Garvey Intermediate School

I don’t know why a lot of the parents call this school getto and all, because truely, this is one of the best middle school I have seen that is public. Don’t get be wrong, I’m not trying to be bias just because I went to school here, but because I been to a lot of the other middle schools, none of them have as safe of a campus as well as the amount of great staff that actually cares about students well being.
I have been visiting many schools the past ten years, from volunteering to just pure visiting, and if you’re thinking between Garvey Intermediate, Temple, Ynez, and all the other schools, please put Garvey as your consideration! Because trust me, your kid won’t miss a thing.
Best of all, there are many electives kids can choose from. From arts to choir, from band to yearbook and journalism. Why go private at New Ave school when you can save a bunch of money trying out a public middle school? From a lot of my friends that went to private schools they claim that private didn’t teach them anything, but was just more enforced on the dress codes and rules. Not saying it’s bad to go to private or anything but think of all the money you save!

Garvey was a great school that helped us subtly transition from having only 1 classroom to the overwhelming 7 – 8 classrooms. This is where we learned from a bunch of teachers and from their various techniques of teaching. I liked the fact that we had mandatory elective classes, which allowed most of us to break out of our comfort zones and either embrace our talents or discover new talents. It was a fun way to learn new life skills.
If you were like me and had to change elementary schools, Garvey was a place that you would be reunited with long lost friends, and I’m glad some then became life long friends. And in most cases, middle school is where you meet most of your ride or die friends. These people see you before you become anything, and they get to really know the foundation of you before you venture out into the real world.

This school has a lot of space to utilize activities during break time and lunch as well classrooms. I love the teachers I have during my 7^th and 8^th grade year. They have different teaching styles but make it fun and challenging.

This school has a lot of activities to do and clubs to join. It is very easy to be involved in this school. Some activities there include Intramural sports and school dances. Some of the after-​school clubs they have are French Club and Science Club.
The teachers have various teaching styles, which is good for students to figure out what teaching style they like the most. Some are stricter than others, which is good if students like a little challenge in their school life.
The school lunches here are better than the lunches at other schools, but they would be even better if they had a little more healthier choices and stopped having the same dish twice in a row (Ex. Chicken sandwich on Mon and Tues).
What makes the school fun for students is that some even have electives to choose from. There are many choices; some of them are Band, Choir, and CPU technology.
It’s too bad that they don’t have the students use everyday lockers, because some students need to carry a lot of materials to school, such as instruments. Middle school is supposed to help students get ready for high school, but they don’t have the students practice getting their needed school supplies in and out of the lockers. Although, they do have gym lockers. That, at least, gives them a little bit of practice with lockers.
For those who need new friends here, this school is full of classmates with all sorts of personalities. You’ll be able to find a good friend for you here.
This school is the place for students if they like challenges and getting involved in many school activities. Many students who promote from Garvey say that their middle school life was the best two years that they have ever spent. Who knows? This may be the same for you.
