Start this off by stating I came here for the donuts, not the coffee, and not the art. The choices for donuts on the day I visited were an apple fritter and a variety of yeast donuts with different toppings. I bought one of each of the yeast donuts and two fritters, I think I ended up with 6 donuts for about $ 14. The toppings were creative, one was somao (just like my favorite Girl Scout cookie), another was Nutella (i think), and I don’t recall the others. They were OK, not great, not bad, but I was a little disappointed. The fritters were OK as well.
I made the mistake of getting there early (9:00 AM) on a Sunday morning with my 4 yr old daughter and 2 yr old son. The donuts hadn’t arrived yet, they are made offsite, and we had about a 20 minute wait. Next door is a yoga studio that had a session so I was a little worried my little ones might be a distraction so we explored the building. The building is very cool, has an old style crate elevator, creaking old wooden stairs and floors, and a couple intriguing sculptures. This isn’t a great place for kids, lots of open windows on the third floor, lots of stuff little ones want to touch, and lots of stairs. I wasn’t expecting to visit, I just wanted my donuts and wanted to leave.
My expectations were set high based on the other reviews so I was disappointed. I was thinking, or hoping, that the donuts would be similar to the famous donuts of NYC but they fell short. Based on the art gallery, employees, and structure I would come back with my wife for a coffee and donut but I won’t make the trip to grab donuts to go (which probably isn’t the type of business they are looking for anyways).

I was very disappointed when I showed up Sunday around 5pm and they were closed. Their store sign clearly says they close at 8pm. They should at least leave a sign up saying they closed early or something… :(

Decent coffee and really good donuts. The café is hidden on the third floor of the Dutton-​owned Elton building. I did enjoy it, don’t get me wrong. But there is a part of me that is wondering how long the hipster-​gentrification-​coffee craze will last in Rochester. Five years ago, it was food trucks. Not that food trucks have disappeared, but the craze has died down. Maybe in 5 years the pour over coffee/​exposed brick/​unfinished wood craze will too? Glen Edith is just around the corner from Makers, which puts two very similar (although Makers is a little different in that it has the gallery element) coffee shops with very narrow-​niched baked goods (cupcakes vs donuts) in very close proximity to each other. I enjoy that the neighborhood of the arts is blossoming, but its seems like a lot of coffee for one block. The owners at Makers were really awesome and very welcoming. The apple fritters are great. The donut flavors change each Sunday. Worth checking out!

I’m not a fan of donuts. There’s one place in NC that I’ll order them from and that’s about it. A few months ago I heard of the infamous crème brûlée donut at Maker’s and decided to give it a try. OMG IT WAS HEAVENLY. It’s seriously an art form.
The service is also great. Everyone is really friendly and knowledgable about the various donut flavors. I haven’t had their coffee but friends have told me it’s on par.

My boyfriend and I went here a few Sundays ago because I was totally determined to get my hands a donut (other Unilocalers did a great job of taking beautiful donut pictures!). When we got to the place, it was quiet and and it was easy finding parking. We worked out where we were supposed to go (it was a little confusing for us), and went up the stairs. I just wanna say now that the building is super cool and pretty.
Markers is on the top floor, which I was fine with because I was prepared to work a little for one of these donuts.
When my boyfriend and I walked in, we found a cute little space with a handful of people (I think they were employees or something? No one was ordering or drinking coffee or anything). After this, it was all kinda downhill for us.
No one talked to us. A guy took our order, and that was it. There was no mention of donuts anywhere — not on the menu, no displays, nothing. We stood awkwardly at the counter, listening to someone groan about how they couldn’t remember the night before. We got our coffees, thanked the room at large, and left.
The coffee was okay, but that’s not why we came here. Even worse, we were totally put off by how unappreciated we felt as customers. My boyfriend was especially irked by this and has more or less sworn never to come back. I’m still on the fence, but I’m learning towards not.

