The entire business of flowers is about *making appropriate gestures*, so why did the wreath I ordered for my friend’s mother’s funeral have a big cheery«MERRYCHRISTMAS» bow on it? According to the woman who answered my complaint over the phone, it’s because the wreaths are purchased from another company and arrive to their shop already assembled and decorated. She failed to notice the bow and its totally inappropriate happy, seasonal greeting. The last thing you’d want at your mother’s funeral is a big red decorative reminder that she’s dead during the holidays. Flower arranging is a pretty detail oriented task. I don’t know how she missed a massive Christmas bow emblazoned with white lettering. And I don’t know how she went through an entire conversation with me and never apologized for such an insult to the dearly departed’s family. Instead of «I’m sorry», I got«so, whattaya wanna do?» Well, I wanted my money back. So they get one star for agreeing to that immediately.
