I’ve wanted to open a dog boarding facility for as long as I can remember. After graduating Salem College in Winston-​Salem NC, I worked in the corporate world for 16 years. Finally, in 1996 I left to «go to the dogs»! Aspen Grove opened in June of 1999 and has filled a need in the Roanoke area for professional dog care. We love our guests and see them as family. I have boarded my greyhound here (and only here) while we are away. I won’t even consider anywhere else. My sweet boy always comes home exhausted from all the play and attention he gets at Aspen Grove. This kennel is clean, well-​staffed, and everyone is excited to see him return. He trots right on in as if HE is the one on vacation, which I love. Easy to make a reservation online and I always get a confirmation within 24 hours. I live in the Hollins area but I find it well worth the drive across town to Aspen Grove. If you treat your dog like a member of the family, then this is the only place to board.

This place of business seems to be a scam. I emailed and left a message for Aspen Grove and was not responded to until three days later — with a response asking for my credit card information. I poliety explained to the owner that I didnt know a cost or even if the dates were free — she proceeded to tell me that it would be better for me to find another place to board my dog! I went through 2 weeks of researching and found this to be the most approved. She would not answer any questions for me — just wanted my credit card — Didnt know asking questions about a business costed money these days!
I am beyond thankful that I saw this behavior from this establishment PRIOR to letting her care for my dogs for an entire week.
This seems to be a scam because all they were worried about is getting the card information. Would not reccomend to anyone. I wouldnt let the owner of this place take care of a stuffed animal.

Our Husky has stayed in several kennels around Roanoke in his seven years, and I’ve been wildly disappointed everywhere except Aspen Grove. Neither he nor our Aussie will ever stay anywhere else. We schedule our trips around availability at Aspen Grove. The folks clearly love our babies and always treat them well. The dogs are always happy to arrive and never need food, water, grooming or mental health care when we pick them up; they just go straight to their beds to sleep. I shudder at the thought of every leaving them anywhere else.

Jackie (our 2 year-​old mutt) loves Aspen Grove. We noticed that he’s usually more worn out from playing with other dogs when he’s at Aspen Grove compared to About Pets Center in Salem. I appreciate the convenience of online reservations and the post card reminder of our reservations. When he comes home after having a luxurious bath at Aspen Grove, Jackie looks like a superstar. Also, it’s nice that we don’t need to pay an extra $ 7 park pass to get him more exercise like About Pets Center.
It is nice to know that your dog is well treated and having a great time when you are away on trips.
