Rita’s Snips For Pips

Unfortunately a disappointing experience. Not welcoming or warm staff. A 3 minute haircut on my daughter, with no attention to detail. I think I could have cut her hair the same if not better! We will not return.

This was my sons 4^th haircut (1^st at Rita’s) and Rita finally got it right! After reading the reviews I was a little nervous but considering I wasn’t happy with each previous cut (at two different high end salons) I figured I had nothing to lose. My son chose his DVD, stayed still until the very end and his haircut looks awesome! Yes Rita’s is pricy for the length of time but I wouldn’t want him sitting there any longer! She did an amazing job on his hair! We love it and will definitely be back!!!

Overpriced, unfriendly, rude and hair cut not very good. Place doesn’t even greet kids or even flashed a single smile. If they don’t like kids why are they marketing to kids? All young inexperienced staff working there with major attitude problems. Even caught them talking about customers as soon as they walk out the door. In front of customers they are cold and rude and behind customers it’s even worse. I’m appalled. First and last time going there. Can understand why the ratings aren’t very good for this place. Confused how some folks gave them 5 stars but it’s all old reviews and so perhaps the new staff isn’t very good.

We got our 21 month son’s haircut from Owner. The owner did a hurried job and an awful haircut. In total she spent 8 minutes on the haircut. At $ 27 you expect a better service than this. He now has to get another haircut.

I had to write a glowing review for Rita who did my son’s first haircut this weekend. She was AMAZING! He cried hysterically (not their fault) and she managed to work swiftly and beautifully around him. I thought she was like a magician I couldn’t believe my eyes! The transformation was amazing. My son loved the cool cars to sit in and the toys and dvds. Unfortunately the second he saw the scissors he freaked out. Rita tried to calm him but he’s tough and we know that!
I am honestly shocked this place doesn’t get better reviews. We showed her pictures of what we wanted and she explained how she would be able to do a version of that for my son and I was thrilled with the results! You get a cute certificate and lock of hair as a keepsake. Please don’t hesitate to make an appointment here!

My son needed a haircut and was skeptical due to some of the reviews. Walked in on a Tuesday and they fit me right in. They did an amazing job! My son was crying and acting crazy (the usual when getting his haircut) and it didn’t even faze them. They did it quickly and it looked great. I think your best bet is going on a weekday when they are not over booked and they have more time and there are less kids there.

I am so upset to be writing this low rated review as I absolutely love our regular hair stylist there. Today they were swamped and we didn’t have an appt but they squeezed us in, which was great. We ended up having our regular stylist for one of my boys and the owner for my other son (who wasn’t the most hospitable with us). Our regular girl was wonderful, and gave my son another amazing haircut, however, the owner rushed my other sons haircut, did not even ask how I wanted his hair cut, and didn’t listen to me when I tried to tell her what I wanted. She wasn’t warm and fuzzy with my son, who is 18 months, and his hair is butchered and looks terrible. Great that you squeezed us in, but if you are going to rush us and treat us that way, then don’t waste either of our times. Just tell us to come back… I wouldn’t have cared and if the end result would have been a better experience (and cut) then we both would have been happy.

It was only towards the end of my 11 month old’s haircut that I saw the pricing list and gasped. $ 25 for a little boy’s haircut? Are you kidding me?
But guess what? I really didn’t care. My son looked adorable and it was genuinely a good haircut. Yes, it only took 5 min which makes it a lot pricey and you’re paying for the adorable little cars instead of barber chairs and fancy TVs that play Mickey Mouse clubhouse. That’s what it’s about though, right? A cute photo op and no tears from the kids.
Jan was so good with my son and kept shooting her flirtatious smiles towards the end of his haircut. Before she used the hair dryer she asked me if it was ok so she didn’t run the risk of upsetting him.
Will we be back? Ehh… maybe 1x per year? 1x per quarter? The kid’s hair grows fast and it’s hard to justify paying more for his haircuts than my husband’s.
Little tip: they do take reservations. We went on a Tuesday so it didn’t matter but I can see this place easily turning into a cluster on the weekends!

My son got his first hair cut today and it was a success. He was entertained the whole time and very happy. At Ritas each chair had is own tv in which the child can choose what they like. Rita the owner cut his hair, she did a great job and she had an assistant come and blow bubbles for him. Over all great experience!

I took my 18-​month old to Rita’s for her first haircut. Jan, our stylist was amazing. She was patient, gentle and creative and gave her a basic, cute haircut. She’s 18 months, that’s all she needs. There were no tears, a little squirming when her bangs were cut and plenty of giggles. We are new to the area and will definitely be going there again. It’s a super cute salon and my little one loved sitting (and standing) in a yellow taxi-​cab and watching Elmo while getting her first haircut. It’s a bit pricey ($ 27 for girls) but I would still go again.

I think snips for pips is great. I like Ritas no nonsense approach. Its fast and it looks good and its not easy with toddlers.
I would definitely recommend snips for pips.
I also think that parents posting pics of uneven hair on toddlers is dusting. First off who cares secondly it is most likely because they didnt sit still.

