Repeat Performance

this place has unfriendly and rude old staff, and thats something most dancers in the area know. it has not a cute selection of leotards or pointe shoes but a lot of character shoes.

Very unhelpful and they need to catch up with the times.
I drove out to this store once and regretted making the drive for the limited selection of dance shoes that they have available. I recently called back to try and get information on the shoes they have in stock. The person on the phone was very unhelpful (she said oh a lot of our shoes fit that description). I asked if they had any pictures of their stock online and she said no I would need to just go to the store.
It’s 2016 — Many online retailers are offering free shipping AND free returns. This store should, at the very least, post pictures of what they have in stock on their Facebook.

I’m an often visitor to the store as this is the closest one for us.
If you decide to go to this store, make sure you go to the middle aged guy who works there. He is very helpful, makes jokes with the kids, and is very polite. All the five stars go to him!
By all means stay away from the old lady, who seems to hate everything and everyone, including her job. Had several interactions with her and she was never pleasant to deal with, provided wrong advice (e.g. recommended wrong size of the rights), and has that «never come here again» look.
The worst point was when my little girl asked about the bathroom, she said that they don’t have any bathrooms. Then i asked where they go themselves, she said that even they have bathroom, they do not have the «license» to give it to the customers! :) That is, she lied both times.
Her recommendation was to go to the Wendy’s, which is across the expressway and is out of question to be crossed with the child. On top of being unprofessional, incompetent for the job, she is far from the kind and good hearted grandma type. The other female ladies are very average, so I only stick with the guy.

False ads, helpful, higher prices.

The gentleman that helped me was very knowledgeable and we left with the perfect ballet slipper for my 11-​year old daughter. I also really appreciated that they were open on Sunday.

Prices are extremely high at this store comparing to other locations I have been shopping dancewear from, but I did not expect to spend low on dance shoes anyways. The over a hundred dance shoes I bought did not fit me well and I decided to return them after the 2^nd day of purchase. What I encountered was an absolutely unreasonable rude owner and a terrible customer service.
I did not receive a refund of any kind on the purchase, as she said they are a small business and they do not do refunds! Non of the staff there let me know about this at the time of the purchase, even though they saw the doubt on my face about the size of the shoes. Finally, I was offered store credit; but what was amazing is that after such a dramatic experience, yet they did not realize that it is only a minute passed from the time I learned my lesson, in a very non pleasant way, to not shop for any other item from that store.
I will neither return to the store for any kind of purchase again, nor will I ever recommend it to anybody. Hope this helps!

Overpriced and rude as hell. I rarely do retail store reviews (although I should do more.) I usually get my daughter’s dance wear from Les Gals in Silver Spring, but I was in the area and was hoping maybe RP was a little cheaper, or at least the same. All I needed were kid’s pink and black transition tights. So I walk in and see 2 employees, one old and one young. Neither greet us, but that’s fine. I find the tights section and am searching for what I need for a good 5 minutes, again no one asks if I need help. I find the pink tights but not the black, so I ask. The response was, «everything we have is there.» As I’m still browsing, I see my 10 yr old daughter looking at a table of small gifts. She opens the top to a jewelry box, and the old lady behind the counter snaps, «don’t play with that.» My daughter looks up, not knowing if she’s talking to her, and again, the lady tells her not to play with it. First of all, she wasn’t even playing with the thing… she was looking at it and the lady is just staring her down! So my daughter walks away and we go to the counter to pay for the pink tights. A minute later another little girl starts looking at the box, picks it up, opens it, AND starts twisting the back to make it play music, actually «playing» with it… the woman looks at her and doesn’t say a thing.
I regret buying the tights from there, which were actually $ 2 more for the exact same ones at Les Gals, but I was in a crunch and needed them. Needless to say, I definitely won’t be back.

When I first walked in, three sales associates were just chatting since there was no customer in the store. When I was checking out the ballroom sandals, one of them came over to ask if I needed help. After learning about my experience level and budget, she gave me some recommendations and went to bring out a few pairs for me to try. The sales associate was helping me getting the right size and fit and she did not put on any pressure for me to make a purchase right away. I was pleased with the customer service.
The store’s layout and stock definitely need some work. But I guess that’s the owner’s job. I’m happy with my trip there based on the customer service and I will go back if I need more help with ballroom shoes purchases.

