Specialties

Nestled on 15 acres a few miles northwest of Watkins Glen, NY, the Ginger Cat B&B is the perfect place to stay during your vacation in the Finger Lakes.

Winner of the 2009 VegNews Magazine Favorite Vegetarian B&B, as voted on by over 35,000 participants. This was quite an honor.

Our philosophy is simple: Treat our guests as friends. Provide clean and comfortable accommodations and serve great 100% VEGAN food.

Enjoy your breakfast on the 4-season porch, watch the magnificent sunsets and stargaze (the Milky Way is directly overhead!) from the large deck or take a walk through the woods that surround the house and gardens.

Despite our rural surroundings, we are less than 15 minutes to Farm Sanctuary, the Seneca Lake Wine Trail and Watkins Glen State Park. Corning and Ithaca are within 45 minutes.

And — if you need some feline loving, our resident cats will be happy to accommodate your needs.

We are open all year. Rates: Sunday — Thursday $ 120 plus taxes. Fri/Sat $ 135 plus taxes.

History

Established in 2008.

When a friend mentioned that Farm Sanctuary in New York had some job openings I submitted my resume. I was offered a job in the Education Department, overseeing the annual Walk for Farm Animals, helping with event planning, conducting farm tours, helping with the B&B cabins and working in the gift shop.

Within 4 months, I sold my house in MA, bought a house just north of Watkins Glen and moved myself and my cats.

2007 was a difficult financial year for Farm Sanctuary and they were forced to cut staff. Being the most junior in the department, I was let go.

Next project: Open up a VEGAN B&B

So — paintbrush and power tools in hand, I started making renovations to the bedrooms, bathroom and sunroom. I’d already fixed up the deck and have been creating a garden oasis since moving here. My veggie garden has been incredible and the pear tree and wild blackberries are awesome.

Well — there you have it. I look forward to meeting you when you come and stay.

Meet the Business Owner

Gita D.

Business Owner

I have been involved in animal rescue for most of my life, became a vegetarian in my mid 20’s and have been vegan for over 10 years.

I started my web design business (www.devidesigns.com) targeting local animal rescue groups and shelters and small businesses. That led to my being asked to join the Board of Directors for a local cat rescue group, taking on the task of renovating my barn into an adoption center/spay-neuter clinic and managing the shelter.

I worked for Farm Sanctuary overseeing the Walk for Farm Animals, giving tours, etc., but 2007 was a difficult financial year for Farm Sanctuary and they were forced to cut staff.

So — again I was at a cross road. I really love this area and have made many good friends in the local vegan/animal community. I volunteer at Farm Sanctuary, helping with animal health checks and my heart is there, with the animals.

I knew that my house would make a perfect VEGAN B&B and that was one of the things I liked when I bought it.
