Velarde Salon & Spa

Basically a good place but some of the services are too expensive in my opinion, especially the nails and facials.

This is by far my most favorite salon! I lived in Roselle for 6 years and moved to Wheaton a year ago, and I still drive to Roselle for my pedi and no chip mani because nobody does it better. Also, they have the biggest selection of no chip colors I’ve ever seen! I’ve also gotten my haircut here and my kids haircut here and they do a great job! Super chic atmosphere that isn’t pretentious. If you haven’t been yet, you must go!

First time at this wonderful spa and now trying to plan a return visit. Wonderful staff and quality service. If in the roselle area must make an appointment.

I am giving Velarde salon 5 stars! Although I am family, I’ve grown up in the business and i am also a cosmetologist going on 8 years. I have the honor of watching the business continue to grow. We are not perfect and there are some people we haven’t been able to satisfy as you can see, but we do and will continue to strive to make every guest feel special and give quality service!

I love this place I have put reviews before and they continue to get put in not recommended I do not review them as good if I don’t like them but this is my opinion and I love them. they are very professional I never have an issue when I go there. they are very friendly and it is a very relaxing place to be when I need that «me» day. I am in no way related to anyone there. When I go there I have a great time joking around and laughing with all of them and yet can have a relaxing time as well if needed. They always fit me if when they can if I have to cancel and reschedule.

I had an amazing experience at Velarde Salon & Spa. I called on a Wednesday for scheduling appointment to get my hair colored and and they could fit me in immediately on Friday at 12:30, turned out perfectly as i could get to my appointment during my lunch hour. I saw Raquel during my appointment and she was really good at taking care of my needs. I have a really long hair and I needed to color my outgrown hair. The girls at the salon were courteous and asked me if I wanted to get some coffee or water. Also, I felt I wasn’t charged outrageously for the services I received and I paid a fair price. Also, Raquel gave me coupons for mani/​pedi and for hair services which I could utilize for the next visits. I would definitely return here and recommend this place to anyone.

I went there for a bridesmaids up-​do before a wedding and it came out amazing! I have short hair and the up-​do was full of body! I was getting compliments all night. I don’t remember the name of the girl who did my hair but she was very friendly. The place is super clean and modern. I love the interior design. The price for my hair was very reasonable, overall I absolutely recommend this place for styling.

I am glad other people have had good experiences at this salon and I hope it continues working out for them. I thought I had found a good salon, but as of my last experience, sadly, I have to move on. From what I was lead on to believe, the feeling is mutual.
I bought a Groupon for a mani/​pedi to use here because of the positive reviews. I decided to try them out for my monthly hair touch ups. Raquel worked on my touch up and found a shade I was happy with. She wasn’t all for it, but it worked for me. The following month she agreed it was a good shade. Raquel is a young girl that seems to be good at her job, but does not feel the need to feign interest in small talk, at least that was my impression. Don’t get me wrong, that can actually be a plus. Sometimes you just want to be left alone to nap while someone works on your hair. I went in on Thursday nights my first two times and I should have stuck to that night. My mistake was that I went in on a Saturday for a mani/​pedi and root touch up. The mani/​pedi was great! Raquel did my manicure. Then, she did what is apparently customary-​she handed me over to Laura and said that she would be touching up my roots because she was working with another client. At first, I thought nothing of it since Laura seemed very nice. Also, I trusted them to be professional and look up the formula and consult with each other. However, something went wrong with the formula. It was too dark and set my gradual root lightening back some months. It wasn’t obvious in their salon due to the lighting, but I noticed it first in the car and then back home.
I called Laura back on a different day and asked about it. She said she mixed the dye according to the formula and that it could be my hormones, but that if it was going to drive me crazy I could come back and she could fix it. Due to lack of time and since I figured I’d be back in a month & thought she could fix it then, if need be. Most importantly, I just wanted the right shade for the new growth. There was a lack of communication because she told me to call and speak to her when making the appointment. I understood that I should ask to speak to her if I wanted it fixed. When I made the appointment I didn’t expect it to be fixed, just done right this time. It wasn’t «driving me crazy» so I didn’t ask to speak to her. Apparently, that was my first mistake because she didn’t have extra time needed to fix it.
I was given an appointment for touch up and one for hair cut (one hour apart). When I got to the appointment 15 minutes late, Laura was up in arms about my tardiness. Never mind that I’ve waited for Raquel for about the same amount of time on a previous occasion. Laura, it seems, is a stickler for timeliness. She did not know that my new, 2 year old car was in the shop because it needs a new transmission (yes, I know) and that I could not figure out the car start in my rental. Regardless, I ruined her schedule and was told there was no way she could fix it or barely even touch it up since she had another client in 15 minutes. I told her we could forget about the hair cut and that she could dye my hair during my hair cut time. Not fair to her, I know to have her lose 15 – 30 minutes of $$$$. I suppose I deserve the treatment for my obvious lack of consideration. Therefore, if you are anything like me, you may want to look elsewhere or maybe you have thicker skin and can take the admonishing. Not I. There are other places to go. That is what I did. I walked out. Shortly after, Laura called stating that the owner wanted them to accommodate me. The damage was done, the bond broken. Time to look for a new salon.