TERRIBLE! I have gone there twice before my visit today and have always seen Jan who is wonderful, however, today I had Rita. I did make a last minute appointment but she was beyond rude! She was so rough and kept asking me if I was holding him tight enough so she wouldn’t bang him into anything. He screamed the entire time! She was not interested in his name or anything else she wanted to cut his hair and move on. I will NOT be returning after today’s visit.

UPDATE: no change on how I feel about this place; still LOVE it!
Staff changed slightly: Ricky is no longer here but Garren (owner’s son) is terrific and gives a similar careful-​type cut that we use to love from Ricky.
Jan is there, Jaime and Rita. All terrific. Great hair products for kids, super fun atmosphere, great Ridgewood location. Sunday hours are great. Do make an appointment. Too popular a place to just walk-​in most days.

Horrible! I took my son there a few times. Every time it has been a disappointment. I always hope we will get someone better. I have tried a different person every visit. I had one decent haircut out of the 4 times I was there. The last time I was there was Sunday and when we got the owner I thought this has to be good, she owns this shop and has experience. Boy was I wrong. She seemed rushed and unfocused. And not nice at all. I was looking at my sons hair and she snaps at me «is something wrong?» Not in a nice way. I was scared to even say anything. I didn’t have the chance to really look at his hair until we got home because they were rushing us. While getting his hair cut the receptionist was telling her that her 11 isn’t here yet but 2 other girls are here early. Discussing who’s next when she wasn’t even done with my son! We went again because it was open Sunday but what a waste. I’m going to my hairdresser tomorrow to try to fix this mess.

I was told by another mom in USR to try Snips for Kids. It was excited as the place was cute and I’m new to the area. My daughter was assigned a young male stylist and I explained that I wanted a bob haircut trim for my 6 year old daughter. I commented how it’s a very difficult haircut to get right and he said that it wasn’t for him since he’s good at it. I felt at ease. However, I watched him cut her hair extremely short and not at all what I asked. I kept questioning his technique and he was bothered. I became alarmed when my daughter’s hair was completely chopped off and it looked nothing like what I requested. The stylist called Rita (the owner) to check his work as it was obvious that I was not pleased. She attempted to fix it but made it even shorter. I was horrified! My poor baby girl even commented that she looked like a boy. Rita did not charge me for the haircut but was visibly annoyed that I complained. It will take at least 6 months for my daughter’s hair to grow. Every time I look at it, it angers me. How could they have chopped her hair so short and give her a completely different cut??? I’ll never go there again.

We took our twin boys there for their 1 year old hair cuts.
Riita seemed rushed, was grumpy, didn’t ask for their names, didn’t try to make them feel comfortable, kept yelling at her assistant to do bubbles and the assistant kept ignoring her and the kids cried the entire time. On top of all this the hair cuts were horrible. I don’t know if it is because she isn’t good in general or just doesn’t know how to handle curly hair (the kids’ hair is thick and curly). It really was a bad experience.

I took my 9 month old son for a haircut & Rita did a fantastic job! It’s not easy to cut a squirming child’s hair yet she managed to do it quickly, thoroughly & with a smile. He had previously had a bad haircut that hadn’t fully grown out so I wasn’t sure how she would fix that cut without taking too much off but she did. The staff is friendly, décor is & the energy is very positive.

My now 3.5 year old is notorious for agreeing to get his hair cut until it’s actually his turn and he has to actually do it. At this point he refuses to get it cut. And when we manage to bribe him into getting the cut, it’s always a rush job, because we never know when he’s going to be done with sitting still.
This place managed to get it right. They have DVDs! A selection to choose from! My son actually sat in the shiny red car and watched Thomas and friends and the stylist was able to leisurely cut his hair right.
I recently took my 1 year old son for his first cut. We had no issues! He sat in the police car and played with the steering wheel the entire time! We got a certificate with his first lock of hair cut off. They cut the hair off dry so there was no mold to speak of. We are definitely repeat customers!

We took our son to Rita’s for his first haircut when he was 20 months old and we had Jan. She was lovely — very patient and calm. She gave him a great haircut with lots of TLC.
Our second appt was AWFUL. We had Rita who surprisingly seemed to have no experience cutting children’s hair! She didn’t ask his name and after I told her, she kept calling him by the wrong name anyway! She was incredibly rushed and took no time trying to make it a good experience. My sweet mannered, calm boy was terrified of her and cried the whole time (he was all smiles 6 weeks earlier!). Plus the haircut is BAD. He looks like a marine.
If you can book Jan go for it — if not stay away!

My husband and I took our 7 mnth old baby here for her first cut a few wks ago. The cut was actually done fast which was great for baby. The vibe, however, was sooo lame! The entire staff was boring and seemed to be in a bad mood or just bored! We did get a certificate with childs name, first few snips of hair and date and the cut looks fine. We were just left disappointed with the lack of personalities from every single person, including the owner. I will say however, that they have a tv at every station and cool seats for kids! The MAIN reason why I am disappointed with this place is because I just noticed that the hair (Which was placed in a tiny sealed plastic bag then stapled onto the certificate itself,) has MOLD on it!!! I am glad that I noticed today, two weeks later, otherwise I would have had to throw my baby’s first locks of hair away! I had no idea they placed the hair wet into the bag and it smelled like mild and looked MOLDY!!! Very disappointed and quite disgusting!
