Zammuto’s Drive In and Carry Out specializes in Granita Sicilyliano a delicious frozen dessert that is a cross between Italian Ice and Sorbet. We create it the old fashion way, in house from an 88 year old Sicilian recipe.

Our food is fantastic, the best burgers in the USA (according to our customers). Weekends we have our signature sides, Collard Greens and Corn Bread, Fried Corn, Sweet Potatoes, Spaghetti, Macaroni and Cheese and Corn Bread Dressing. Everything is made from scratch so when it’s gone it’s gone.

The service is impeccable, always with a smile, to make your experience one you will want to have again and again.

One of my favorite things growing up were the granitas from Zammuto’s. It’s not the normal Italian ice you find elsewhere that resembles a snow cone. Instead, it’s grated so fine that when in your mouth it just melts. Perfect! They also have a wide selection of flavors to accommodate everyone. I’m partial to the lemon flavor which I find refreshing on those hot summer days.
I always rave about this place to my friends. This place is definitely a Rockford staple. The food is pretty legit too. My favorite are their french fries and fried mushrooms. I think the sweetness of the granitas work well the saltiness. It’s nice that they’ve more tables outside so customers can eat. It’s a great place to grab a bite to eat or dessert during those summer months.

Zammutos is awesome. My wife grew up in Rockford and has been going there for their granitas her whole life. She turned me on to it when we were dating in the 80’s and I have been a big fan ever since. The newer granita + soft serve ice cream is brilliant. I go for the strawberry + lemon soft serve while my wife likes the lemon+ lemon soft serve combo. While the east side of Rockford is mostly generic and culturally bland, the west side is diverse and culturally vibrant. Zammutos is a hidden gem and is well worth finding.

I only had their granita when I went but it was amazing! I got the lemon soft serve with strawberry granita. It was sweet tangy deliciousness. My wife doesn’t like lemon soft serve so she wasn’t a fan but it was spot on for me. This place is a very little know place in Rockford that is if you live east of the rock river! A real hidden gem of taste. The outside is run down and staff is pretty curt but I didn’t care because I came for good food not an experience. Located in a not so great part of Rockford either, but worth it if your having a craving for something sweet.

Zammuto’s is tasty, zangy, and hip. My friends and I had only been to the Zammuto’s cart, at the Rockford City Market in the summer. We were so glad that Zammuto’s was just as delicious as it was the summer before. I will definitley be returning tomorrow and I may just buy a shirt. Zammuto’s is a great attribute to the Rockfordian Culture!