I went In this afternoon looking to buy some tapered pointe shoes. Store was empty and there were two younger ladies and an older woman at the counter. They asked if I needed any help, and I declined since I prefer to size myself. So I spend a minute or two looking through their shoe selection, and the older lady come up to me and asks what I’m looking for. I tell her I’m just looking for shoes, but I don’t need any help. She then sneers at me and tells me that this is not a self service store. I was a little disconcerted by indicated that I understood. She then asks me if I am «actually going to buy anything today.» I had been planning on doing so, but having been treated like some low life coming into rob the place, I left a minute later after she wandered back to the register. ⁰⁄₁₀ will never come back to this place again.

Came here looking for some leotards and tights. There was a good selection of tights and the owner (I’m assuming) came over to help find what I was looking for. There were not nearly as many adult leotards as I was expecting. Variety of styles, especially in the plain black leotards, left something to be desired. Experience overall was ok.

Went to buy — Leotard & tights for an adult (moi).
OK, you know what? I just finished this and decided I’m going to go with the positives first.
You know what’s cool? Repeat Performance has ballet leotards in XXL. (Short digression: There’s a blisteringly idiotic belief that ballet lessons are reserved for people who want to be dancers. Also, you have to be built like a bundle of toothpicks to take ballet lessons. Both ideas are so moronic they give one a dreadful headache.)
Another cool thing: It exists at all. Once upon a time it wasn’t difficult to find leotards and tights at places like Pennys. Them days is gone. So to RP we go if we’re too uptight to attend ballet class in workout gear. (Ahem.) The sales staff are very friendly and I personally love their No Cellphones at Checkout rule. (Seriously folks, it is excessively rude, holds up everyone and you will N-​E-​V-​E-​R be that important.)
And then there are the hours. Let’s say you wake up Sunday, and decide you MUST HAVE ballet wear (or any dance wear) that day. RP is (to my knowledge) your only hope in this area.
Let us talk of dance tights (Newbie Note: Your plain old black fashion tights are way too sheer and feeble for a dance class. Buy dance tights, they offer more support and last forever.)
RP has dance tights of every flavor I’d ever imagined and a couple I did not know existed. (They make convertible tights now? What happened to slashing the bottom of the feet?) They also had body stockings. It … Look, they got a buttload of tights. It took me half an hour to pick out stockings because I just couldn’t decide.
OK. NOW the leotards.
It took me an hour to find a ONE leotard and it was not because I was spoiled for choice. On the day I went in, if you were not an XS an M or XXL, you were SOL unless you had time to go through the racks.
Let us talk of organization.
RP is good at putting leotards of the same color together, but from there you’re on your own. Ballet leotards living in harmony with what I guess were gymnast leotards and some other things I wasn’t sure what they were for.
Also. How shall I put this without setting off the naughty word filter?
RP had a LOT of spaghetti strap leotards, but it was really short on basic long-​sleeved leotards. The problem: Some people who take ballet lessons, even if they plan to be dancers, have br3asts. Ballet lessons tend to involve a lot of activities a br3ast bearing person would not want to perform without sufficient support. So a spaghetti strap leotard is kind of useless because we’ll have to cram an athletic bra under there. Maybe they were left over from the summer. No idea.
So, wish they had a better leotard selection. The staff was very attentive and repeatedly asked if I needed help. So my frustration was just with the lack of selection. Maybe I’ll check back later, but call first.

After seeing the bad reviews for the customer service I thought I should add my experience on here as well — to say the least, I was positively surprised.
I came here looking to get some new ballroom shoes, since my current ones are disintegrating (and this seems to be the only place in the MD suburbs where you can get these). A young saleswoman immediately asked me what I was looking for when I came in, then led me to the correct section. After checking for my shoe size, she asked me to take a seat and kept bringing the various models to me, hunting down different sizes if the initial guess didn’t fit.
The store got busier while I was there, so she also took on some other customers, but I never felt neglected. In the end, I didn’t find any Standard pair with a great fit, and the Latin pair I liked was… pricey. Instead of talking me into buying them, the saleswoman said I might take a little time to think about the purchase. Now that makes for a great customer experience in my opinion.
So overall, I was happy, even if I didn’t get what I came here for — for the fifth star, they’d mostly have needed a significantly bigger ballroom section.

Seriously lacking in custom service.
I came to Repeat Performance looking for salsa shoes. Of course, I’m well aware you can buy shoes much cheaper online, but I wanted to be able to try them on and was willing to pay a bit more.
Unfortunately, Repeat Performance doesn’t deliver. At least not for me.
There were three sales people working when I visited. One man was busy helping a young girl try on shoes. The two other ladies were doing… nothing.
I told one of the ladies that I was looking for salsa/​ballroom shoes. She just said «OK». Not «let me point them to you» or «here are the styles».
I poked around the poorly organized shoe section for fifteen minutes. Not many shoes were in my size, at least from what I could tell. No one asked what I was looking for, or if they could help. Besides the young girl trying on shoes, I was the only customer. It wasn’t until I walked out that one said «Oh, you didn’t find anything?»
Since this is the only store stalking dance shoes in the area, I’ve resorted to buying shoes online and hoping they fit. I wanted to support a local business, but walked out quite disappointed.

