This guy is great. He’s honest and I love supporting a local shop. His prices are fair and he’s great with telling you what’s needed and what can wait.
Dorothy at the front desk is awesome.

Pete gets an A+ for awesome service. Brought my car in and Dorothy up front was more than helpful when discussing my car related troubles. Pete’s is now my go to place when it comes to needing car repairs. Recommend to anyone.

Pete is awesome! I have been here twice, the first time for my emissions test and I passed!
Today Pete was a life saver… first snow fall of the season and my window got stuck open! I park outside and this was a terrible situation! I called Pete and they were getting ready to close, it was almost 12:30 on a Saturday! He said if I could get there in a few minutes he would help! I got there and sure enough Pete got the window back up!!! He is a lifesaver!

I brought my car in for an oil change today and I brought with me my own air and cabin filters to be swapped out. I always do this because it’s cheaper in the end.
I also asked Pete to check my brakes to see how they were looking. I got the bill and it was $ 126!!! Are you f-​ing kidding me? He said my brakes were fine but labor to check them out was $ 47.(a bit of a stretch here) The part that annoys me the most was my oil change was over $ 57 and I did not even get the synthetic oil and I brought my own filters! He charged $ 47 labor for putting my filters in… is that a joke? That’s part of the oil change process and the fact I supplied my own filters there is no reason my oil change should have costed over $ 50! I thought I had an honest mechanic in my neighborhood but I was wrong.

Excellent service, including customer service. The lady taking calls and working the counter was so great. Got me an appointment that day and wasn’t expensive :)

I went here on three separate occasions for minor car repairs and the service was excellent every time. A couple times I had to come back the a few days later and leave my car there for a few days, but overall I felt like the service was reasonably fast. One of the times I came with the stick to keep my hood up stuck keeping my hood partly unlatched. Pete fixed it on the spot and even filled up my washer fluid for free. I would highly recommend this place to anyone in the area in need of a car repair.

Pete’s is very straight forward and honest with their work. The prices are either exactly what you would expect or cheaper. The only downside I have ever had with them is that they will have your car all day. Also Dorothy, the women who work’s the front desk, is the sweetest person in the world. It really helps soften the blow when you have to dish out the money for car repairs.

Pete has been servicing and repairing my 2001 VW Passat with 130K+ miles on it for several years. We’ve had minor repairs through to complete replacement of shocks/springs…that’s Chicago pot holes for you! Great local service, good quality workmanship for a very fair price. You can pay cheaper, but with Pete you know the job will be done right first time.
Dorothy is a blast on reception!

I have been a customer of Pete’s Auto since 1992. Through all the used cars I had these years to my brand new Honda. He has been the only person to service my Honda. He is honest & hard working. I have never felt he would ever steer me wrong with repairs to my cars. I have sent plenty of referrals Pete’s way & they were happy as well. Dorothy is like talking to your long lost friend.

I might have over rated them with the one star. They are the worst. They jack up the prices and the work is terrible. They are a total ripoff. Please find another place to take your car. They tell you that they have done the work and a few days later I had the same problem. Took my car back and Pete comes out with this bangged up part and ask me… have your car been in an accident. I said NO… so who’s part was that he brought out, clearly not mine but he wanted to charge me again for work he and his crew were supposed to have done already. On top of that they charge you by the hour almost the same rate as a dealership… take it to your dealer… they stand behind their work… Pete doesn’t. He took both me and my husband for over $ 6000 for 3 vehicles in 1 year and we had to have most of the work done again somewhere else.

Good, honest, decent people. What else can you say about an auto repair place?
Prices are about what you’d expect; not as expensive as some, higher than others, but service is good and timely.
A busy place some times, but Pete tries to accommodate us where he can.
Two blocks from my house helps too.

