Le Petit Poutine

I haven’t been able to catch up with the poutine truck for months, so when I saw it parked near my office last week, I did an immediate U-​turn. Sadly, however (and it pains me to write this), my order just wasn’t good.
The fries were really overcooked, verging on burnt, and the amounts of both gravy and cheese curds seemed skimpy. In the past, the poutine’s been layered, with curds and gravy not only on top of the container, but tucked in between the fries in the middle, but this time they were just on top. So after I ate half the container, I was left with dry, overcooked fries. Such sadness. And the fresh herbs seem to have gone by the wayside, as well.
It seems like the portion size has dwindled, too. Or maybe it’s just like that old Borscht Belt joke: «The food was terrible… and such small portions!»
All in all, I was disappointed with this experience. I’m really hoping it was just an off day, or even an off hour, for LPP. I’ve championed and patronized them for years, even planning outings based on their presence at a certain event or farmer’s market, so I’m definitely not writing them off.

I have been dying to try this place since I learned that it existed. Unfortunately, wherever it pops up, I am not!
However, we decided one Sunday to hit up the Brighton Farmers Market and noticed that Le Petite Poutine was there on Sundays. SCORE.
Now, this isn’t the same as any poutine in Canada that I’ve tried (Mind you, it’s been over a decade since I have been in Canada to have the «real thing») but I can say that this stuff is absolutely delicious. It has fries (cooked in PEANUT OIL! So Delicious!), Gravy, Cheese Curds and more… depending on which one you get!
No matter how busy they are (and they are usually slammin!), everyone has always been fast, courteous and had no problem answering any questions the first time we ordered.
Our tradition once a month now, is to go to the Brighton Farmers Market, snack up on some LPP and go shopping.

Had the Celtic poutine at the Celtic fest tonight. It had Guinness braised corned beef and Guinness gravy. Soooo good. Only came in a large size. My only complaint is I wish the corned beef was layered in the fries instead of just on top. The meat was tender and delish and I wish there was more once I got lower in the container.

I have been meaning to try Le Petit since it’s inception a few years ago and finally had my chance last weekend at the Rolling Thunder Food Truck event! Already a fan of poutine from times spend in Toronto I was very excited to try Le Petit’s version. What’s not to like? The fries are crisp, the gravy flavorful. I just wish my fries and gravy had been hotter to melt the cheese curds a bit but all in all it was a delicious experience. BTW I appreciate they offer a small size portion which was more than enough for my appetite!

I’m not sure how to differentiate what makes up an «authentic» poutine experience from a non-​authentic poutine experience. I’m comparing my experience with Allen Street Poutine Company to Le Petit Poutine and somehow I liked LPP better. I’m not sure if it was the consistency of the gravy or what, but the combination of gravy, fries and cheese curds seemed so much better.
Despite being full from chomping through a Lentil-​Berry Sandwich from Amy’s, I knew I had to get poutine. I came to FTT with two missions: Amy’s and Le Petit. I conquered both. Go Morgan.
Anyway, I was pretty full when I ended up there but I have trouble saying no to a personal mission, so I went for it anyway. I got the traditional poutine (based on Fox’s recommendation) and it was so so sooo good. Oh my god. The fries were super crispy and the cheese curds really stood out as being quite delicious.
What really did it for me was the gravy. That gravy, over those fries. So enchanting. So magical. So… breathtakingly good. Le Petit Poutine really knows how to do it. It’s a simple combination of flavoring and texture.
It’s hard to not compare it to what I experienced at Allen St Poutine Co, but the difference is crucial to me. The fries here are crispier and the gravy is better. I can’t wait for the next Food Truck Tuesday so I can eat it all again. I know I’m not going to try anything outside of the Traditional because it’s just too good, but I would recommend it to anyone who hasn’t given it a go yet.

