Spiro K.

Business Owner

Spiro Karachopan was born in 1954 in Greece. His father was a farmer and his mother took care of him and his 3 brothers and 2 sisters. In 1970, as a young teenager, he began working on cruise ships as an apprentice to various chefs. In 1973, Spiro came to the United States with $ 32.00 in his pocket and a dream. Thereafter, he refined his cooking skills by working for various restaurants in Manhattan and Long Island, New York. Seven years later, he opened the Sea Basin Restaurant.

Spiro embraces his success with humility. His generosity is endless and his donations to his community and abroad are substantial. He has received recognitions from Police Holy Name Society of Suffolk County for his «continued and generous support» and from the Office of the Suffolk County Executive for his «patriotism, dedication to family and his generosity to the community.» He has also been the recipient of awards, such as, «Person of the Year» in recognition of his extraordinary community service
