Welcome to McGoon’s Taxi Co. Pub & Restaurant. Located in the historic Olmsted County Bank & Trust building in downtown Rochester, MN, this unique pub & restaurant features a full menu of traditional favorites and contempoary dishes. With the most diverse beer selection in the area, featuring imports, microbrews, and domestics, the fully stocked bar and delicious food are complimented by the inviting atmosphere and friendly service. Upstairs you will find Goonie’s Comedy Club. We have live shows weekly, special events throughout the year, fundraising and sponsorship opportunities. We’ll cater your event here or off-​site. This place is a JOKE!

History

Established in 2006.

Unique pub & restaurant with a full menu and bar. Open lunch and dinner 6 days a week. Many photos of Rochester’s past via the lives of the original McGoon’s Taxi Co. (est. 1920) owners adorn the walls.

Great atmosphere, great service, very clean. My roommate and I enjoyed everything about the restaurant — I had the shrimp tacos and my roommate had the cod fish fry. The tacos were great but the fish wasn’t great. I Would go back for sure

My husband and I went here Saturday night and waited over 20 minutes for someone to come over to our table. We ended up leaving. We live 2 hours away and heard good things about this place. Very disappointed.

My sister-​in-​law and I went for lunch while at the Mayo. This place rocks! Good beer (Smithwick). Appertizers (Mushrooms). Burgers!

This is 1 of the best pubs in the country. Let’s begin, it’s a sin not to order the Cheese Curds there. I’ve been all over Wisconsin and somehow these one’s in Rochester Minnesota are the best I have ever eaten. I have eaten there 4 times when my work brought me to Rochester and each time I’ve been super impressed with the food and the staff. Rochester is a bit of a food desert downtown, but McGoon’s fills the void so well that I just go there when I’m in the city.

While the next paragraph is still true of our experience, there is an update to the story. The manager contacted us and apologized. They do have free refills. The server was relatively new and just made a mistake. He offered to comp is a meal so that we would have a better and normal experience or refund the over charge for the tea refills. We applaud his efforts in making things right.
Warning! There are no free refills even when tea is ordered with food. Every refill is…$ 2. Ask me how many tea bags I bought? Food was okay. Not the best. Newt’s burgers are much better, cost less, and refills are free! Service wasn’t good. The server didn’t know much about the food. She had eaten about 6 items from the menu. Really!!! She placed a wrong order for one of the people in my party. When questioned about it, the server didn’t know it was available. She argued until she actually brought the menu to the table and my friend showed her that it was available. We won’t be back.

Good bar atmosphere, friendly waiter and good service.
I had fish and chips which was good. My friend had sausage on mash — I don’t recommend that. It was basically hot dogs on standard mashed potatoes.
I would probably come back for a drink of beer.

McGoon’s fulfilled my expectations of having a Guinness draft and fish tacos. Nothing super about the tacos, but paired with the Guinness made them way better !
Dark and not much atmosphere, but you go there to drink and eat C+ food.

I was headed out for the night decided to pop into this neighborhood bar. The menu was really diverse a lot of good items on there the bar itself is clean and fun got the feel of your neighborhood pub. I decided to go with the turkey bacon wrap and it was so good I decided to come back the next night and get it again. You’re looking for a hot fresh food in downtown Rochester for a good price stop by Mcgoons bar.

This was a 2.5 star average experience. Came here for a quick weekday lunch. I had the fish and chips which were decent, not great but not horrible. I had their homemade chips which were ok too. Crunchy but not seasoned well. My friend with me had a similar experience. The atmosphere is pretty much standard pub. The service was good. Probably won’t get out of my way to come here again though.

We went to McGoon’s Friday night (5⁄8) for supper. I was afraid they would be too crowded, but it was a little after 5 so not too busy yet. Our orders were quickly taken. My husband ordered the spinach salad with strawberries and I ordered the cheeseburger with fries. Both dishes arrived within a reasonable time. The food was very good. The server was attentive but not hovering. We would go back!

Stopped in for dinner and drinks and was promptly greeted by Mark and Bricey. The food came out quickly and the wrap I had was delicious. I would highly recommend the Chicken Cordon Blue soup it was amazing. I stopped back the next night for a nightcap and great conversation.

My mom and I were at Mayo today and we had an hour before her next appointment. I found the pub via Unilocal and thought… they have cheese curds which means they will be getting my business. We grabbed a high top and as soon as we sat down we were welcomed by the waitress. Our beers came fast and the waitress took our order immediately (this was great because of the time constraint we were under). The cheese curds were AMAZING and the portion size was great! We even had leftovers! Our food came shortly after and it was super yummy (we each got wraps with onion rings). We didn’t want to walk back out in the snow so Katie (our awesome waitress) directed us to the skyway. She took the time to help us which is a very rare trait to find in people these days. Overall, the food, beer, and atmosphere were great! I will probably be coming back this week while in the area so I can take advantage of their happy hour specials.

We stop at McGoons every time we are at the Mayo Clinic, it is a favorite stop of mine. Great food, atmosphere, and bartenders.
Today I had the wings and my wife had a burger. My wings were large and fresh (they say never frozen)! They were as good of wings as I have ever had. The Blue Cheese dressing is made from scratch and my wife says it is the best she has had in a long time. Great meal!
My wife enjoyed her plain burger, said it was great. A pretty good deal for $ 8.95 with fries.
We both had a Black and Tan, Guinness and Finnegans, which we enjoyed. Could maybe do with a couple more taps on hand. Overall, a great lunch stop and will always enjoy going there.
Parking can be a little tricky. Its either metered or a parking ramp.

Good pub food. Fish and chips fresh. Home made chips yummy. Onion rings crunchy. G & T in a tall glass refreshing. Bartender friendly and knowledgeable. Waitstaff young and helpful. Bloody Mary burger a little skimpy and underdone, but well seasoned.

Serious?! This is not an Irish bar. Regardless of the name, pumped in stereotypical Irish music or the token fish & chips, there is nothing Irish about this place. Let’s get to what is important, the food. The menu is cute and offered as a old time like newspaper. The contents however is everything you’ve seen before. Don’t pump Irish music and only offer fish & chips. Where’s the shepherd’s pie? Or if they really wanted to be authentic, where is the curry chicken? I had the burchetta chicken. It was satisfying and certainly isn’t Irish…
Anyway, get over the not-​really-​an-​Irish-​bar and the place is not bad. The barmaid was great and good for an easy laugh. You won’t go wrong to come here just don’t expect an authentic experience.

Atmosphere is my kind of place! Come as you are pub. Tap beer was good and cold. My hubby even said the Guinness was cold! Bonus! I had the Peanut Butter Bacon Cheese Burger, best I’ve ever had! It’s a must try! Hubby had Fish and Chips and said it was good. Bartender was friendly guy. I’m coming back tomorrow to try the Bloody Mary Burger! Also liked that it was quiet on a Tuesday night and easy to have a conversation. Gem of a find and quaint place with a great pub atmosphere.