Great selection for ballroom dancing shoes. Staff went out of their way not to pressure me and encourage me to try every option. Can’t wait to go back.

I won’t be a repeat customer. I took my daughter today to get tap shoes as her studio didn’t carry a small enough size for her foot. We walked in and were the only customers in the store. Three employees were chatting at the front counter. One left and went to the back, the other two kept chatting. No one greeted us, no one offered to help. I stood there for several minutes not wanting to interrupt. Still, no effort whatsoever to acknowledge our presence. After a good five minutes, I decided this was ridiculous and asked if someone would please help us with shoes. The one woman looked at me like I was seriously putting her out but walked over to assist us. We did find shoes we needed, but the store was charging 5 dollars more per pair than my daughter’s studio was charging for an identical So Danca shoe. As we needed the shoes in a couple of days we didn’t really have another option, but we’ll definitely be planning to shop online or have the studio order the shoes for us in the future. We also looked at a few leotards and they were also a few dollars more a piece than our studio charges. All in all, the prices were a bit high (compared to online or our local dance studio) and the customer service left a lot to be desired.

I came here a few weeks ago to get shoes for Zumba. Since I’m not a dancer and never really did any theater-​type stuff, I had never been to this store before, nor did I know it even existed. Right when I walked in, I was asked if I needed any assistance. The woman helping me immediately showed me all the different shoes that were good for Zumba. She was very attentive and was able to stick to my price range. I was probably in and out of there in a few minutes. Yay for new Zumba shoes!

When my mom was a young girl, she was lithe and graceful, and was the darling of her ballet class. When my mom had me, she had dreams of pink tutus and ballet recitals… which were brutally shattered when my ballet teacher unceremoniously kicked me out of the class after 2 years for being so tragically clumsy, fat, and uncoordinated.
So imagine my surprise when my mom decides that she would like ballet classes for Xmas. AND she would «like» (command) me to join her.
So on this loveliest of Saturdays, my mom and I went to Repeat Performance to look for ballet slippers… and leotards. Heh.
Repeat Performances is huge and crammed full of dance and theatrical costumes and gear. There are costumes for figure skaters, and even mascot costumes! We walk in, and although it was slightly busy, it was quite obvious that both my mom and I were completely lost trying to figure out 1) where are the ballet slippers, 2) what type of slippers do we need to get, and 3) what size slippers to get — as they don’t come in normal shoe sizes. No one stops by to help us or check up on us.
After 15 minutes of confusing wandering, I finally march up to the counter, and ask for help. The lady — just standing there — tells me that she’ll get someone to help me in a moment. Within 5 minutes, a lady comes to help us, but was almost rudely brusque with us. Although I wasn’t happy with her, she *DID* get us fitted properly for ballet slippers. Without checking to see if we needed help with anything else — she just walks away.
With the shoe situation out of the way, my mom and I could get down to the hilarious business of finding a leotard. OK. For anyone who has never taken dance, or seen anyone dance, I’m going to let you in on a secret. Dancers are skinny. Yes, they are. So all of their stuff is cut small. And by «cut small», I mean that although I normally wear Small/Medium…I almost had to go up to XL for the leotard. My mom, who normally wears a Small, could barely move her arms in a M. Heh, I’m sure everyone could picture the hilarity that went on in the dressing rooms (think of the infamous «dancing hippos» from Fantasia if you need a point of reference).
There was a pretty decent selection — not much in the way of colors, but there was a nice variety of sizes and cuts (lower back vs high back vs mock turtlenecks). We probably would have purchased the leotards if *SOMEONE* was there to guide us. Once we decided that leotards were out for us (tshirts and leggings is our new plan!), we had a glorious time looking through dance costumes for ballroom dancing and adorable accessories.
Although I don’t know what the normal cost of dance gear should be, I was pleasantly surprised by the prices ($ 18 per pair of ballet slippers, $ 27 for the leotards). I will probably come back to Repeat Performance to get more gear, as my mother finds new ways of torturing me (I think I see «belly dancing» in her eye for her birthday), as the selection is great. However, as a warning to first time dancers, or anyone who need help and guidance — the staff doesn’t seem to really want to help.
