Goodness Cakes

Stopped by here on lunch to grab something for my sweet tooth. Cute little shop where I was able to grab street parking and there is some parking lot space available also.
Women behind the counter very friendly. Wide variety of things to try. Cookies, cakes, cake slices, cupcakes, mini desserts, tarts and so much more! I wanted to try it all. Their were unique combinations like Boston cream cupcakes and PB&J cupcakes.
Display case shows all that is currently available and a board in the wall behind the counter shows the prices. Some people have said that this place is expensive but I think their prices are very fair.
I ordered the lemon tart which had a delicious flaky crust. The lemon was born tart and sweet at the same time. I wanted to eat the whole thing! I will be back to try more.
Some people say $ 5 min credit card is bad but so worth it because it makes you buy more yummy baked goods! This is a must try bakery!

I have gotten my boyfriend the same birthday cake for 3 years from another bakery. This year I asked if he liked that or if he wanted to change things up. He said he would be up for trying something new. I read reviews on Unilocal,and this place had some great ones. I chose a chocolate and caramel cake. Aesthetically, I was so impressed with the cake! I wish I had taken more pictures. It was perfectly designed, even the writing was perfect. It was moist and amazing, every flavor was perfectly balanced. It was definitely a huge hit at his party. Thank you Goodness Cakes!

Oh, my God! Oh, my God! Oh, my God! This Goodness Cakes cake that I’m eating makes me want to do the M.C. Hammer back and forth across the kitchen. So good, so good. Wish that I knew the name of it. It’s a vanilla cake with vanilla frosting, and sugar sprinkled on the top. There is also a thin layer of what appears to be chocolate in the center of the cake. It is dee-​eee-​lightful!

Yummy, yummy, yummy I’ve got love in my tummy. We all like cake, well, mostly all of us. I discovered Goodness Bakery at a 1^st birthday party of a family friend. It was 3 layers high & each layer was different. One was wedding cake w/​chocolate filling, another was Chocolate w/​chocolate filling & the top was vanilla raspberry w/​white chocolate filling. It was beautifully decorated in pink & grey w/​pretty pink flowers (it is a girl) with nice light frosting… just the right amount. I liked all three layers!
I count this cake as a big success when compared to the grocery store sheet cake for $ 50 or so dollars that fed the same amount (didn’t ask the price but I got the notion it was a good deal). The the family vote was that grocery store cakes that keep getting thinner & thinner & more & more frosting piled on top and not much of s bargain.
I haven’t tried this location but I am bound & determined to in the near future. Hope to see you there.

I have been driving by here everyday after work and I have resisted stopping here but I finally gave in and had to make a stop for a weekend dessert. In the end, I am very happy that I did.
I got 6 mini cupcakes and the price was just over $ 5.00… Thankfully since you have to spend $ 5.00 in order to use your credit card but I wouldn’t have been angry if I had to purchase more in order to use it. I got 4 vanilla cupcakes and 2 peanut butter and jelly cupcakes.
The vanilla cupcake was just a normal cupcake. It was a little dry but still tasted great. The buttercream frosting was delicious and the cupcake to frosting ratio was perfect… This can be a serious issue and they have mastered it. The peanut butter and jelly cupcake was great! It was just a normal vanilla cupcake but was filled with jelly. I wish it had a little more jelly in it but was still good. However, it can’t even touch the peanut butter frosting. It was heavenly!!! I took 1 bite and thought I died. I would go back just for that frosting and I would love it even better on chocolate cupcake.
There is a lot of competition in the area for desserts but this is a great place to stop for something simple and tasty. There are plenty more desserts there to try and I know there will be plenty of other future Friday’s that I need a dessert for after the work week.

After a grueling workout, I needed a reward. On my walk home, I grabbed this amazing raspberry almond tart. It was a nice treat and will be returning to sample more of this baked goodness.