Punters like Punting. I like Poutine.
Let’s be clear, this place doesn’t serve «authentic Montréal Poutine.» For that, you really need to go to Montréal, and failing that, go to Allen St. Poutine in Buffalo, which is very nearly dead-​on accurate, even moreso than places in Toronto (which apparently they call T Dot).
Collagen girls like Pouting. I like Poutine (and the girls).
However what it does serve is a very delicious and enjoyable take on Poutine. The gravy is delicious, the cheese is good, and the fries are excellent. So all in all, it’s well worth a try, and easily worthy of a 5 star rating. It’s hard to find good Poutine in America, so don’t let the fact that it’s not horribly «autentico eh» as the Mexican Canadians would say, put you off.
Red Seas like Parting. I like Poutine. Just call me Montréal Moses.
There are other types of Poutine here, fancier and more elaborate takes on it, but I don’t really recommend them. Go for it if you want to, but I’d try the regular first, it’s amazing and it’s good to know what you’re comparing the fancier flowerier ones to.
Druggies like Potting. I like Poutine. I get high on Cheese Curds. Can I score a dime bag of Cheese Curds? How about some LSG? Luscious Steaming Gravy.
Plus the owners of this truck, and the employees, are mostly very friendly. And I like the fact that they follow the same schedule each week so you always know where to find them. And that on Tuesdays in the summer they take the show on the road and head for Buffalo’s Larkin Square Food Truck get together, which means there are 2 amazing places to get Poutine in the 716 when these guys are in town.
Concert-​goers who have drank a lot of water, like Portapottying. I like Poutine. Some people like Rise Against concerts. I like Fries Against a backdrop of Cheese Curds, in concert with Gravy.
So all in all, I love Le Petit Poutine, but I promise you, I absolutely promise you, when I Pout it ine, it will be anything but Petit.

I’ve been looking forward to giving Le Petit Poutine a try, ever since I heard about them from the Larkin Food Truck Tuesday roster. They hadn’t been at any of the autumn events, so it wasn’t until now that I finally got my chance!
They do a very nice poutine! I got the bacon poutine, which was quite excellent. The flavor of the gravy, the crispness of the fries, and the freshness of the cheese were all on display. There was a great gravy-​to-​fries ratio as well.
My only complaint is one I have run across with Smoke’s Poutine in Canada as well — I wish they would serve the portions in a shallow box instead of a deep one. It makes it hard to mix everything around to get it all melty and tasty, but it’s possible that this is just a personal preference of mine.
If I could put one of those boots on their truck to keep them from leaving Buffalo when they’re here, though, I would!

Stopped by at the food truck rodeo. Absolutely some of the best French fries ever! They start with their perfect, hand-​cut fries then add some flavorful brown gravy and cheese curds. We also had the added bacon — which really didn’t add much for me and honestly could’ve just left them off. The only thing that I would improve upon is that I think the cheese would be better melted a little more — our cheese wasn’t really melted at all.
Service was very friendly and organized and the line moves fast, so don’t be discouraged when you see how long it can get. They are served in a Chinese takeout style container which works perfect for a food truck type atmosphere.
Definitely stop when you see them!

I finally had the opportunity to try Le Petite Poutine. I was pleasantly surprised just how good fries can be. My father in law said when he tasted them, that is the way to eat french fries.
The first thing you notice is the creamy cheese curds and aroma. The fries are crisp and delicious. The gravy adds just the right amount of saltiness with a hint of thyme. The curds were mild. The bacon I had added, sent these fries into the stratosphere.
My family and I are opening a French fry only brick and mortar location in Greece. I hope my version of Poutine is half this good. Ladies I will praise your work and I hope you have the chance to come try us when we eventually open. Keep up the good work! I will see you soon!
Unfortunately, no pictures… I ate them too fast. My only complaint is I eventually got to the bottom, and did not have anymore.

I have been wanting to try here for quire some time. I love fries, gravy & cheese so how could one go wrong? Adam and I both got this at the last food truck rodeo to finally try.
The line for this place was really long, and I mean like really, really, really long; we waited anyways. We were hoping to try the bacon Poutine but the line was so long that but he time we got to the truck, that was sold out so we both got a small regular. Thankfully, we didn’t have to wait very long to get our food.
The serving size was great and the price is realistic.
The gravy was delicious as was the cheese and I loved the fresh herbs on top however, I did not like the fries at all. They were a little too overcooked and just didn’t taste that great to me. I wound up not finishing mine and giving it to Adam who loved it.
Overall, I probably won’t try it again here. From reading other reviews it seems the truck has a little bit of an issue with cooking the fries properly. The idea is amazing and I have found myself copying the idea for dinner at home. It is a good place but just not for me.

This was my second poutine experience with the petite truck. I reserved my review, I wanted to be sure I wasn’t jumping to any conclusions or being harsh. Both times I was underwhelmed by the limp and over cooked fries. I love crispy over done bits, but these fries were universally dark brown, as if completely made of tato skin. I’ve never been turned on by soggy limp offerings. The gravy was sparse my first visit but perfect my second. Maybe it was because I ordered a large the first go around and a small the second, perhaps they each get the same dollop?
This time I also added a smore dessert. Great idea, golden grahams, chocolate and mallow but yikes. The cereal had lost it’s crunch, the chocolate syrup was not holding hands well with the cereal, the mallow was good. Pretty much a low flavored, messy sog fest.

