Is it just me or is Frozen custard a mid west and East Coast thing? I mean seriously where can you find some creamy, luscious, silky, rich, libidinous(enough adjectives???) Frozen Custard in the San Francisco Bay area… crickets. Abbott’s Frozen Custard has been an institution in New York for over 50 years. Their frozen custard is awesome(it shames it’s sisters frozen yogurt and soft serve Ice cream) it has so much rich smooth texture I drool writing this review. I love the basic vanilla with a flurry of peanut butter cups mixed in… I don’t care if its freezing outside… it still is awesome. Abbott’s is now in SC and Colorado… you lucky B’strds. Please open in San Francisco… I will take the 5 pound weight gain bullet for you guys!

There’s nothing like a creamy, delicious pumpkin custard on a warm fall day in Rochester and Abbott’s is the place to get it. This location is in the newly revitalized Mt Hope area near the hospital. It’s tiny but there are a few seats both indoors and out. You’ll probably want to take it to go anyway so you can check out all the happenings in the college town area. Walking around Rochester with an Abbott’s cone in hand is delightful. It’s way better than watching a movie with faux buttered popcorn. The custard itself is delicious and they do have a list of flavors that are GF.

I am originally from Wisconsin, so I was skeptical when people told me that Abbott’s was that best frozen custard that they had ever had. It is very good! I love all the different types of sundaes and the variety in the daily flavors. I have definitely made many more stops here since my first! I also love the outdoor seating at this particular location.
Abbott’s a childhood favorite, and I really enjoy the texture of their frozen custard, although it’s more reminiscent of soft serve/frozen yogurt for me than traditional custard. This location is great, right on the edge of College Town, and a quick walk from the UR campus. I popped in here today with my friend and her son after tooling around the Lilac Festival. Plenty of parking in the lots(they share one with the salon next door) and on the street. There is seating both inside(some tables and window seats) and tables outside, although only one has an umbrella to shade you from the sun. They didn’t have my friend’s son’s favorite of mint chip, but their chalkboard displayed their offerings for the day(vanilla, chocolate, chocolate almond, strawberry, caramel and blueberry frozen yogurt today). I went with my traditional order of vanilla with rainbow sprinkles. A kiddie size is about ¾ of a cup, and will run you $ 3. The perfect size for me. Abbott’s a Rochester favorite, and the nostalgia makes it so good! The college kid serving was polite and the pace is leisurely. Great spot for soaking up the summer sun!

I love the chocolate almond! The vanilla is pretty good too, but my favorite is their chocolate almond. Texture is in-between frozen yogurt and ice cream. Quick walk from Goler/UofR area, so stop by and grab some to beat this humidity! Friendly service, but can be a bit slow since there was only one person working each time I’ve been there.

I love Abbott’s but it doesn’t really taste like custard to me. Regardless it’s still delicious! They never have my favorite seasonal flavors when I am in town but the last time I stopped in, I had the blueberry frozen yogurt which was really good but didn’t taste or have the consistency like yogurt at all. Vanilla is one of my favorites though, you can never go wrong with vanilla. Abbott’s has been around for years since before I was a small kid — great place to go to when in Rochester!

Anderson’s in Buffalo slightly better b/c it tastes more like a frozen custard. Abbott’s is closer to a ice cream/frozen yogurt texture. Still good though.
