We strive to provide the best treatment for each patient. If medical options are not successful or desired, we have advanced training in minimally-​invasive gynecologic surgery, which enables us to provide our patients with cutting-​edge technology to reduce pain, decrease hospitalization, and speed recovery.

Surgeries are performed at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital in Rockville, MD, and at Suburban Hospital in Bethesda, MD. We also offer the convenience of in-​office pelvic sonograms, and in-​office procedures with anesthesia, including hysteroscopy, endometrial ablation (Novasure), and hysteroscopic permanent sterilization (Essure).

The minimally-​invasive GYN procedures that we perform include laparoscopic hysterectomy, laparoscopic myomectomy, myomectomy through a minilaparotomy (5cm incision), and single-​incision laparoscopy. We also perform permanent sterilization in the office using hysteroscopy (a scope placed in the uterus through the cervix). The advantages of this include no abdominal incisions, minimal discomfort, and no time for recovery.

We specialize in treatment of:

— uterine fibroids — abnormal bleeding

— abnormal pap smears — contraception

— infertility — adolescent gynecology

Rockville Gynecology was founded in 2010 Dr Carolynn Young. She has expanded her solo private practice over the last year to now included Astrid Gonzalez M.D. and Tosha Luchtefeld, MS, FNP-​BC. Our practice specializes in strictly gynecology, genetic testing, hormones, birth control options, general GYN and much more. Business Owner

Dr. Carolynn Young is honored to be selected in the most recent issue of Washingtonian’s Top Doctors (2014). Dr. Young is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology, and she has focused her career on gynecology and minimally invasive gynecologic surgery. She was the Chief of Gynecology at Surburban Hospital from 2009 to 2012, and she performs advanced gynecologic procedures using the daVinci robotic system. Dr. Young is a Phi Beta Kappa member and Summa Cum Laude graduate of the University of Michigan. She obtained her M.D. from the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine where she was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. She then attended Eastern Virginia Medical School for residency in OB/​GYN. After residency, Dr. Young joined a practice in the Virginia Beach area which specialized in advanced pelvic floor surgery. This is a gem in the Rockville area! First off, scheduling an appointment was easy-​even when I had to reschedule due to my work schedule. The ladies of Rockville gynecology are very friendly and very professional. Julie is such a sweetheart and has multitasking down to a science! The entire staff seemed to really care about me and my well-​being as a woman and they were not rushing me at all. Tosha, the nurse practitioner, is such an awesome person! We sat and discussed medical options for me and she was very informative and sweet. She also made me feel better about my future procedure and she was not rushing me or trying to make me spend a lot of money. I understand why the reviews are so positive here-​these ladies are on point! Thank you ladies!

I’m a patient of Doctor Gonzalez. She has the most wonderful calm demeanor. She takes her time with you and really listens to the questions you have. I have never felt rushed during my appointment, even when the waiting room is full.
Julie makes checking into the office a breeze. I’m not sure what the doctors would do without her! Although she is constantly busy, she will alway make sure you have everything you need and remembers you by name when you come back in to the office. She works with you and the doctors schedule to get you in as soon as possible. Julie has even called me back several days after I’ve made an appointment to tell me additional time slots have been made available, allowing me to see the doctor sooner.
Most recently, Julie helped me get my daughter who is in college in to see Doctor Gonzalez within a very short timeframe before she had to go back to school.
I would highly recommend this office to anyone who may be looking. It is truly a kind and compassionate office where you feel like family, not just a patient!

I’m new to the area and looked for a new OB/​GYN. I read the reviews for this office and decided to make an appointment. I was seen by the Nurse Practitioner, Tosh Lutchefeld. She was amazing and eased my anxiety regarding the process and my first visit. I would highly recommend this office for a new patient.

This is the best OB GYN practice I’ve ever been to! the staff is lovely, efficient, friendly and always helpful. Dr. Young in an exceptional clinician who listens, explains, is patient and gentle. I’m so glad I found them. A solid 5 stars for cleanliness of the practice, access, staff and just everything! I’ve never had to wait exceptionally long, but stuff happens, and Doctors can get behind. To me it’s worth waiting for Exceptional service. I’ve never felt rushed, and my cell phone connects there helping to pass time while waiting.

This is as good as it gets! My only suggestion is they need to also have OB care when women enter that stage. The thought of going anywhere else makes me cringe. I love this location, everything is new, clean and the staff is amazing. Julie at the front desk is friendly and has been there for a long time so she is also highly competent. I usually see Dr. Young and her assistant Chante (sp?). They are so incredibly sweet, attentive, professional and knowledgeable. I actually enjoy seeing them for my visits!
When Dr. Young is out of the office I have also seen Dr. Gonzalez and the other Dr. they have on staff. Both are also very nice, take the time to listen and are thorough despite me not being their «designated» patient.
I have seen Dr. Young for 5 years now so I am going to stick with what has always worked for me. =)
Pro’s:

3. Will draw blood in office — no need to mess with LabCorp
4. Has a sonogram tech who is PHENOMINAL and her hours are starting to increase — this in house service is so convenient
5. Clean office!