If you want to off for a while. I recommend this place. I really want to try Donut soo badley. But they were sold out. They serve Donuts on Fridays and Sundays. Make sure to come early to get one otherwise, you gonna be in a race with customers ^_^…

Gotta hand it to Unilocal for pointing me to this super cool new place! It’s located in the 34 Elton Street building that contains a host of other small businesses and artists. Honestly, I feel like this entire building could do with a sign or most salient list of shops: if I hadn’t know the exact address of where I was going, I never would have walked in!
The coffee shop itself is on the top floor. The space is nice and cozy, and doubles as both a café and art gallery. I love the ample amounts of ample light and I gotta hand it to the owners (who designed the place and did a lot of the remodeling) for their flawless taste in how to arrange the space! The menu is modest, but everything is high quality. The coffee from Fuego and the tea from the Tea Witch (the shop is located right downstairs).
It’s a great place to grab a cup of coffee and chat with friends, but don’t come here with the intention of getting work done. The wifi is solid, but there are very few power outlets (just one by the central table, and one hidden in the corner by the tree bench). Also, the tree bench is cool, but not very functional… I don’t think anyone could actually enjoy sitting on it, and it is quiet shaky.
I have not tried their donuts yet, but they look AMAZING. Note — right now, they serve them only on two days of the week (Sunday and Friday I believe).

There are no words to describe this place. It’s purely majestic. To come in and grab coffee to-​go would be blasphemous (guilty as charged). This is the kind of joint that demands you press pause and take in all its glory. From the airy space to the invigorating yet tranquil sunlight pouring in from the tall windows. Would anyone have imagined that a beautiful place as such could be a hip art gallery and coffee shop?
The coffee options will please most java lovers. They have a number of beans from around the world. I recommend the New Guinea pour over — tip a hat to Fuego! They can also make a mean latte and hot chocolate! Teas are also available, including matcha. The only thing I am not sure they always have available are simple syrups for flavored drinks.
And of course there are those darn elusive yummy donuts available only on specific days. I suggest following roc_​donut_​king on Instagram and twitter to keep up to date with the scheduled drops offs and flavors available. Do not go on living and waste another weekend without trying one of these fantastical treats!
The art is truly innovative and thought provoking. Every time I’ve visited there have been different works on display. I am not an art connoisseur, but I can be impressed and unimpressed. I appreciate Makers Gallery & Studio’s approach THISmuch. If I had an afternoon in the city to kill, I wouldn’t mind staying here until they kick me out! You really can become confined to one of their couches and lose yourself in how much there is to see. Easy new favourite spot for a lazy morning or intimate afternoon.

Sunday. It was warm, sunny, and god dammit I had a lot of work to do. I really didn’t want to yet again be condemned to a dark gloomy coffeeshop.
Enter Makers Studio. From the moment I walked in, I knew this would be a place I’d come back to again and again. The open layout and large windows let the sun in, the plants and art made it an ever changing space. There’s wifi and good music, perfect for slogging away on my laptop. And the coffee was spot on. Bonus: I could run a tab and pay up when I leave. So nice.
I just wish I had gotten there early enough for the donuts.

This will certainly be an addition to my weekend plans if they keep up the delicious homemade donuts every Sunday! It is great that they serve fuego coffee, I had an iced coffee and it was to die for. Plus they have those cool big square ice cubes that don’t melt too fast. The space itself is amazing, the fact that they were able to save the doors and have them function is great, plus the elevator makes me happy.

Wow, the crème brule donut is out of this world. I could have polished off a dozen of those things! The coffee is great also, but I am not a fancy coffee drinker. This coffee is perfect for those who have a more refined pallet for coffee. However, my iced Colombian coffee punched enough caffeine to last me a month!
Back to the donuts! They had an apple fritter on display along with a nutella donut also. I should have gotten one of each, i can’t stop thinking about them after tasting the crème brule donut. the flavor was amazing, but what i loved most was the vanilla custard was cold and with the warm sugar crust on top, it added an extra level of goodness!
So, note to self, if you are looking for a nice spot to catch up with friends and feel a little inspired, then this is the place to check out.

Love the concept of getting deliciously made donuts and drinking coffee in a gallery space. They switch the donuts specials, but If you can get their apple fritter, go for it! They also have a great variety of coffee drinks, really well made.
A great way to start a weekend morning.

