I had 2 chis:1 died under the care of one veterinarian here-​I mean she literally died in office due to an enlarged heart (she was 9), the other is 13 years old and going strong. The living chihuahua– he is taken care of very well under Dr. Kessler. He recently had 2 teeth removed by her and I was very worried about him due to his age. I actually thought his dental siutation was worse than what it was as his canine teeth appeared infected, but that wasnt the case. He came out strong and back to his normal self and ate the same day. He did not require any of the medication they provided. They even clipped his nails for him no charge. I felt as if Dr. Kessler did very well with the surgery for my boy and I will take him back to her and request for her only. What I really appreciated was the follow up call to check on him. That level of customer service is needed, considering these are our beloved pets/​family members. I really wish my other chihuahua didnt die here, I would have really given them 5 stars. But, I realize these things happen.

I am writing a review after the fact — I lived in Hyattsville for several years and took my three cats to Lynn Animal Hospital, where they were always so competent and professional that I didn’t really think much about it. Then, I moved to Virginia, and it has been a complete nightmare finding a vet, and it has really brought home to me how great Lynn Animal Hospital is.

I highly recommend Lynn Animal Hospital as a veterinarian in the Hyattsville/​College Park, Maryland area. Today I took my dog in for a vaccination. Kevin, an assistant/​technician at Lynn noticed that my dog had incomplete rabies vaccination records, so he called our old veterinarian and was persistent with them to get the medical records sent over right away. He could have taken more time and got back to me over the weekend, but Kevin was insistent with the other veterinarian practice and was able to get me an updated rabies certificate right away.
The practice has three veterinarians, and my dog has been treated by all three in the past 18 months. Their care and attentiveness by the entire staff is much appreciated.

Have been taking my pets here for a long, long time, and Lynns’ is the absolute best place to take your pets for treatments and exams. As reviewer Chuq Y. said, if they opened a people hospital, I’d go there, too! There have been some changes in staff, sad to say the ever-​wonderful Miss Lisa at the front desk is apparently no longer there, but still, everybody is professional, caring, and just plain great.

We took our dog here tonight in an emergency. Everyone was so accommodating, friendly, caring, and wonderful. Rita behind the desk was wonderfully efficient and kind. Even the staff members who weren’t directly working with our dog chatted with us amicably. It was fantastic.
In the exam room, Dr. R and the vet techs were all very gentle, spoke in friendly and calm voices to my dog, and were incredibly knowledgeable. Their tableside manner towards my pup was perfect. Dr. R presented us with several options for treatment/​plans, gave her opinion, and then allowed us to make our own decision on what to do. It was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had in any kind of medical setting.
We’ve been normally going to another vet, but (unless we move out of the area) I think we’re going to switch to Lynn for our regular checkups, etc. They are awesome!

Dr. Rathjens and assistants Gael and Julia are great! They have shown a great deal of caring and expertise in treating my cat with a frustrating problem. Throughout the process Dr. «R» and the staff at Lynn Animal Hospital have gone above and beyond the expected caring for pet. I highly recommend them to anyone without reservation.

This is the most pleasant vet experience I have ever had. My cats as well. They are professional, courteous and very knowledgeable.
One of our cats turns into a ball of swinging nails and teeth when we try to trim his nails. He was calm as a hindu cow when they trimmed them here. Well worth the couple extra dollars to have professionals do it.
They also have some treats for our furry friends and even coffee and tea for the owners/​parents of our pets.
I agree that it does look a little worn inside, but I would rather that they keep the prices stable and continue providing great care than have a fancy shmancy animal hospital.
If these guys opened a people hospital, I would go too! This place is a gem, and should be a model for other vets/​animal hospitals to emulate.

Dr. Mueller and her staff were very helpful during a really hard time I was having with my dog. He was 16 years old and needed to be put down but it took a few weeks to figure out what was wrong with him. The staff was helpful when it came to being flexible with my work schedule and someone was always available to answer my questions. You can tell that the staff really cares about you and your pet.
I have nothing but good things to say about Dr. Mueller. She is a rock star!

Open minded vets and staff so you don’t feel as though you are having to defend yourself and give you honest advice when requested.

I love Lynn Animal Hospital. They are attentive and caring. Our pets receive great care.
The only issue I have is that it feels dilapidated and worn inside. Lynn is expensive– especially compared to WARL close by. For the cost, I feel like the business should have a fresher look and feel. They recently did work on the outside of the building, but the inside is terrible.

