Intermountain Riverton Hospital

RIVERTON, UT: A few choice experiences:
1. They took my daughters blood for a test, stuck her multiple times before getting the vein, then they lost her sample, and charged us anyways. I fought them for about a year before they dropped the bill.
2. I needed a blood draw and they got me in, stuck me with a needle, took my blood, got me out, couldn’t tell me a price, sent me a $ 500 bill in the mail. It’s the American way. BUT-​they did it quickly.
3. They kept my wife waiting three hours for a surgery to begin. A bit nerve-​wracking. No apologies from the doctor or staff for the gross oversight.

My 3 month old got RSV and we had to be admitted. They took excellent care of us. She did really well and they were helpful and attentive. We were only there over night but I’d really recommend them. Their children’s area is highly secured. The view is breathtaking (if you face east). The kids waiting area has cute statues. They kept complimenting on how cute my daughter is (if that doesn’t win you over I don’t know what does).
They also took my concerns seriously. and tried to make me very comfortable. Highly attentive and very helpful. Also their grill fresh breakfast was delicious (very nice after two sleepless nights).

I flew in from out of state in April of 2014 to stay with my mother who’d been admitted to the Riverton Med/​Surg after being seen in their ER several times in one week. Other than one person in the ER who wasn’t very considerate of her situation, we were very impressed with the quality of care she received! Everyone we interacted with was thorough, caring, and considerate in their work — Hospitalist, nurses, aides, techs, and even the housekeeper and staff in the cafeteria! We appreciated theI clear communication with both of us and between staff members (in person and via a large visible chart on the wall of her room). We felt that our concerns were listened to, our questions answered, and that we were included in the decision making process for her care.
We were unexpectedly surprised with the marvelous arrangement they have for a family member to stay in the patient room. I had a small fold-​out bed (for which they brought me bedding and a pillow!) and I was even allowed to shower. These may sound like small things but when you’re in a stressful situation with a loved one those little comforts make a huge difference.
Other hospitals could learn from the patient-​focused approach to hospital care being practiced at Riverton!

I had a very positive experience at this hospital. I was impressed with the attentiveness and willingness to help. I was only in there for a few hours, but I would totally go back if needed. Hospitals can be really difficult to deal with, and this hospital seems to take the difficulty out of it.

Unfortunately, I have been to the ER here one two many times… No one wants to have to go to the ER. However, if you have to go to an ER, make it this one. I love being treated like a person… The times that I have been here, the nurses and hospital staff are always caring and kind. Last time I went there, I was really scared– being newly pregnant and not sure exactly what was wrong. They helped put my mind at ease and made sure everything they did/​gave me was safe for my baby.

I’ve spent a lot of time in hospitals this last year and a half. Last year I was in the ER every weekend, and in many different doctors offices throughout the week. Riverton hospital made my medical crap-​storm somewhat bearable. The ER is never packed, so you get in almost immediately. The nurses are always nice and helpful. They try their best to help you out, and I always get out of here quickly. I was here on Friday getting a long miserable test done, and they were all really nice. The only complaint I have is that they made me wait to get my blood drawn for half an hour. Other than that, I love this hospital.
This section of the review is an update.
I came back recently for my 5^th MRI. I’d had 3 done of my brain previously at different hospitals, but I had to get 2 done of my spine here. They had me take out all of my piercings and metal jewelry, then made me change into a hospital gown. I wasn’t allowed to wear a bra, but a female told me to take it off so I was fine with it. I came out in my hospital uniform and a male was waiting for me. I’m…uh…larger in the chest area, so it was humiliating walking down hospital hallways with my chesticles drooping freely in front of a male! The male nurse had no personality to speak of, and barely talked to me. The first round of the MRI was done on my neck, and he instructed me not to swallow at any time. How does anyone expect someone not to swallow for half an hour!!! I thought I was being sneaky, so I snuck in a swallow or two (Yes, I understand how sexual this sounds). He got on the MRI intercom and informed me that he knew what I was doing, and that it was messing up the images. After resisting the urge to tell him to «suck it», I held an ocean of saliva in my mouth for what felt like FOREVER. An hour later he let me out of the MRI machine, and still didn’t talk to me. It made my whole bra less experience even more awkward!

Update: Monday brought a totally different experience in the surgery recovery ward. Top notch responsiveness and care today! Fantastic weekday staff.
This is a very nice facility and our loved one is receiving good care but I have to say that they cannot process even then simplest of requests right. At a time when people are the most concerned that the person they love may not recover or that it’s the beginning of a long road to recovery a professional care staff should be able to get something as simple as a meal request right. Day 3 and they’ve yet to process a request correctly. Seems the nursing staff has lost the ability to communicate with the patient.

Had it not been for the head nurse at the Riverton hospital I believe my youngest son would not be here. She saved his life. She listened to my concerns better than my Doctor and told me to come in and she would start my delivery on the DL. I am soooo grateful to their nursing staff. I would recommend delivering a baby at this hospital.

Great hospital, even though I’ve only seen he er. The staff seems young but knowledgeable, the hardest part is that the discharge part seems to be super sllllooooowwwwww.

I spent a total of 24 days in Riverton Hospital earlier this year. Let me tell you that the nurses who work in the Surge-​Med department are amazing. I couldn’t have asked to be any better taken care of.
The E.R. is also one of the quickest around. Not only are they fast, but the docs and nurses take a personal interest and care about you as an individual.

It is a brand new facility equipped very well, and with the advantage if having a Primary Children Building as well, so kids and grown ups can come to this Excellent Hospital.

The hospital is very clean and for the most part very quiet. I love the fact that it is also very new. I went here for surgery and it was the quickest recovery I’ve ever had. Some of the nurses are kind of loud though, so watch out — they’ll talk your ears off and you can’t run away because you’re stuck in bed! Not always sure about the ER though… some of the staff is great and totally knows what they’re doing and the rest doesn’t seem to care. It’s hit or miss.
Overall, I think this is a great hospital to go to.