I recommend Velarde Salon to friends and family every chance I get. They are a true treasure amongst the over-​priced chains and the sub-​par, nothing special salons out there. The salon itself is charming, yet trendy, and very inviting, as is the staff. They really treat their clients like family and go out of their way to make sure you enjoy your time there and are satisfied with your services. Enjoy a cup of coffee and a sweet treat while they make you look and feel wonderful. I bet you will leave there feeling like you just made new friends that you can’t wait to see again. Definitely give them a try if you are looking for great service, talented staff, reasonable prices and a salon that will truly appreciate and value you as a client.

I absolutely love this salon. The customer service is great! The salon is very pretty inside! It’s a must try!

I can’t say enough good things about Velarde. They always make me feel like I am having a relaxing, fun night out. Coming from the mom of a toddler, this is a big deal. The girls are all really sweet and Michelle works wonders with my limp, thin locks. They recently switched to all Aveda products so now my hair smells like a little bit of heaven when I leave Velarde. Be warned– if you go there one, you will become a regular.

I love this place! Young Mel is my stylist and she’s awesome! Super sweet and knows exactly what I want when I don’t even know. I’ve had cuts and a fancy schmansy hair do here and it was pretty reasonable. Love their prices plus skilled hairdressers.

I’ve been going to Velarde for almost a year for manicures. Love them. Everyone is super friendly, my nails always look great, and prices are incredibly fair. Highly recommend.

L’il Mel is the absolute best stylist I’ve gone to in a long time. I love this salon and I will definitely be going back. She was so sweet and knew exactly what I wanted. She did a great job with my blonde highlights and put in some cute pink accent pieces! She did a great job with the cut and the whole salon is just really cute and has a great atmosphere. I can’t wait to go back. If you’re on the way to Woodfield or in the burbs for anything, this is a great place to go! And ask for Lil Mel. Also really well priced!

I absolutely love Velarde! I have been going to these girls since I was in 8^th grade. From the moment I walk in they all personally greet me and ask how I’m doing. I’ve had a service done with everyone that works there and have never been disappointed, I can even tell the girls to surprise me with my new look and I love it every time!
Sherri, Kati, and Mel always do my nails beautifully! I get so many compliments whenever I go out and I always recommend you girls :)
Deidra, Laura, little Mel, Michelle, and Natalie do a fabulous job on color, cuts, and styles, not just on me but every client they work with! It amazes me how much talent they possess!
Kristin is great too! She is so gentle when she does my eyebrow wax! They are always perfectly shaped and even. Which as been a HUGE problem elsewhere. And she’s great at makeup applications as well.
And Lisa, she is always so polite! She is always there to help you with whatever you need!
I love the atmosphere of this salon! It’s so warm and cozy. I also love the fact that it is family-​oriented, kids are welcome too! The prices are extremely reasonable for the outstanding services/​outcomes you receive. The girls really make you feel like family, not just another customer!