I grabbed poutine from the LPP truck yesterday after drinks at Lux/​Cheshire and it occured to me that i’ve never written a review. So here we go…
The poutine at Le Petit Poutine food truck is consistently good! Being Canadian, you would think I know something about poutine. However even in Toronto, quality poutine is often overlooked, as fast food places like Burger King and Harvey’s serve up their own version of poutine.
Poutine is a simple dish with 3 main ingredients: fries, cheese curds and gravy. Seemingly simple, but achieving the perfect combination of tastes and textures is difficult. Le Petit Poutine executes this combination well and serves up poutine properly.
Their fries have a nice medium thickness and crispness. The cheese curds are warm with a nice gummy texture. The gravy is light and flavorful without being overly salty. All the components are also portioned out appropriately. The gravy and cheese curds don’t smother the fries and they retain crispness. The addition of herbs (thyme vs. rosemary?) is also a nice touch.
I like LPP’s simple menu and their traditional take on poutine. However, it would be interesting to see them experiment with other versions of poutine, say like a pulled-​pork version or a spicy meat variety. But like the saying goes, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it.

Now that Spring is upon us again, it seemed like the prime time for reviewing this food truck!
Le Petit Poutine screams warm weather to me. Wherever I go in the city on an evening, it always feels like the truck is not that far away — whether it be outside the MAG, in front of Lux, or at the Public Market. You could even probably say it’s become a Rochester staple in only just over a year!
The people who work the truck are ridiculously friendly and the poutine is packed full of delicious gravy (veg or beef-​based), cheese curds, fries, and sweet delicious thyme throughout. When you get the standard size, it’s absolutely perfect for sharing with a friend or date, and it’ll keep you happy all through the night.
I’m definitely not kidding when I say it’s the ultimate late night indulgence that’s bound to bring a smile to anyone’s face!

The legend that I always heard went like this. In the French Canadian war, three Canadians army squads got lost in a blizzard and by shear chance found one another. All the men were starving so food was a priority. One group only had a bunch of gravy left, one only had cheese curds and one only had potatoes. They tossed it all together and bam! Poutine was born!
With potatoes cut into fries right on the truck, fried twice before being sheltered in gravy and cheese curds, Le Petit Poutine DOES IT RIGHT! For $ 6 you get a quart sized Chinese take out container filled with this amazingness. $ 6 may seem steep for fries but for the serving size you get its a decent price!

Read a lot about the poutine from Le Petit Poutine on Unilocal… and I haven’t had poutine since I left the Yukon Territory, so I thought I would give it a try.
She has put a classy spin on a homestyle food. I got the gluten free gravy, minus the cheese. Don’t groan… it was good. The gravy had decent flavor, and the fries were perfectly cooked. The fresh herbs give it that special touch.
It’s like paying for the cheap motel room, and getting the keys to the penthouse. Yum!

POUTINE.
In the great North American way, if you slap gravy and/​or cheese on just about anything, it becomes markedly more delicious than it was prior to being topped. Anyone not from an area bordering Canada is completely confused by the concept of poutine, but really it’s so simple! And delicious.
I traversed into downtown Buffalo to the Food Truck Rodeo from the land of free and ample parking in the northtowns of Buffalo solely for this food truck. A trip to Rochester has long been in the works for me, not only because I have family there, but also because I wanted to visit this truck. Thankfully, they came closer to home to visit me!
The truck is adorbs, the girls working the truck are adorbs. I loved it all. I ordered a large traditional poutine to kind of split with my mom. It was ready to go in a few minutes and was presented sooooooo nicely! Crispy fries, piled high with cheese curds and a little bit of rosemary. Mmmm! It was all piping hot so I waited for it to cool a bit. What I didn’t realize was that the longer I let it cool and the further into the container I got, it all got to be better. More melty gravy cheesy goodness. I loved every bite.
It’s actually a good thing this truck isn’t permanently in Buffalo or I’d have to get poutine from them all the time. I love this concept. I love the simplicity of the offerings. And I am so glad I finally got to indulge. Mmmm!

I was in Rochester for the day on Sunday and decided to stop by the Brighton Market with Bradley and try some Poutine.
I’ve never had poutine before and the thought of the fries, cheese, and gravy didn’t sound too appetizing to me. But I was very wrong.
I loved how it all came together. The gravy and melted cheese was perfect! I had really wish I had gotten my own instead of sharing with Brad.
I loved the container they came in too. At first I thought it was going to be soggy with all the gravy at the bottom, but it never was!
The ladies working the truck were very nice and friendly as well. I will definitely return when I can!
