The Bar Method is a one-​hour, non-​impact, total body workout. It starts with a warm-​up including free-​weight exercises and push-​ups, moves on to intense leg and seat work at the bar, then abdominal work at the bar and on the mats. Every class alternates between exercises that demand intense bursts of energy and deep stretches. This method produces both high caloric burn and firmer muscle mass. It will change your body and soul.

History

Established in 2000.

Burr Leonard, a former journalist, has been practicing and improving on the exercises that now make up The Bar Method exercise system since 1991.

Burr had been an avid Lotte Berk Method student since 1981 and had been teaching since 1991 when she was The Lotte Berk Method’s sole licensee.

In 1991 Burr and Carl Diehl, a lawyer, opened their first exercise studio in Greenwich, Connecticut. In 2000 they founded The Bar Method, Inc. and the next year opened their flagship studio in San Francisco. Since then they have built and franchised over 60 Bar Method studios around the country.