This review and rating is for Dr. shmidt. I had taken my cat to Lynn for 2+ years without complaint. When my cat’s eye was injured by a wand toy when I was playing with him (ARGH!), I took my cat in (early Saturday morning). I was totally freaked out, and my husband accompanied me.
Shmidt saw my cat for ten minutes, during which time he lost all credibility and his treatment of my cat fell below the minimum standard of care.
First, after I told him exactly how the injury happened and when, shmidt wildly speculated with no rationale that the eye injury could have happened last night «or from prior injuries, I don’t know.» what? After showing us how to apply antibiotic ointment to the eye, he did not indicate how often to apply it. I had to expressly ask if 3 times a day was enough, and he said yes.
My husband asked if it would be a problem that my cat has been rubbing his eye, and shmidt responded curtly, «well, he’s going to rub his eye after you apply the medicine.» That obviously did not answer the question. Then, shmidt looked at my cat’s teeth and he smiled at me and said roguishly that he was making sure I didn’t knock out any of my cat’s teeth. What? And that was the end of the appt. it cost us $ 80.
I got two other opinions from other vets, one from a recommended pet ER, and both said it was important to monitor the rubbing of the eye. One vet strongly encouraged the use of an Elizabethan collar to prevent rubbing, so we bought one and put it on my cat.
My husband took my cat in again when lynn was open again (after the weekend) to be checked out by another vet at Lynn, and he had a completely different experience with Dr. Miller. Dr. Miller said we could apply the ointment every 3 hours, which is much more than the 3 times per day that shmidt said. Dr. Miller also gave my cat pain medicine, which shmidt had not even indicated was a possibility. She said it was important to monitor the rubbing of the eye in case it looked worse thereafter, which was something shmidt did not even consider. She was interested in my cat’s well being and thorough. We were not charged for this visit.
My cat’s eye is healing wonderfully now, thank god. But I am afraid to speculate how things might have turned out if I had not consulted with 2 other vets and Dr. Miller. Shmidt has absolutely no business treating your pet. He acted with complete apathy for my cat’s well being, and he showed a lack of competence and a lack thoroughness that is well below the minimum standard of care for a professional vet. I caution those who trust Lynn with your pets to ensure that shmidt is not the vet who has been assigned to your next appt.

Great place with lovely support staff. Everyone cares. Even though the location is bit old, it had clean exam rooms and each time we were seen by a different vet. Both were quite competent as was the African American middle aged lady vet tech who helped. Very very experienced for general ailments. For special problems, I still believe that taking our dog to a specialist or emergency room is the best way to have him properly diagnosed and treated. Still this place has never disappointed us. We will return for certain.

Lynn Animal Hospital provided great care for my dog Echo. Although only 20 lbs, Echo had significant fear/​aggression issues and was a biter. The staff at Lynn Animal Hospital always took good care with him during his check-​ups. They also helped us find a behaviorist, which really helped improve Echo’s quality of life (as well as ours!).
When we had to say goodbye to Echo, Dr. Carman took the time to call me and answer all of our questions. On the very difficult day, they were exceedingly kind and made sure that the transition was as painless for Echo as possible. It was heartbreaking to lose my little friend, but I appreciated the sympathy and understanding shown by the staff.
I’m really grateful to the service and compassion that the entire team displayed with us and our Echo. Thank you.

My wife and I started coming to Lynn Animal Hospital after we moved from Baltimore to Greenbelt a few years ago and needed to find a new doctor for our difficult dog — although only 20 pounds, he had a number of fear issues and had a history of biting (mostly us). My wife posted a question to the neighborhood listserv asking for suggestions, and Dr. Kressler responded, saying they were willing to work with dogs with issues like ours. A few of our new neighbors gave positive feedback about Dr. Kressler so we gave her office a shot.
All the staff, from the staff at the front desk to the vet techs to the doctors, are wonderful and seem to really care about the animals they are watching over. After our first visit with our 20 pound terror (it took three of us to safely muzzle him) Dr. Kressler guided us to a behaviorist who helped with a number of our dog’s issues. Although visits to the vet continued to be stressful, Dr. Kressler, Robin and Stephanie made the experience as easy and safe as possible.
After Dr. Kressler left, we’ve worked almost exclusively with Dr. Carman, who I’ve also found to be fantastic. We sadly had to put our dog down last week and Dr. Carman was as kind and gentle as possible, given the circumstances. In the lead up to our decision, he spent nearly an hour on the phone with my wife listening to her and counseling her over the decision. On the day of, he let us stay as long as we needed and took the time to speak with us for several minutes. If we continue to live in this area and we adopt another pet, I can’t imagine taking that pet anywhere else.

Having guinea pigs becomes an interesting phenomenon when searching for a vet. A lot of vets offices don’t take «exotic animals.» However, during our search for the perfect vet in Maryland, Lynn Animal Hospital was the winner.
We just wanted a simple check-​up on our three piggies, and to get the male neutered. We were welcomed with open arms!
The staff at Lynn Animal Hospital are super friendly. They were very caring and sweet with our pets. The doctor we saw — an exotic animal specialist — was extremely informative about guinea pigs and gave us some great tips.
The procedure for neutering our male guinea pig, Linus, was a drop-​off-​in-​morning, pick-​up-​in-​evening kind of deal. Linus was treated well and healed extremely fast thanks to Lynn Animal Hospital.
We are so thankful for their presence in the College Park area and highly recommend them as a great vet’s office!