There’s a new treat in town, it’s called «THE BOMB». and boy is it. It’s a butterscotch cookie bar, layered with brownie and more cookie on the top and it is mind blowingly awesome and only available at Goodness Cakes. After sharing with coworkers, we all dream of this amazing treat nightly. The cupcakes are fantastic and ever changing, so you need to make monthly visits to try the taste of the month. I had a birthday cake made here, my favorite flavor of Mochachocolatte and let me tell you, a little extra coffee in the frosting for my caffeine fetish made my birthday even better than normal. These guys love what they do and the proof is in the baked goods (you see what I did there?). Do yourselves a favor and go get a treat!

Got the Peach Melba cake and it was fantastic! I will be returning for any future cake needs! The service was quick, helpful, and friendly.

The costumer service of this place was very poor since the moment I called there. I wanted to stop by for some info for a quinceañera’s cake and she was hostil and cold, I didn’t feel welcome. She suggested to make an appointment for the following week because she was going to have an appointment in 10 minutes (which didn’t show up). I said we just want to check some quick information so we went. Once we got there, she was very unpleasant, she was like in hurry, she wasn’t wiling to help us in any way; she also said they give priority to deliver just to weddings. They don’t deliver to other parties even if they’re big like Quinceañera. Then she keep pushing us to call other cakery to buy or cake there. She said there is just two of them working there. She didn’t score points with us at all to become their costumers. Very disappointed.

Popped in here to see what they offered. Bought a cappuccino brownie to try. It was yummy! Moist with a nice fudgey topping and cappuccino chips. There was no bitterness at all. I will try to remember they are here!

Always impressed! The cakes are great! I’ve been getting their vanilla bean cupcakes for 10+ years and they are the same great taste as 10 years ago!!!

Wow. I have found a new favorite spot. I have driven by here a few times but it was always when I was on my way to somewhere. Yesterday I finally pulled over with my sister to check it out. The owner was at the counter and the selection was overwhelming. She asked if I like baileys and coffee which was a quick yes. She then suggested the Irish crème and the banana mocha mini cupcakes. So we got them plus a brownie and the total was five dollars. I thought she did the math wrong because it was so cheap. FIve minutes later me and the sister shared a mini irish crème cupcake and we just said wow.
So fifteen minutes later we go back to the bakery to get a slice of the Irish cream cake and a slice of the wedding cake. The wedding cake was phenomenal. Also the banana mocha was very good however it does have an acquired taste. I liked the mini cupcakes. The cakes are very decadent and sweet so I cant eat that much of it. The slice of cake will be split by four people tonight.

Goodness Cakes is absolutely amazing if you know what to get, and absolutely disastrous if you don’t. It’s without a doubt one of those bakeries where if you choose correctly, you’ll be on Cloud Nine for weeks, or if you choose incorrectly you’ll be wallowing in a whole lot of regret.
Funnily enough, I ended up experiencing both sides of the spectrum just the other day. Where they shine by far is in their choux pastry and tarts. They are fresh, buttery, seasoned, and just full of flavor. I had one of their peach tartlets and although I paid a whopping $ 5.50 for it, I was so happy with the result that I couldn’t even believe someone made something that amazing in Rochester. This is the quality I would expect out of a bakery in Chicago or NYC — certainly not in a city like this! What a blessing it was to find someone who’s either classically trained in pastry, or just knows what the heck they’re doing with pâte sucrée!
On the flip side and far more regrettably, a slice of their Chocolate Caramel Cake was probably the worst bite of cake I’ve had in my thirty years of life so far. Had I started with the cake, there’s no question that I would’ve asked for a refund. It was overcooked by probably at least 5 — 10 minutes, incredibly dry, and GRITTY. How do you even make a cake that’s gritty?! I can’t even begin to comprehend how it’s even possible. I respect that they made it from scratch and that the appearance was beautiful and professional-​looking, but if «cake» is in your business’s name, then please do them some justice! Sadly you can even tell from their pictures online that this wasn’t just a flub — it’s clearly a regular scenario. They’ve got to get their times (and possibly recipes) right, because this was simply inexcusable.
Three out of five stars only because that peach tartlet was so damn magical, even though their cake was far better in the bin.