I stopped in for a Unilocal’s First Taste Event after walking up all the way to the top of the stairs. I ordered the bittersweet hot chocolate, it was okay. I prefer my drinks really sweet. My fiancé ordered a latte, they don’t offer any flavors. Thr latte had a pretty leaf latte art. The crème brûlée donut was life changing! It’s the perfect size, the outside is covered in sugar and blown with a torch. The inside is creamy. I need to try the one with hazelnut filling next time.
The space is cute, there’s art pieces, couches, and tables. You would not know this place existed if you drove by.

Stopped in today during a Unilocal ‘First Taste’ event and had a donut and coffee. I had no idea you could get a beverage and snack here!
Located on the 3^rd floor of the building at 34 Elton St, this is a gallery space and coffee bar. They serve fresh-​made donuts on Fridays and Sundays, and their beverage offerings include espresso, cappuccino, cortado, pour-​overs and tea from the Tea Witch, among other things.
I had a Nutella-​mousse filled donut and cappuccino, which I thought was a great value ($ 7 for coffee and donut). The donut was the perfect size for me, though a bit smaller than the standard jelly or cream-​filled ones you can get at Dunkin or Wegmans. My cappuccino was artfully presented and delicious. In general they have 3 donuts — today’s choices included the one I had, plus an apple fritter and a crème-​brûlée donut, which the owner torched before serving to caramelize the sugary top. I watched the torching process — pretty awesome!
The interior space was also light and airy yet comfortable with a variety of seating amongst the gallery display. I would go back and stay longer!

This is such a cute little spot that just popped up in the loft studio spaces on Elton. Make your way up those little stairs until you get to the top, and just follow your nose! The coffee smells AMAZING.
They did a little Valentine’s Day event with lovers diptych art on display (it will be there until March 14^th). The art was amazing. They had desserts out for the exhibition, and it was poppin’.
The sunlight streaming in was beautiful, the artsy conversations were beautiful, just go for a cup of joe and take in some Rochester!

Very comfortable and laid back vibe. A great place to just hang out all day. They have a rotating selection of pour over varieties. I love their matcha and the care they take to brew it.
Sunday’s they have homemade donuts. This week was crème brûlée — little puff of heaven! Perfect donut, delish custard, and the piece de resistance — sprinkled sugar on top hit with the blow torch! Perfectly crispy.

This place is truly one of a kind! Their coffee is delicious, their donuts are the best I’ve ever had and their gallery space is super spacious!
I would highly recommend this space to anyone looking to book a private party for 50 people or less. It’s a perfect space to host a shower, birthday party or corporate event.

What an amazing space! Tucked on the third floor of 34 Elton Street, the owners have truly created a unique space and experience for its guests. The artwork is always changing and always featuring a local artist. I am not a coffee fan, but their hot chocolate chai was so good! I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a place to relax and spend some time.

I’m loving this new space! Not only is it a beautiful gallery on the top floor of the 34 Elton St., they serve up Fuego coffee and homemade donuts. Although, donuts are only on Sundays… usually a new flavor each week. Crème brûlée was crazy good — blow torched to crisp the sugary glaze on top of the donut and filled with vanilla cream. I’ve also had the cinnamon and sugar — basic fluffy donut, extra sweet covered in sugar — dip it in your pour over coffee. New options each week so keep an eye out on their Instagram to see what flavors are coming.
The space gets a lot of great light. There’s a couch and chairs for lounging, a bigger table for a group to sit, and a few 2-​top tables near the entrance if you want to get work done on your laptop.
It’s a gallery of course so they have rotating shows, kicking off with an opening party and a closing reception. It adds a funky element to vibe of the place and makes for a great backdrop if you were to host an event here.

So happy I finally made it to Makers Studio this past weekend! After seeing many many beautiful photos on Instagram, I was eager to get my art and coffee on. I was not disappointed! The space was beautiful– light and airy, with huge windows and exposed brick. Lots to look at, too. The art was bright and colorful. Eye catching and aesthetically pleasing. A gorgeous space to sit, relax, and chat, and definitely worth walking around to take in all the neat pieces on display.
The coffee was great, too. They brew Fuego coffee, and they do a good job with it. My latte was very good and my boyfriend enjoyed the Guatemalan roast. Best of all, though, was the incredible doughnut they were featuring: a Cinnamon Toast Crunch doughnut served with a cortado glass of milk & cereal. Hands down, best doughnut I have ever eaten in my life. A fluffy, sugary joy.