This one star rating is based entirely on my customer service experience with Velarde and a not at all on my salon experience.
That said, I purchased a groupon in December for salon services for my mom and I to go together as a christmas gift. We kept trying to schedule services at the same time and they kept saying that they were too booked — we tried this for about 2 months and called 4 – 5 times. Finally someone on the phone explained to me that they only have one spa services room, so two people cannot get services (like 2 massages) at once.
So my mom and I decided to split up and each just go on our own. I know she called a number of times to try and get an appointment — but she could only ever book it about a week in advance because of not knowing her work schedule farther ahead than that. She was not able to get an appointment until September for two spa services back to back– when she had been trying every couple of weeks for MONTHS.
I also have been trying pretty frequently to schedule my two services — although I have a much smaller time window than her (I can only get services in the evenings because of work) and I still have not been able to make an appointment. I called today with a last ditch attempt to get an appointment before my groupon expires on the 27^th and they tell me they are booked solid until then.
I politely asked if they would please extend my groupon a couple more weeks so that I could get an appointment and the manager I spoke with said they would not extend groupons. She also said that she would not refund my groupon. So now I am out $ 50 with nothing to show for it. Their complete lack of customer service was a big mistake because if I had liked the salon, I would likely have been a repeat customer.

I found this salon via Groupon and arrived with one in hand. The salon was easy to find and there is free 2-​hour parking right in front. I loved the warm décor– the salon is clean and looks brand new.
The trouble I keep coming across with Groupon is that rarely ever would I actually want to pay full price for the services received. This was not the case here. First, prices are reasonable to begin with. Everyone is very pleasant, accommodating and wants you to feel comfortable. I was late to my appointment and they worked with me, so that I did not have to spend a minute waiting. The services are not run of the mill and incorporate that little extra. For example, my massage came with aromatherapy and the pedicure included a paraffin dip.
I thought that the massage I received today was very good. I asked for deep pressure and that is exactly what I got. The massage bed was heated and the therapist, Sherri, used warm towels on my back. She also asked me for my preference in terms of the scent of the essential oils she used. Most places do not include all of these things in a standard 30-​minute massage.
My pedicure was wonderful, also. Again, very reasonable in terms of price. I am used to paying $ 55+ for a pedicure at my «regular» spa and it does not include all the bells and whistles (scrub, mask, paraffin). They have a nice selection of nail polishes (OPI, Essie and one more line I do not recall) and what appear to be brand new massage chairs. Mel did a great job and spent quite a bit of time on my feet.
I would definitely return. I was very happy with my mini spa day today.

Super cute, chic and trendy place! But — the service I received was not the greatest. I was in a pinch and needed to get my eyelash extensions filled in — stat! I had heard Velarde offered the service, and they were able to get me in right away.
The girl who applied them did a decent job. She was very nice and sweet, but I could tell she was new — I should have known right then and there to run the other way. But, I figured it would be good enough until I could get in with the girl who does an amazing job (Yes, I go somewhere else).
Here’s where the problem came in to play… after 2 days they all started to fall off. Really?!? They’ve always lasted way long than that! When I called her to tell her what happened, she was very apologetic and told me to come in right away and she would fix them for me. I went in the next day and had them touched up. Do you know what happened 2 days later? They fell off — AGAIN. This time, the answer I received was that some client’s eyelashes just don’t respond well with the adhesive. Ummm, I could see that being true, if they were using Elmer’s glue. Needless to say I was less than pleased. When I finally got an appointment with my regular girl she said Velarde did a crap job — it looked like they were put on by a beginner student and they used inexpensive products. Ooops — looks like I won’t be straying from my regular girl again!
I will say, the staff is very friendly and accommodating. I would definitely give them another chance with a pedicure, facial or a trim on my hair. However, if you’re looking for eyelash extensions — I’d look elsewhere.

Over the holidays I was spending some time in the suburbs by my parents and wanted to get my hair done. Luckily, Velarde had a Groupon featured that same week! Within a few days I used it and was very pleased. I used $ 95 out of the $ 100 value– and they wrote down that I still had $ 5 left instead of taking the whole thing! Not many places would do that.
I was a hair dye virgin and my stylist was very nice! The color came out amazing and my haircut was even better. They make you delicious coffee if you want and overall they’re very pleasant and professional.

Velarde has an amazing staff, very friendly, totally professional and incredibly fun. I love going to the salon now that I’ve found my new stylist. Whereas before I dreaded spending the time to get my hair done.
Their spa services are top notch too, but the prices are amazing!
There’s always such a diverse mix of people in the salon whenever I go too. It’s definitly not a «niche» type place, no snobs here at all!
