Went to this store this morning for the first time. Absolutely awesome. Mostly paperbacks, but hardcovers too. Most every paperback was half off, regardless of original price. So some really nice vintage books were only 30 to 50 cents. Can’t beat that. Plus they had lots of other stuff to look at, collectible superhero type stuff. I didn’t have enough time to look at these other items, so next time. Fair pricing and most(not all) of the books were in really good shape. If they keep this business model I will be back many times. Update late December 2015: While I still like this store and went back a second time, I get the feeling they don’t get in much new stock. If you visit here and empty the place of what you want, chances are if you go back in a month or two, everything will be the same. Of course, you never know for sure, and that’s part of the fun of browsing for used books.

Great place… one of the few around that stocks Dover books(cheap versions of classics), not to mention a fantastic selection of new & used aside from that.

This place is absolutely awesome, and has a charm all its own. Ray & Judy’s Book Stop is one of the last great independent book stores left. This is a very eclectic store with a variety of unusual offerings. The owner, Ray, is a very nice person and always helpful. He’s been running this excellent shop for almost 30 years? Maybe longer! In addition to lots of used paperbacks and hardcovers of almost all genres, Ray & Judy’s is also a first rate comic book store, with a large selection of all the new titles, and a gigantic collection of back-issues. Most back issues and used paperbacks are half cover price, so you can get some really nice bargains here. You like cookbooks? Tons of em — new and vintage. Fiction/Sci-Fi? Shelves full of great stuff. History? Covered. Health and Medical? You bet. Really, this store just about has it all. A great selection of stuff. I have found some great items shopping here and so will you if you take the time to peruse the shelves. The shop is crammed full of books and other wonderful things, so quarters can seem a little tight and you have to dig a bit, but its worth the effort and so much fun to find the hidden treasures. The store is actually very well organized considering the amount of stock. I envy Rockaway for having this great store. If you love old books and comics and other nerdy and fun things, this is a must-see, old-fashioned store. This store really has everything the family could want in books and odds and ends. Highly recommended!

This is a great shop. They have tons of great books, as well as a pretty impressive collection of comics(new/old). I talked a bit with Ray and he is one of the nicest guys I have ever met. He helped find exactly what I was looking for and I highly recommend checking out this store.

i love this place, ray is a friendly guy. they’ve got a big wall of used«classics» which all cost about a dollar each. new books are a bit more expensive, but check if they have what you’re looking for here before going to b&n because it’s going to be half the price. great selection for fiction, poetry, and philosophy, but a slightly limited selection for technical subjects.

This is one of my favorite shops in the area, and if I ever leave the area it would be one without a doubt I would stop by and visit as it would be worth the trip. Ray & Judy’s Book Stop is part comic book store, part toy and collectible store, and part used book store. As a comic book store they have a huge selection of back issues at half price, and if you are inclined Ray is more than happy to set up a subscription/reserve box for you. Just last week I wanted to track down a few issues of currently running monthly titles, and I left my list with him. Within the hour he called me back, and let me know that they were on order and he’d call me when they arrived. The latter is simply the kind of amazing customer service you’ll find if you stop by. As a toy and collectible store they have a wide assortment of comic related action figures and collectibles, as well as a wide variety of other action figure oriented collectibles. The range of these collectibles runs from the most recent DC Direct figures to action figure lines I have not seen in a store since the mid-nineties. This is a place where one could easily go broke, as the selection is really fantastic. Any visit I have ever made I have placed hands on at least five action figure/collectibles I would have loved to added to my collection, and the prices are always beyond fair. Also in the world of collectibles– Baseball cards, collectible trading card games, and supplies are also on hand. As a used book store they again have an amazing selection, and it is hard not to spend hours just perusing the shelves. Everything is in fantastic order, and all categories are well marked and delineated. Pricing for used books is pretty standard: half cover price, with the exception of books with a $ 1.95(and under) original cover are one dollar. As far as trade in goes they offer 10% of the cover price as in-store credit, which is a bit lower than the average 25%, but I do not usually do a host of trade-ins, so this is a moot point for me(mileage I know will vary). All in all this is simply put a great store, and if you are nearby(or passing through) is definitely worth a stopping by! As an added service you can also have copies made, get notary work done, pick up a postcard or greeting card, and grab a wide variety of Maps(County, State, and USGS Topo).