They are a BLESSING.
Two weeks ago, my car broke down on Roosevelt and 1^st ave. The radiator just died and blew up. I looked on Unilocal for help and found Pete’s. Called and Dorothy had me towed and in a rental car in an hour! Hello. That is pure AWESOME SAUCE. Dorothy rocks. So Pete worked on my car, got that baby purring and running.
On Feb 26, I took my car in again for a check up because I’m doing a road trip. Pete looked it over thoroughly and let me know what work had to be done. Sure it was a lot, but he gave such excellent service before, I didn’t care. I unknowingly bought a lemon, and Pete never lectured me or talked to me as if I was dumb for dong so. He just got to work and got my car back to me in a day. When the work was done, he took time out to show what he did, explained to me why and educated me.
While I live in the city, I will never replace Pete’s as my goto mechanic. He cares, Dorothy cares and I care about how I am treated as a customer. And they made me feel valued!!! I love them and would give more stars if I could.

Pete is a good guy but it is sort of expensive. I was in immediate need for the brakes to be fixed and hence i went to see him with the reviews.
But if i had some time, I would have saved some $$$$$$$$$

I partially blame myself for my expectations of honesty. My number one reason for choosing this location for repairs were the reviews quoting the honesty. I took my car to this location for 2+ years. My last visit, I inquired about whether or not my car was worth the repairs that needed to be put into it. I was told that my car could be sold for over $ 2K. Imagine my displeasure when I found out the bill was $ 1.6K (after repairs of course). 2 weeks later, my car wouldn’t run. After the multiple tows, I found out that there is an issue with water getting into my car and killing fuse box. The discovery costed me a new battery ($ 200) and I’m not willing to pay the $ 750 for fuse box replacement or the $$$$+ for the discovery of the water leak and fixing that. Now I’m looking to donate or junk my car that I had to purchase a new battery for. The best offer I’ve heard is $ 400, which is less than the labor of my last Pete’s Auto visit. The car that I could have screwed someone and sold for $ 2K is now going to be sold for a negative dollar amount, but luckily I entrusted my mechanic and paid $ 1,600 to get it fixed in the first place. You can roll the dice and hope for better luck, but I’m going to invest in a bike so that I don’t have to borrow against my retirement savings to maintain a car anymore.
I had to add a star for the service. Dorothy is a nice person and provides great service. I also believe that Pete is a good person, but not many people will provide you with an honest answer when it conflicts with business.

We only take our cars to Pete. He is the real deal: an honest, expert. And Dorothy? What can I say except: She CARES.

I went to Pete’s based on the recommendations on Unilocal,and could not agree more. The service was outstanding. They completed the repair of my brakes in one day, and told me both what was most important to be done immediately as well as what could wait until later if I was not ready to spend the money. I will be returning and will recommend to others.

Had fairly extensive work done on our 2006 Ford Explorer recently — new radiator, new steering links, tire repair, etc. We were very impressed with Pete’s. Clear and no pressure explanation of the work before it was started. Then a reasonable price and all work done on time and very professionally after we approved the estimate. Highly recommended. And, as others have said, Dorothy is a gem.

My Toyota dealer was going to charge me $ 2000 to replace the exhaust system in my car even though the problem could be solved with a tiny welding job (which they don’t do), so I called Pete. Before I even told him, he knew I drove a 2003 Corolla (apparently this is a common problem for this ol’ car) and he said that he could solve it for around $ 130. Done and done. I dropped off my car and Dorothy (Pete’s right hand gal) was just so kind… I knew my car was in good hands with her and Pete. A few hours later, we picked up the car – good as new.
Toyota, your «replace-​not-​repair» policy just talked you out of a customer. I am so impressed with Pete that I’m going to trust my little Corolla to him from here on out!

We first came to Pete after reading other reviews here and found his service to be pretty much incredible. Honest, fast, and reasonably priced. And Dorothy is fantastic too.
I’ve never felt pressure to buy or fix anything that really didn’t need it. Pete has done work on our car multiple times, and each time only reinforces what a good business he runs.
Highly recommended.
