Go to Min — she is an artist! — Having lived a lifetime as a girl w/long hair, I’m new to the world of short hair cuts. After much trepidation and experimentation at other salons, I have to say that Min is my stylist of choice. Each time I leave the salon, I feel like it’s the best cut/style I’ve ever had. She is the ONLY person I will trust with my short haircut. Min is very talented and has a good eye for style. She is laid back, will listen to your needs and will carefully craft a good style for you. The salon: The location is easy to reach with ample parking. The salon is chic but down-to-earth. The staff is very nice, often offering you a beverage while you wait. They have great magazines and even board games(Scrabble at last visit) for your loved one to occupy their time with while you get done over. In all, a great salon.

I went to see Whitney because of a mutual friend. I was in desperate need of a good haircut and he said she’d take care of me. He came in with me and waited on the couch while she styled my hair. She was super friendly and talkative and listened to exactly what I wanted. It was a pretty good hair cut and I was satisfied paying the $ 80 or whatever it was. A few months past and I was getting ready for an important trip so I made an appointment to go back in. She was running a little behind when I came in, but was very apologetic. She also spent 15 minutes just tossing the hair of the customer before me and dotting on how good she looked. Once I sat down she seemed very rushed. I told her I had loved my previous cut and wanted it trimmed back to that. The entire haircut took no more than 10 minutes and since I have naturally curly hair I didn’t bother having it blow dried. It seemed weird to me that it was so quick, but I trusted her. I also trusted her enough to spend $ 35 on hair products she recommended, which were absolute garbage. Once I got home I realized the hair cut was horrendous. The sides were completely uneven, by a little over an inch! The layers were choppy and the cut just looked horrible when straightened. I didn’t give her a chance to fix it because I left for my trip and got it fixed while I was gone. I don’t know if my friend was the reason she gave me the first good haircut, but Whitney is unreliable, and I wouldn’t ever go back. Go at your own risk.

One of the founders, Ray, has been cutting my hair for over 10 years. A little over a year ago, Whitney and Ray left Art & Chemistry and opened up shop right down the street in a nondescript strip mall on Nicholson. It was an instant success and they have since added a number of additional stylists. Ray always asks what style I am looking for and ensures that I am satisfied when I leave. She has seen my hair grow long, cut it back short and everything in between. She shows tremendous attention to detail, making sure that the cowlick that I call the back of my head looks like a nicely cut coif rather than a soft serve ice cream cone. I always get a great cut and style, as well as good conversation and atmosphere.