My only con’s for this office:
1. You will not get cell service — first world problem
2. They do not offer OBGYN care (suggestion — HINT HINT)

The office is brand new with free parking All three providers listen to concerns, take time with patients and are caring and compassionate. This is an office of all women, designed to be the exact kind of place they’d want to go to themselves. Roomy cotton gowns, an attached Wellness Center and a top of the line gourmet coffee machine-they’ve thought of everything here!

I’m only giving this practice one star because I have to. I showed up 15 min early as requested since I’m a new patient. I was called back on time but was left in the exam room for 30 minutes. No one ever came back to say when the provider would be in (Tosha L), or how much longer she would be. As a healthcare professional I always make sure I give my patients top notch customer service. They failed in my case. One of the medical receptionists promptly refunded my $ 40 copay, however no apologies were offered. That’s no way to welcome a new patient! Moving on to another practice.

I once organized a conference for the Department of Health where the keynote speaker asked why do we voluntarily walk onto a plane with confidence — but enter a doctor’s office wondering about the quality of service we will receive. The answer is you are not using Dr. Gonzales.
From the minute you enter the clinic there’s something different. Reception immediately acknowledges your presence even if they’re on the phone. I noticed they go so far as to close the glass between reception and the waiting room in order to not disturb you while you wait.
The nurse (Caitlina) was asking the right questions in her prescreening. And it didn’t feel rote. She a) understood and b) cared about the response. A very different experience from many other medical establishments we’ve been to for this issue.
As for Dr. Gonzalez. Where to begin? How thorough her examination and questions were? How much time she took to explain, LISTEN and answer? A doctor who listens? Not since my pediatrician back in 1976 have I seen a doctor on three continents that LISTENS.
Unilocal needs a 6th star for this group of professionals.

This was my first visit and I was so impressed and relieved by the atmosphere and friendly staff. They do expect you to arrive around 15 minutes early, and my appointment started RIGHT on time. The overall look and feel of the office adds to the comfort I receive. I met with Dr. Luchtefeld and she really took the time to get to know me, not judge me, and answer any questions I had. I just came for a routine checkup, and Dr. Luchtefeld was really gentle and kept holding conversation with me. It was done super efficiently (under 20 minutes) and I left satisfied. Would definitely recommend!

I got referred several doctors from my primary GYN for my Hysteroscopy and D&C and I just chose Dr. Young and Rockville Gynecology, but I did perfect choice. I received warm welcoming from the begining and appoinment was well set on time. Care before and after surgery was very professional, and after surgery, my condition was recovered very quickly without much pain. It means Dr. Young’s skillful operation. I felt she is very bright and lovingkind to take care of patients. It was such a good experience to me in my life even though it is the place I visit when I am sick.

No one likes to see a GYN. If however you adhere to the preventive schedule and you need help with a problem, Dr Young and her team are absolutely the best. Prompt, professional, caring and compassionate. I love this practice.
I had an appointment with Tosha, the nurse practitioners and I was delighted with her. She was very thorough and took the time to explain my problem and set me at ease.

I have been going to Dr Young for over 7 years and have never been disappointed. She performed 2 procedures on me for different issues, one using her daVinci Robotic System. She is one of the best Doctors I have gone to. Even my daughter is seeing Dr. Young. She started seeing Dr Young when she was 17 and is now 22 and not interested in ever seeing a different GYN. I love the new office space. Very modern, nicely decorated and FREE PARKING. I would recommend Dr Young for any age and any female health issue.

I originally had a referral to see dr young, but she was unable to fit me in until April and I am in pain now. They offered Dr astrid Von Walter Gonzalez who was available in a week. The location was easy to find as I used shady grove drs and radiology etc. the staff was pleasant upon arrival, I had to fill out forms and the nurse was able to call me in as soon as I was done. She listened well, and when the dr was ready for me we were able to just talk at her desk. She drew me pictures and showed me google images and links, and provided me handouts to ensure I had as good an understanding as possible. While my original thought was she is too young to help me, she proved me wrong. She was able to instill confidence in her and her practice. They couldn’t schedule me for a month since they only do the procedure once a month and my appt was the Monday after the last surgery procedure date, but she was able to provide me something for the pain in the meantime without me having to beg like I did at my primary care facility. I think when this is all said and done i will still continue to work with astrid and Rockville gynecology due to how pleasant they were and knowledgable dr Gonzalez was

Best gynecology experience I have had so far. The staff I encountered 10-​24-​2014 were all personable, professional, congenial, and caring.
Dr. Young diagnosed my challenges and came up with some pretty darn creative alternatives that no other Doctor has suggested. All ideas made sense.
Staff members, Julie, Sarah and Chanthy were happy and proud of their positions at the office: it was very apparent to me everyone gelled well as team members.
The office recently moved from Medical Center Drive to Omega Drive two weeks ago, so be careful when setting your GPS.
