Having been in Rainbow shops ever since I was a kid, shopping with my mom in Queens, I had never imagined that I would ever step in another one ever again as an adult. Yet during a recent visit from my out-of-town tween niece-in-law, the family took a field trip to look for new boots. Rainbow offered a surprisingly compelling fast-fashion selection of ladies’ footwear and apparel at ridiculously good values, leading our tween to be psyched at her big shopping score on a budget that was in line with her modest allowance. Our family passes by this store regularly on our way to Myrtle Avenue, and while I wouldn’t opt for buying my daughter a pair of the acid-washed, ripped jeans in their main display window, I certainly respect the value it offers for local residents. And, some of their wares are actually decent.
