The Y on Charlotte Ave. is really not much different than many others. If you have a family, and want a gym membership that caters to the whole family, the Y is definitely for you. To do: The main room houses free weights, machines and cardio equipment(TVs to watch). There is a smaller version of this room upstairs. Running track upstairs with some cardio equipment dispersed. There are two separate basketball gyms. Two racquetball courts with observation deck. There is an indoor and outdoor pool(outdoor has water slides). There are multiple locker rooms with sauna, steam rooms, showers, and lockers. Spinning and aerobics classes are offered. Two hours worth of daycare for those of us with kids. A playground for the kids. Summer camps for kids. Meeting room available. The Y on Oakland has great services and such a friendly staff. You can even get a personal trainer or take water aerobics classes. The only reason the Y on Oakland doesn’t get 5 stars, is the same reason 99 out of 100 Ys won’t get 5 stars… they’re generally old and outdated in appearance. It doesn’t bug this guy though.
