Light Up My Event

We used Encore Event Group for draped fabric and bistro lighting for our wedding and reception at The Rattlesnake Club in Detroit. Our wedding was on July 11, 2015 and I initially made contact with Rob in December of 2014. I was planning a Detroit wedding from California, so it was really nice to be able to take care of inquiries and details via email. When I first contacted Rob, he called me within 24 hours. It was probably within 12 hours. If there is one thing that Rob and his team excels at, it is communication! After meeting with Rob in person in early January to discuss the look I was going for, we made a 50% up front payment. (You can use a credit card, but be advised, there is a 2−3% finance charge.) I did not have any contact with Rob or his colleague Chris until late June, but I didn’t need any.
Receptions at The Rattlesnake are held in a 6 story glass-​ceiling atrium location in the Stroh River Place building. The space can feel a bit large and a bit like a hotel lobby, but with the addition of draping and bistro lighting, the space (although still unique) feels much smaller and more romantic.
About two weeks prior to the wedding (when the second 50% is due), Rob gave me a call saying he had just been to The Rattlesnake to take measurements. He then offered a few suggestions on the initial lighting and draping design. Originally, I just wanted him to string the bistro lights and the draped fabric across the second floor of the atrium to make the space feel smaller, more intimate. Rob expressed concern that this might make the space feel not small, but claustrophobic. He offered up an alternative design that involved draping fabric and bistro light strings up and down from the second and third floors. This depended on the availability of a scissor lift, which Rob knew that building maintenance had. The alternative design Rob proposed was not quite the aesthetic I was going for, so I drew up two alternative designs and emailed them to him. The next time I spoke to him, he told me that one of my designs was a vision he also had. And we went with that one! I didn’t have any flowers at my wedding. The lighting and draping made all the difference. Rob and his crew were able to get into the space the day before, so there were no concerns day of. He had one of his crew on sight the day of to set up a pipe and drape for the outdoor ceremony space (this he threw in for free!) as well as to adjust the bistro lights which were on a dial. The atrium can be quite bright with the sun coming through the ceiling, but as the night rolled in, the bistro lights lit up the space in a perfect way.
All in all, Rob and Chris were responsive, proactive, and their communication was top notch! I highly recommend them.

I was freaking out because my plans for lighting did NOT pan out with only days to find some other plan. I emailed/​called a bunch of place in the metro Detroit area.
Rob, one of the owners of EEG, called me without hesitation or reservation. He didn’t make me feel like an idiot for calling 2 days before my wedding. He just assessed what I wanted, made sure they had the lighting to do so, gave me a quote and set it all up the day of the wedding.
I received TONS of compliments with how beautiful the room looked and the amazing lighting and décor.
My wedding theme was more romantic, with lots of votive candles, but the one thing I wanted more than anything (as far as wedding décor) were bistro lighting over the dance floor to look like my husband and I were dancing underneath the stars.
He was also able to add the sheer cloth with stringed lights for our the back of our headtable… which really made a difference in the room!
First of all, not that many lighting vendors even can do that. Second, EEG was the only vendor who attended to me with such short notice.
When I talked to Rob and asked how he was able to do it, he simply told me EEG loves to do weddings and was excited for this challenge.
They truly made my dream wedding come true. Rob is amazing to work with! He and the rest of the EEG staff are so amazing and very diligent workers. He told me he had 6 other weddings to set-​up and tear down, but it did not interfere with the amazing work they put up for us.
Hands down, one of the best vendors I’ve worked with! And I truly recommend the Encore Event Group for all your lighting, décor and sound needs!
