership, and Goodyear Tire tried to quote me over $ 2000 each for ALL DIFFERENT PROBLEMS. Each place had a DIFFERENCE DIAGNOSES for my car! If it wasn’t for Upstar, I would be broke and right where I started.
If you can bare yourself to move away from name brand auto repair/​tire companies, you will find yourself a new world of cheap and honest repair men.
WE HAVE THE INTERNET PEOPLE, COME ON! There is no need to fall for these guys anymore. Just search the reviews. Hundreds of people aren’t wrong.

I usually come here for maintenance stuff, like oil change. But you might have to reconsider going elsewhere if you need serious repairs, especially if you don’t know what’s wrong with your car.
After doing some research, I suspected my Honda Civic needed a new motor mount, but I came to Upstar and they told me that everything was fine with my car, even though I insisted that my car was making abnormal noises and I mentioned that worn out motor mounts may be the cause. Turns out that I was right, because I took my car over to Yu’s Auto Service in El Monte (they charge a lot, but they definitely know what they’re doing, been going there for 10+ years) and they found out right away that I had a worn out motor mount.
Also, my relative’s car broke down three times, and all three times, she went to Upstar, but they were unable to find anything wrong. She went to Yu’s Auto Service instead and they figured out the problem right away.
So, Upstar may be cheaper than a lot of other places, but sometimes they may not be the best for repairs. I suggest taking your car there first to see if they can figure out what’s wrong, but if they can’t find anything, it’s time to go elsewhere for a second opinion.
