In an area with basically no food options, this place is better than it has to be and I was pleasantly surprised. The place has a lot of potential so hopefully it’ll continue to improve over time. I enjoyed my turkey sub and my co-worker enjoyed her Italian. The dude that made our sandwiches was friendly and talkative(possibly the owner?). It’s perhaps a bit more expensive than Subway but I think the sandwich quality merits a few extra dollars. I hope they continue to improve. I’d suggest that they stock additional snack items — cookies, etc., that they offer to grill the subs, and that they add some alternative drink options to the fountain sodas.

One of the best sandwiches that you can get in the area. I got the Italian Stallion and it is great. The bread is fresh. The ingredients are also. They restaurant itself could use some work. Hopefully they can make enough money to take care of that because the sandwiches are delicious, and I would hate to see them close. They have a bunch of retro arcade games in the back that are a cool way to waste a little bit of time. I know that if I am in downtown Roanoke and want a sandwich this is the place that I will be going.

I pass this place on my way to work every day, and thought I would stop in to grab a sandwich and finally see what it’s all about. It is 2:30 on a Wednesday and I have arrived at the front door to find it locked. The shop is evidently closed, though there is no sign or any explanation of any sort posted on the door. Hours state that closing time is 6:00PM today. If the owners/managers have such little regard for their potential customers who are coming out in the cold to give their restaurant a try, then I would not recommend going through the trouble to eat here.

Here’s the deal — I’m a sub nut. Having a sandwich from any of the chains(Subway, Firehouse, Quiznos et al) is a let down of an experience. A good sub is all about the quality of the ingredients, and to find a place that takes that truly to heart, you need to visit the guys at 501 Campbell. Let’s start with the bread. I’m not sure where they get it, but Kroger hoagie rolls these are not. It’s much more of the crusty yet chewy on the outside, soft and chewy on the inside, nice and yeasty variety. Obviously fresh made, and truly delicious. The ingredients can sometimes be a let down, but my «Italian Stallion» didn’t disappoint whatsoever. Just the right amount of meats and cheese, crisp fresh veggies(read: sliced right in front of me) and and oil and vinegar mix with something extra just tied the whole thing together. And to make a good thing even better, the bread holding everything in is absorbent enough — without getting soggy — that all of this is held together in a wonderfully non-messy package. If you’re after a good sandwich with no pretense of being anything else, visit Fat Guys. These guys know what they’re doing — and it shows.

This place is amazing, great folks that own it and the arcade is pretty cool as well, now for the subs, hands down the best in Roanoke if not the east coast, I’ve been all over the world chasing the lost art of deli subcrafting and let me tell you what, these guys have it right, fresh hard roll bread is the only way a sub should be, hats off to these guys, please stay open forever

This place is legit. They get fresh baked bread daily from On The Rise and use quality fresh cut meats. A good sandwich isn’t terribly complicated, use good bread and good ingredients. These guys do that. So support the local business, get yourself a quality sammich, and try to beat the high score on the Donkey Kong machine.

I’m gnawing on my first order as I type. The freshly prepared food is very good. The bread is terrifically chewy — closer to what you see in more northern environs — and mine was toasted. The prepackaged food(chips) is pretty limited. The atmosphere is sorely, sorely lacking. They’re obviously running on a shoe string budget. To echo the previous review, the sandwich you get here will be far better than a subway joint. Give them a shot.

This place opened up just over a month ago in the spot Speakeasy used to be in. It’s run by two guys who say they aren’t in it to get rich, they just want to offer people great subs at a reasonable price. From what I’m seeing(and tasting), they are really succeeding at that. My wife got a sub there a week ago and loved it. Today I got orders for subs from a couple co-workers, and went on down to do a carry-out order. I got there, placed my order, and they made the subs right in front of me while I waited, and we conversed a little in the interim, which was very cool, I think these guys are the real deal. The sub ingredients are fresh, the sub rolls have a great texture and flavor, and they don’t hold back on loading your sub down, not at all. For $ 1.25 more, you can get chips and a drink added to your sub. The only thing I can think of that I’d say was the least bit lacking was that they only had yellow mustard. I like yellow mustard just fine, but I really prefer spicy brown or horseradish mustard. It’s just a personal thing. A few types of hot sauce for those of us who like it(me, for one) would be great, too. I didn’t ask, but the rolls are so fresh that I’m guessing they probably come from either Breadcraft or On The Rise here in town. This place beats the absolute crap out of Subway, Firehouse, or any of those other chain-type sub shops. The comparison between Fat guys and the rest would be like having a gourmet meal(Fat Guys) versus eating canned dog food(everything else). In fact, of all the sub sandwiches I’ve had at restaurants in Roanoke, or anywhere else, for that matter, the ones they make are the best, hands down. My co-workers and I loved the ones we got, and while I can’t speak for them, I will say that I’ll be coming back, for sure. Their menu is posted as a picture on their Facebook page – they have specific subs on the menu, but you can get them made to your specification, too. There’s plenty of parking on the street, so no problem there. My only caveat would be that they only get a limited number of sub rolls each day, so it’s first come, first served, and when they run out for the day, that’s all she wrote. They are working out how many sub rolls to order so they will have just enough to last through until about 8 pm. Right now, they run out in the early afternoon, so get there early, or call in your order and go pick it up if you want the best subs in town. While you are waiting for your order to be filled, or if you eat in, you can also play some ‘70s video arcade games in the back, which is cool. They have a Facebook page that they update regularly: I’ll definitely be back…
