Specialties
Plumpton Park Zoo just off I95 at exit 100 has over 200 exotic animals. You can get close to the animals, hand feed the giraffe, see the tigers playing, and much more. The Zoo is in a quite relaxed atmosphere that is family friendly with a picnic area. The Zoo also has both a european brown bear and black bear as well as one of only four Zoo’s in the United States to have Black Backed Jackals. The Zoo was upgraded over the last two years and renovations are on going to make it an even more amazing place.
History
Established in 1986.
The Zoo was opened in 1986 and closed briefly in 2010 when the former owner at 86 years old could no longer keep up with the demands of the Zoo. The Lacovara family, in a real life version of «We Bought A Zoo» took over the zoo. With the help of the surrounding community, countless volunteers and the former owners, the Zoo reopened and is now doing better than ever. A college student even did an award winning documentary on the Zoo that can be seen on YouTube ««Getting There, the Plumpton Park Zoo». Plumpton Park Zoo is the zoo with a heart.