First, the one bad thing so I can get on to my raves: the wait times are sometimes long.
Dr. Harrison was exactly what we needed when our absolutely beloved Yorkie came down with lymphatic cancer and had to be euthanized. It was unbelievably heart-​wrenching, and Dr. Harrison handled things with the utmost gentleness and love.
Dr. Freed has helped us with our Chihuahua. His explanations are second to none — I always understand what’s happening, and what the implications are for my decisions. He’s so sweet with all of our pets. I’m so glad I switched to this practice even though it’s a big far from me.
Finally, the office staff is kind, warm, and accommodating. I stopped going to another vet’s office simply because the office staff was so snippy with me that I didn’t feel like taking it anymore. This staff is beyond warm. It makes my little furbabies more comfortable.
I’m a loyal fan!

I actually created a Unilocal account just to review this place because I enjoy it so much. I moved to the Hyattsville area in January and shortly after my cat started throwing up on and off for a few days. Most of the time it was food so I thought maybe she was nervous and eating too quickly. When it didn’t stop I immediately took her to the closest place which was Lynn Animal Hospital.
I’m extremely glad I did, everyone was wonderful and extremely helpful with caring for my grumpy old cat. Mind you it was a rough start because she’s not fond of other people, but they were patient and always seemed to have her best interest in mind. There was one person I didn’t care for working there, but even she had my cats best interest in mind. (I haven’t see her there since my original encounter).
Moving on, they examined my cat and went over all the options that it could be and presented me with the choice of running tests to make sure. I agreed and turns out it was early signs of hyperthyroid. Thanks to them I was able to get it treated quickly and effectively. After the treatment they did bloodwork to make sure it wasn’t masking kidney disease. Unfortunately, there were very early signs of it and my cat is currently on a special diet. During this entire process the doctors were very kind and made sure I understood everything going on. If I seemed hesitate at all they would continue explaining to make sure I knew all options available and that I could pick what was right for me at the time. They never once pressured me into any expensive decisions or anything I wasn’t comfortable with. Recently my cat also had a tooth extracted from here with the same wonderful service.
I give props to the doctors and staff, especially Dr. Carman and Gael who have had to deal with my grumpy cat the most. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for high quality care for their pets. I recently moved to Alexandria, but I plan on taking the extra time to drive out here and make sure my cats get the care they deserve.
As for prices, I don’t have anything to compare to since this was my first vet visit in the area. After discussing it with where co-​workers go, it appears to be comparable if not cheaper on certain things.

When I was younger, my parents dogs, Alaska and Binkie, would come here for great service. Binkie was diagnosed with cushioning disease at 5 years old and was given 6 months to live, but the great care of the hospital was able to give him a GREAT 10 more years of his life.
Now I have two children of my own, Nico and Roxie, and Nico has gone there for his teeth removal, neutering and a couple checkups. I can not stress how great Dr. Carmen has been! They really treated him like the little prince he is and even took the time to talk to me right after his surgery to let me know how it went. The staff has always been very kind in all aspects.
I am deeply offended by the inappropriate review left by the client in Brentwood that was implying the staff was prejudice. One of my best friends, who is in the category of people that this client is saying the staff acts rudely to, goes there and receives the SAME great service as well. The comments left by that reviewer were very inappropriate and were very wrong assumptions. I am saddened to see someone take their bad day out on this staff that dedicate so much to helping everyone’s animals.

I don’t think that I can say enough good things about the staff at Lynn Animal Hospital. I have been bringing my dogs there for about a year, and I have had nothing but great experiences with them. They take great care of the animals, their prices are quite reasonable, and – unlike my previous veterinarian’s office – I never feel like they are trying to sell me on unnecessary services or procedures. My dogs have seen all three of the doctors, but I have dealt primarily with Dr. Freed and I think that he is just fantastic. He is very sweet and caring with the animals, and he does a good job of explaining things in a way that the average person can easily follow and understand. I highly recommend this place.

Fantastic first impression. I rarely give 5 star reviews after only one visit to a business but I was very tempted to do so for Lynn Animal Hospital. It’s the fourth vet I’ve been to in the last year. Based on this visit, though, I think I’ve finally found my vet.
Great service from Dr. Freed and the whole staff. Professional without being stuffy. Willing to share information without prattling on. Great, great dog handlers. Very fair pricing.
I took two of my dogs in with small problems. Dr. Freed figured out a treatment plan for those problems and some preventative suggestions for improving their overall health. Along the way, he recommended different types of products but never pushed me to buy any particular thing or to buy it from Lynn.
All in all, I felt like my dogs got great care and I left with a really good impression about the services and philosophy of the business.
