Ultrastar University Village 10

Great small theater that makes going to the movies affordable. On Sundays it’s $ 5 all day and you can buy the frequent customer popcorn bucket and get refills. They have a rewards plan but never have the rewards cards for new people to sign up for.

I went here for the Thor 2 Dark World première. The theatre is pretty small and old looking. Since UCR holds classes here, the chairs aren’t the best, but its still okay. Food prices are like most theatre prices. I had a pretty good movie experience over all but it does get a little crampy when everyone is walking out

Have the whole theatre to ourselves! Yeah! No ghetto people to deal with (eh-​hem AMC of Ontario Mills) even though I probably did go at an off time where there is not usually many people. We were watching The Conjuring so it made it even more scary:) to have the whole place to ourselves. The concession stand was llike every other rip off concession stand (to be expected). The place looked a little dated, but I loathe those theatres that have every loud ghetto person from the hood in them, so for this you get 4 stars Ultrastar!

$ 5 Sunday is awesome. Movie theater needs some new technology but it is not that bad. It’s cheap :). They play new movies. I have need to other regency theaters and this one so far is better than the other ones. I would go there on summers. $ 10 for two people on Sunday is better than paying $ 26 at regal

Not the best theater in the world. Kind of dated and doesn’t have all the newest technology. I’m not a big fan of that stuff anyways — I just want to see a movie and the screen is bigger than at home so I am happy.
What the theater doesn’t have, it makes up for the fact that it’s the cheapest place I know of to watch current movies ($ 5 sometimes). A plus is also the fact that even with the newest movies, it is never that crowded.

$ 5 to see Iron Man 3, hell yes!
Took my family here for family night to watch Iron Man 3 and it only cost me $ 25 for 5 people. With a little more spending money I was able to buy popcorn and treats for the movie (usually I don’t even bother because they’re always so expensive). The theater was clean and the screen was big and clear. I used to have classes here during my undergrad and the theater was a mess and was dead. The students pretty much left it a mess during the day and ruined it for the moviegoers. I think they changed management since then so the place improved a lot and there was an actual line when my family and I came.
Overall, it was a good experience. Definitely come here on Sundays for all day matinée price for $ 5! The only con about this place is that there’s a lot of immature middle school and high school students that come here that ruins the experience during the movie with their loud, obnoxious, and inappropriate comments.

I’m getting cheap in my old age, and luckily, I have this theater to assist my thriftiness. All day Sunday this theater is $ 5 a ticket, which can’t be beat. Plus it’s never been packed any of the times I’ve been there. This theater generally takes care of all my first run movie needs, otherwise the $ 2 dollar theater in Moreno Valley takes care of the rest.

Worst theater ever! Looked like the dollar theater, asked three times about the movie not starting. After 45 minutes not a person from the theater had come to talk to us… only the people complaining. We’d just eaten so we hadn’t bought food but when we were still waiting for the movie 45 min after start time I asked for a soda and popcorn. The manager, James Burnes, rudely snapped he just got there and acted put off I asked for something. He told the attendant to give me a Dixie cup for soda and employee bag of popcorn. I told her not to bother. We need up getting our money back because we didn’t have a sitter for the extra hour. Seriously a readout didn’t cover the cost of a sitter and we didn’t even get to see a movie. They ruined our night and never said sorry. FYI, it wasn’t even a projector issue at first… They forgot to start it.

This place is my favorite Riverside theater secret!!!
Probably close to a year ago the theater was taken over by new management, and they have (in my opinion) completely turned this place around. My wife and I no longer go to ANY other theaters because we love this one so much!
Is it fancy? No, but if we want fancy we go to Pasadena or LA (Arclight). Is it immaculately clean? No, but it’s a movie theater for heaven’s sakes.
What’s so great about it then, you ask? Let me count the ways…

2) There is NEVER a sold-​out show. In fact, my wife and I have gone to multiple first-​showings here and never had to wait in line more than 15 – 20 minutes for a ticket, and then the theater’s are NEVER FULL!
3) Their concession prices are FANTASTIC (yes, still overpriced, but not HOLY-​CRAP-​WHY-​DO-​I-​NEED-​A-​LOAN-​TO-​PURCHASE-​POPCORN overpriced):
Large Popcorn: $ 6.00 (comes with a free refill… AMAZING for a group to share!)
Sodas: $ 2 – 5 bucks, and you use one of those fancy machines to pick your own (with added flavors) and get ALL THE REFILLS YOU WANT!
4) PLENTY of FREE parking, especially in the evenings.
5) Lots of fun restaurants and food options in the same area. Perfect for grabbing a bite to eat beforehand or a drink afterwards.
6) The bathrooms are downstairs. This is an odd thing to be ‘appreciative’ of, however, my local theater has the restrooms in the lobby up 2 flights of VERY steep stairs, so this is a welcome change to not have to ‘hike’ to the restroom in the middle of a movie when you’ve just really gotta go.
7) The people at the ticket counter and concession stand are kind, courteous and helpful! Infact, the last few times they’ve ASKED me if I had a student ID when I’d forgotten to show it… it’s pretty awesome when the business itself saves you money!
8) They show first-​run/​currently-​released movies. It’s not a discount theater showing movies that came out months ago. This is all the most recent stuff.
9) The sound and video quality are EXCELLENT. And as of the new management take-​over, the quality has only increased!
The only downside (if you can consider it such) is that the armrests don’t lift up… but this probably prevents noisy makeout sessions, so it’s hard to consider it a downside.
Anyways… if this was a theater you’d written off in the past, maybe it’s time to give it another try. Then again, I probably don’t want too many people finding out about this gem, so I can still arrive 3 minutes before a movie starts and still have plenty of time to get in the theater and get a good seat…

$ 6 movies before 4pm. That alone makes this place worth it.
It’s smallish and as expensive snack-​wise as any other theater but before 4 and with the student discount this theater makes it plausible for college students to actually see movies.
And occasionally they have fun events — I have friends that’ve play Halo tournaments in there. Sounds pretty cool to me.