We stopped in and purchased a couple of tarts
One was the chocolate banana tart and a maple butter tart
Although rich the maple butter tart had a good flavor but a bit soggy crust
The chocolate banana was horrible
The bananas were hard and not a tiny bit ripe and the crust again was not fresh and slightly soggy as well
Not worth the money or trip
A disappointment for sure :/

Went here on Valentine’s Day to get a treat for my Valentine & I. I saw a picture of a tart posted posted on Facebook, but it looked big — too big for just 2 to share. Well when I got there I saw the tart, and it was actually the perfect size for 2 to share. The picture made it look bigger than it was. It was the black tie tart, and it was delicious! It was very light, and not too sweet. It was perfect! I love that they offer single size pieces of their cakes, and that the tarts were small enough for 2.

Just tried my mothers birthday cake. So I’ll give my pros and cons.
Pros: Not overpowering with sweetness, nice thin layer of frosting, cake was nice and moist, owners seemed nice, they will make custom cakes and the place was very clean and welcoming inside.
Cons: The cake lacked flavor a bit for me. We had a lime cake and lemon frosting and they each tasted of extracts instead of actual lemon and limes.
Overall it was just ok for me. I can’t say it was good enough for me to return.
Update Response to owner: Thank you Bethany for your response. I appreciate it. I understand completely extracts are needed for certain flavors for enhancing. Maybe a little lime zest in cake? Little more lemon juice or some lemon zest in frosting? Was looking for that extra tartiness. I do appreciate the great customer service. For that I have added a star and will have to come check you guys out again. :)

Had a nice white cake with raspberry filling made to order for a friends birthday. It was sweet, delicious, and so nicely made!

Goodness Cakes is tucked away in a nondescript small building on University Ave. It is easy to miss but you do not want to miss out on this bakery.
They sell a variety of pastries — Nutella rice krispie treats, brownies, mini cupcakes, slices of cakes and of course, entire cakes. They always seem to have some cakes on hand so you can pick one up for a last min dessert and no one will know you forgot!
I appreciate their restraint when it comes to frosting. The slices of cake I have tried are not as sweet as other places around town and some have more complex flavours.
They feature a different cake flavour every month. This month’s is pumpkin spice. I tried it last week and really enjoyed the ginger in the buttercream. I also sampled the caramel cake (a little too sweet) and salted caramel (perfect!).
As far as special orders go, the owners/​bakers are open to baking anything you would like. The drawback here is how they do wedding cake tastings. My friend visited them for a cake tasting and got to try a slice of their «wedding» cake (it is a vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream). They didn’t offer any other flavours and told her she could visit every month to try other kinds. That’s not really viable for local brides, let alone my friend who lives in Dallas. I hope they work on a set of cakes they present for tastings like other bakeries around town.
The owners are very affable and offer suggestions if you need help. You may want to bring cash as they prefer to take credit card only if your total is above $ 5 (FYI — slices of cake run $ 4 and the other single serving desserts are about the same).

I think I’ve tried the majority of bakeries in the Rochester area that serve cupcakes over the past 3 years or so… here and there… in search of anything that comes close to the famed Sprinkles chain. Goodness Cakes has above-​average cupcakes, but their real talent is in CAKES. Birthday cakes, anniversary cakes, wedding cakes. Very fresh and moist and creative — certainly the best made-​to-​order cakes I’ve tasted in Rochester. The location — an entrance off of an entrance — is slightly off-​putting and I think they would do more business if they had a larger space with a direct entry off the street… maybe one day they will expand. Check them out of it you need a cake for a special occasion.

Yes, I am a huge fan of Goodness Cakes! I’ve known Nick for many years and was one of his first customers when he & his wife Bethany opened Goodness Cakes. I’m addicted to their Nutella Rice Krispie bars, mini cupcakes and their «Best Wedding Cake Ever». Tons of other fun & caloric items for sale. They do a booming Wedding Cake business and will work with you if you need something unique.
As a small business owner myself, I often pick up a dozen or two of the minis whenever the occasion arrives… as thank you gifts or for new clients. Fun, tasty and delectable.