This is no longer owned by Ultrastar Cinemas, I had free tickets but they would not honor them because it is now owned by Regency Theaters, but the problem is they still show on the internet that it is Ultrastar.

About a decade ago, Riverside developers were determined to build one theater screen for every resident in the city. Movie theaters were cropping up everywhere – orange stucco centerpieces for prefab shopping centers. The idea was to attract customers with high-​backed chairs, THX and Dolby Digital sound. For such luxury and opulence, we’d gladly fork over $ 10 a ticket.
And it worked. At least for a year or two.
Cinema Star Luxury Theaters was the major player in Riverside. They built locations from Mission Grove to University Village, featuring arcades, multiple snack bars and personable service. In the early days, theater employees would announce the film title and deliver a brief synopsis of the plot. At UV, they even reserved the smaller screening rooms for art house and independent films.
Sadly, once the initial excitement quieted down, fewer and fewer people trickled into Cinema Star. Theater operators overestimated the number of people willing to shell out $ 50 for «The Bourne Ultimatum» and home theaters made the cinema experience accessible to everyone. Cinema Star canned the art films, sold off its local branches and retreated. After months of vacancy, the UV location became «Ultrastar.»
I just saw «J. Edgar» at Ultrastar tonight and it seems the owners have simply stopped maintaining the facility. The reclining chairs are broken and twisted at strange angles, worn out from daily use by UCR students. The aisles are lined with burned out bulbs nobody bothered to replace. The staff has been reduced to a skeleton crew and the theaters are ¾ empty on a holiday weekend. It’s a bit depressing, to be honest.
With HDTV and Netflix, neighborhood theaters are on the way out. Moviegoers either want a cutting-​edge 3D experience with vibrating seats or a refined art house with red wine and Wim Wenders retrospectives. As much as I enjoy a night at the movies, I am one of these people. Until Ultrastar screens something I find remotely interesting, I’ll take my business elsewhere.

This theater sucks as a classroom, and sucks even more when you pay for a ticket to watch a movie here. So worn down and 75% of the seats don’t have desks.
This is NOT the only theater near UCR. Maybe only one in walking distance, but just 4 – 5 miles away is Harkins Theater which is very nice, and Regency theaters which is a 2 $ theater that plays older movies which is still in much better shape than the UV’s, plus the UV has horrible ventilation.
i hate having class here. the parking assholes power trip to the max too.

Has anyone ever heard of another Ultra Star?! And are you serious with your 4+ stars for this theater?
Alright, I know this is the only theater in the area, and I know I am reviewing this place out of my spoiled background in Westwood Village with at least 4 theaters all within walking distance, but «Eek! Methinks not» may possibly be an understatement even. Let me outline the reasons why:
1. The screen wasn’t centered. I don’t understand how others will pay for a movie ticket and accept this sort of experience.
2. The speakers were off!!! Are you deaf? We got a consensus that audio was mainly coming out of the left front of the theater. Am I being too harsh because I doubt that I am. I think audio, you know, may be somewhat of an important factor when watching a movie in a theater. We told the manager but he didn’t fix it or offer to reimburse us. This is my main reason.
3. We asked if it was crowded inside and the guy said «it’s alright.» We were the only people in the theater.
If you are feeling very lazy and just want to walk somewhere, then go here. You might have a better time pirating the film and watching at home though, in this scenario. Otherwise, I would recommend that you drive to the next nearest theater – possibly Regal – and that’s actually more of a plead than recommendation.

It’s located at University Village, near UCR. This is the only theater that is close to UCR. This place is also used for lectures for UCR. The theater is pretty small and has all the latest movies up. The movie price is pretty pricey but it’s close to UCR, which is a good thing.
One thing I despise about this place is how sometimes the movie would be messed up, such as having the audio turn off for a few seconds while watching the movie or having a real small theater. Compared with Edward’s Cinema and this cinema, it shows a BIG difference.

Located in the University Village, this place is a perfect spot for some cheap entertainment. The place itself isn’t up to standards with the bigger theatre chains, but it holds its own given its location so close to the college.
If you’re in the area or a college student, then this place will suffice for some entertainment, however there isn’t enough here to warrent people going out of their way to watch a movie at this place unless you are considering making it a date night in the Village (dinner, movie, music, etc).

This place is in a dire need of renovation. The only reason I ever go here is because it’s close by. They used to have a good deal on student discount tickets, but they raised the price. I think the first show of the day is $ 5. The screen/​picture quality is crap; the movies I’ve seen are usually fuzzy due to a dirty screen or projector. The theater is dirty. Don’t let the «digital cinema» fool you. Pay the extra few dollars and go to Regal or AMC theaters.

This is a pretty awesome little theater. The place is really nice and kept up. The seats were worn in perfectly and I think that the recliners on most seats were broken, so they were like a bunch of lazy boy’s in a theater… awesome, if you ask me. They put me in theater 1 to watch Julie and Julia. The room was tiny, but plenty of room for me and the 7 other golden girls who saw this horribly boring movie at 10:30 am on a Sunday morning.
God I have no life.
Oh! First showing of the day is $ 5.00. Score!!!
